Sacagawea- Rustic & Tranquil Lodge Room at Manitou Lodge

*** NEWLY RENOVATED *** Manitou Lodge's largest non-suite room – a king bed facing a beautiful heat-generating electric fireplace. The bath has a tub/shower combination. Eclectic decor combines handcrafted tables, an oak freezer chest as bureau, salvage-cedar moldings, alder curtain rods and a sleeper couch for a 3rd person (please notify us if you need the sleeper couch made up as a bed). A great space to relax after a hectic week, yesterday’s wedding, or a day outdoors. PETS ARE NOT ALLOWED IN THIS ROOM. 3 guests maximum.

Manitou Lodge is perfectly situated in Forks, Washington. Our accommodations provide guest rooms, cabins and camping on ten acres of coastal rainforest, just 3 miles from Rialto Beach, and 15 minutes west of Forks. Manitou is what a lodge should be – wood, stone, a Great Room with a massive stone fireplace, vaulted ceilings, and furniture you can put your feet up on. Nights in our forest are silent except for the distant rush of the Sol Duc river and occasional interruptions by coyotes and owls.

Originally built in 1970, our Forks WA Lodging is built around a classic lodge structure whose most striking feature is a huge vaulted-ceiling Great Room with a massive stone fireplace. The numerous couches and chairs in this room provide the space to be with others, and, at the same time, to be private.

Step Outside and Experience the Pacific Northwest

Situated on ten acres of coastal rainforest, our Forks WA Lodging is just about as far west as you can get in the lower 48 states. The property’s hemlocks and spruce are still imposing, and there’s a Western Hemlock on the property well over 1000 years old. The grounds include wonderful trails, bits of whimsy and lovely spots to picnic.

Summer is a delight with sunshine and temperatures that rarely rise above 80 F. With winter come the fish. Local rivers (Sol Duc, Bogachiel, Calawah, Hoh) offer world-class salmon and steelhead fishing. We also experience powerful winter storms which shape our coastline. It’s worth a dose of rain and wind in the face to witness one of these, especially when a couch, fire and warm bed are just a couple of minutes away.

SELF CHECK-IN: Any time after 3pm (no early arrivals, please). Find the card with your name on it at the front door and follow check-in instructions inside. With the convenience of self check-in at our Forks Washington accommodations, you can take your time and arrive at your convenience.

There is something for everybody any time of year in the Olympic National Park and Forks Washington. Explore wilderness beaches such as Rialto Beach, hike in the moss-draped beauty of the Hoh rainforest, fish the plentiful rivers of the region, or enjoy sightseeing.  Forks is also the setting for the Twilight Saga, and hosts the Forever Twilight Festival every fall.

We’re located just a 45 minute drive from the Hoh Rainforest and Sol Duc Hot Springs, and about an hour from Cape Flattery (most Northwestern point in the lower 48 states) and the Makah Reservation and Cultural Museum at Neah Bay. Rialto Beach, spectacularly rugged and log-strewn, is just 3 miles away. The Quileute Tribe resides 9 miles away at La Push, as well as First Beach at LaPush and Olympic National Park’s Second and Third Beaches (not to be confused with Beaches 1-3 south of Kalaloch).

Rialto Beach, the only drive-to beach in the immediate area, is a spectacular, driftwood-strewn beach on the north side of the Quileute river about 3 miles from the Manitou Lodge. The surf is generally heavy, the driftwood logs huge, and the sunsets are magnificent. The Rialto crescent extends for about 1.5 miles and ends with two towering sea stacks, tidal pools, and “Hole-in-the-Wall”, a surf-carved tunnel in a headland. The 18 mile hike north from Rialto Beach to Cape Alava is a favorite with backpackers.

First, Second and Third Beaches extend south from the mouth of the Quileute River. These beaches are long, flat crescents popular with photographers due to sea-stacks (a well-known sea-stack complex, the “Quileute Needles”, lies just offshore), tidal pools, and eagles. Access to Second and Third Beaches requires hikes of 0.5 to 1.5 miles, respectively. The headlands at First Beach and Second Beach can’t be passed, but one can backpack south from Third Beach along the coast for about 17 miles to Oil City.

The Hoh Visitor Center is about 30 miles from us, and the Hoh Rainforest is possibly best known attraction in the Olympic National Park. Average annual rainfall in the Hoh Valley is in excess of 150 inches, and has a spectacular effect on the vegetation. Along the “Hall of Mosses” Trail, the moss-draped maples are extravagantly green year round, so much so that somebody has written that the air appears to be jade-colored. The Spruce Trail follows the glacier-carved Hoh river maple and red alder “bottom”. Scenic raft trips are available in summer along the Hoh River, and guides can be contracted throughout the year for fishing and scenic trips.

