Excellent small hotel, great rooms, comfy beds, exceptional staff. I could smell that my room had been smoked in by previous occupant. When I reported it thet immediately offered for me to switch rooms, which was great, but ideally housekeepubg should have flagged this, and the room should not have been given out again until smell was gone.

The rating I’ve given doesn’t reflect the outstanding staff and the level or service they provided. They were incredibly helpful and couldn’t have done any more. Unfortunately, our stay was let down by factors out of their direct control, but it’s something the hotel itself might want to consider going forward. Our room was perfect for what we needed for one night - we were staying as my partner was having surgery at the Royal Orthopaedic Hospital and were leaving around 6.30am. The lovely lady who checked us in offered me a packed lunch for the next day when we mentioned how early we were checking out, which I thought was a lovely touch. However, we were kept awake until the early hours due to the snoring coming from next door, to the point our room was actually shaking. The lad covering the night desk gave us another room when I went down and explained around 1am, and although it was much quieter, it was incredibly hot, so neither of us slept well at all. There was also a lot of doors banging around 5am which disturbed us again. I appreciate you can’t control guests snoring, but it was that loud, it didn’t actually feel like there was any noise barrier at all between the rooms and corridors and I’ve never stayed in a hotel before where this has been the case. One other thing to note is the bathroom light is on a sensor, so I was actually plunged into darkness twice while taking a shower!

Staff good. Food good but breakfast was in a different room to where we had been told. Most serious concern was safety. The shower in our room (35 I think)had a 10 inch plus drop to the floor as you stepped out. Not easy as I have knee and ankle problems. To fire door at the top of the stairs by room was so close to the top of the stairs it was difficult to open safely when coming up. The only time I felt confident going through it was the day we left and it had been locked open by the cleaners.

Hillscourt Hotel is located in spacious surroundings within a very pleasant leafy area of Birmingham. We were visiting family and this hotel was well situated for that purpose. Staff were very pleasant and helpful. Our room was clean and comfortable. Breakfast was plentiful and we would definitely consider returning to Hillscourt in the future.

Room was ok bed was comfy but light sensor was annoying in the bathroom as when you got up in the night to go to the toilet the light came on could do witn a little night light in there instead. Towels were nice and fluffy and hotel was very quiet apart from the couple in the room next door that were very loud when they returned in the early hours but thats no fault of the hotel. Breakfast was excellent lots of choice buffet style. Hotel is in its own grounds.
