had a lovely stay grounds and gastro pub fab, room was quite tired but clean and the bed was comfortable, view from the window was nice. The breakfast was lovely the only issue we had was flies in the pub on the terrace and even in the room but that was our fault it was such a lovely day we opened the window

The location was easy to get to York town centre. The spa was very disappointing. The spa area had no hot water. The sauna was cold. No notice was given of this issue. Work required to the property. Window latch’s broken and gaps in the windows in our room.

This our second visit to The Parsonage, and we were just as thrilled to stay there this time. It's in a beautiful setting with a well-maintained private, lawned garden to the side and rear. The rooms are of a good size and very clean and well presented. The staff are excellent and nothing is too much trouble. Once again, Elaine proved just how suited she is to hospitality. Cheerful, friendly and very helpful, she is a great ambassador for The Parsonage. The Fat Abbot serves lovely food and is so convenient. A real treat. We've already booked our stay in August 2025. The Parsonage is a great find. We wouldnt want to stay anywhere else. Great value, great service, great venue.

Check In: Waited at the reception desk for 20 minutes before we even saw a staff member. There were multiple other people also waiting. Turns out there was a wedding on and the ONE person working on reception was running around the whole property to check if rooms were ready as house keeping were not communicating back. Everyone's check-in was late, and some wedding guests didn't get into their rooms until 2.30 or later with the wedding due to start at 3pm. The guy himself was trying his best, but had no help or support from anyone else. I think we got to our room almost 90 minutes late. Hotel Room: TV Remote didn't work. Room is outdated and was also dirty. All cups were dirty and most of the room hadn't been wiped down in months. To sleep you have a choice of listening to a constant loud buzzing should you keep your key card inserted, or if you want no lights or anything else to work until morning, you can remove the card and the buzzing stops, but so does everything else. Breakfast: Walk in to a sign that says wait to be seated. To wait and then be shouted by the person on reception to just walk in. Again no staff anywhere. ALL cups dirty once again. Raised this to the staff who mocked my wife for the way she spoke and then came back to say we can't find any clean ones so these will have to do. Check out: Tried charging me again as their system was down so just guessed. They called me later for outstanding charges. But still can't pay as nobody every answers the phone!

Would definitely stay again, room was very nice and very clean. Breakfast excellant if a little pricey. Lovely setting. Evening meal in the adjoining building was good but could have been better. Calamari not great in the starter, Mange Toute raw and the bottle of Shiraz we ordered was poor.

A charming property, sadly lacking investment and maintenance, the rooms are tired, no fridge or double glazing. Definitely not a 4 star hotel. Our rooms was in the roof space three flights of stairs, no elevator or a emergency exit, if there is a fire in stairs well you have had it the windows are too small to get out of, but the fall would kill you anyway, three floors up. Why they allocated a attic room for two OAP’s

Flies galore
Beautiful from outside historic building but our room was dated and full of flies, we had put a towel down at door to stop them coming through we didn’t open windows either,when we checked out the lady said how was your stay the response I got was quite shocking oh will make sure we fly spray it after u leave

Great find and great price but some staff just not interested, especially in the restaurant. Waited ages for my meal. Amateurish students I would guess. Bargain though as basically same price as a student room I was quoted and half the price of the York Premier Inn etc

This could be a super hotel. Unfortunately several issue need to be resolved to attain this standard… firstly deal with the flies, provide air conditioning in public spaces breakfast room and fat Abbott gastric pub. Prevent cleaning staff lolling round chatting in reception areas. Provide more comfortable beds, especially pillows! Lighting out around main building and rubbish flower pots on tables in beautiful period rooms. Fundamentally, stop the gardening staff from waking guests first thing in the morning with their equipment. Two mornings on the trot, not restful for guests! This place needs a good general manager, that would turn it around easily.