Other regional activities near Forks Washington include world-class fishing, mountain-biking, hiking in the Olympic mountains and along the wild beaches that comprise the Pacific Coast portion of the Olympic National Park, or a visit to Cape Flattery, the most Northwestern point in the lower 48 states. A boardwalk recently completed by the Makah Nation, on whose lands the Cape sits, has considerably eased the hike. The views of the Straits of Juan de Fuca, Tatoosh Island, and Vancouver Island from the Cape cliffs are inspiring. While visiting the Cape, you won’t want to miss the outstanding Makah Cultural Center and Museum at Neah Bay. These are just a sampling of the possibilities on the West End. For a more comprehensive look, consult some of the links listed below and visit the Forks Chamber of Commerce Five Day Guide to the West End. Twilight fans won’t want to miss a stop in Forks, WA.

Very cozy. Lots of friendly outdoor lodge cats, which is a plus. Room was spectacularly clean. Felt super safe. The hammock chairs outside on the porch need a little cleaning. The outside of the Sacagawea lodge has a little table and chairs that need to be cleaned up a little. I wish more glassware was provided. Or dish soap we could have used. If we come back, it'll be here. Lodge inside was very relaxing. Booos, board games, fire, dining hall with couches. Great mood overall. I'd recommend this to anyone. Just needs a little cleaning around the outside of the building.

Cozy Lodge, great location
The Lodge is lovely and is much cozier than the photos showed. It's so well equipped with games, books, huge fireplace, comfy couches and native blankets to wrap up in if desired, interesting artifacts in a very quiet forest location. Our room, Sacajewa, was very nice, just as the photo's showed. My only suggestion would be to confirm a day ahead that the code to the lodge and room would be left for you and the bedding for the couch if you asked for it and the remote for the fireplace work. The code was sent to us by the manager after we contacted him and bedding delivered later. The manager was very prompt in answering our texts. I do recommend this lodge and the location is great for exploring many beaches and the Hoh Rain Forrest.

A bit hit-or-miss, but overall good
There's a lot to like about this place (we were in the Sacagawea room on the main floor of the lodge). The entry instructions were clear and worked as expected. We had asked for the sofa to be made up into a twin bed, and it was, which was great. It was nice to have a fridge and coffee provided. The beds were comfortable and the linens fresh. The gas fireplace didn't work, and the property manager did offer to come and fix it, but it was late and we were tired, so we told him it wasn't necessary. The shower had black/pink mold growing in the grout, yet the rest of the place was quite clean and comfortable. The morning we were leaving we went to wash up our dishes, but the dish tub under the bathroom sink had mouse poop in it, so we let the property manager know and left our dirty dishes. For the relatively steep nightly rate, we expected everything to be spotless and in good repair, but on the other hand, the property manager was very helpful and friendly, and the parts that really mattered were clean and well cared for. The location is great if you're wanting to head to the Hoh River trail or out to La Push! It's a serviceable place to stay in an area where finding accommodations can be tough, especially during spring and summer. We got in late and left early, so we were only there about 12 hours, and it was perfectly adequate for what we needed, which was a clean bed, a cup of coffee, and a quick shower.

Lovely Stay
We had a lovely one night stay so that we could be closer to the coastal beaches and Hoh Rainforest. Short 10 minute drive to Rialto beach in the morning and then the drive to Hoh Rainforest wasn't bad either! Wish we stayed longer to enjoy the beautiful lobby / lodge!

Cozy cabin in the forest
One of our favourite nights on the Olympic Loop road trip tour. The room was comfortable and just right. The living room of the lodge offered a great chance to play games and drink wine with fellow travelers. We loved it. It was a little more remote than expected but short drive to a corner store and beaches. Ensure you pack your food or have take out.

Quiet & Restful Stay
The lodge is conveniently located near Forks, WA. Forks, the only town in the area, is a 15-minute drive. There is access to groceries, restaurants, and gas stations. Sacagawea is a quiet king bedroom off of the main lodge lounge, which has comfortable seating, a beautiful fireplace, and games. The room has a refrigerator, microwave, radio (no TV), and a comfortable bed. We used it as a base for exploring the beauty of Cape Flattery, Rialto, Second and Third Beaches, and the Hoh Rain Forest in Olympic National Park. We would gladly stay here again.

Great place if it is what you’re looking for
First of all, I plugged in to Vrbo that I wanted a house to myself. Not a room in a house, nor an apartment, nor a lodge with three hotel rooms inside and cabins outside with outhouses. The latter is what explains this property. The large looking “house” you see in the picture is really the public lodge with three rooms inside of it. Surrounded by the lodge are very small cabins with outhouses for bathrooms. Once again, if this is what you’re looking for the place is great. Vrbo really needs to protect its consumers better when customers filter their searches.
