I travel frequently to Guatemala and I always stayed at Barcelo because of value for money but the last trips but especially this last one had terrible service from hotel reception, security and the executive room. I did not get any benefits and got denied a one hour late check out. How can it be a VIP hotel?

Barcelo is a great hotel for an overnight stay in Guatemala City. You don’t have to leave, everything you need is there. The breakfast buffet is amazing. I love the free airport transportation. I’ve stayed there many times and am never disappointed—except that I ALWAYS have trouble with my room key. It never wants to work properly in the elevator, in my room, etc.

The hotel desperately needs to be renovated, a/c didn’t work, hot water didn’t work, bathrooms are moldy and dirty, sinks and faucets rusted, baseboards run down, hotel aisles are dirty, definitely would not stay here again

Barcelo Hotel is too old and outdated, it’s dirty, bathrooms and showers are moldy, the first night our a/c didn’t work so they changed us to another room for the second night and the new rooms hot water didn’t work. It definitely does not live up to the Barcelo name, it’s not well taken care or maintained, I would not stay here again.

We liked our stay even if it was just for a night. The hotel was beautiful and very clean. Our room was spacious and clean as well, we even had a balcony so I was able to hang outside and read a book. We came at about 12am and they had security check our names being on the reservation so I felt very safe staying there. Breakfast was good, not great but the service was very nice. Overall a good stay if you need a quick place to stay in Guatemala City!
