Publié le 5 nov. 2023 sur HomeAwayThe property is what you see well presented very clean plenty of space for family it has everything you need there are plenty of excellent restaurants in and around holmfirth plus pleasant walks right on the doorstep of property our family enjoy our stay at this property and would highly recommend it the host Andrew was very helpful recommending places to eat out thanks Andrew you have a lovely property really enjoyed our stay

Excellent family get together

Family birthday

The balloons and Christmas decorations were a great surprise & the property did not disappoint - it was better than the pictures. An easy booking process followed by a great stay.

Too many rules, unable to relax

I booked a Sax player and Chef and informed Andrew that we would be having a formal black tie & ballgown evening to celebrate my wife's birthday. Andrew told me to cancel both Sax & Chef, no external bookings allowed. The Sax would be too loud and he didn't trust external chefs using his kitchen, however he does run a second company that provides music and chefs....funny that Andrew!!!! The chef Andrew provided had never been to Andrews house and would also not take the booking unless he cooked for 10 people, 2 three course meals went in the bin, and we didn't want pay Andrew for very quite music!!!!
Anyway, the house. Once we had got past the warning signs in every room about extra charges should you put a foot wrong whilst staying in this prison. The house is grubby, each room needed a deep clean, master bedroom's bed is very noisy when moving around in the night. pubes in the bathroom from previous bookings. Kitchen, grill didn't work, plinths under dishwasher fell down every day. Hot tub had a line of scum all the way round. Sky didn't work in the kitchen.
I expect that Andrew will reply to this post defending his property and claiming that we didn't raise these issues whilst staying there, Well Andrew, the reason we didn't , we where trying to enjoy ourselves and our thought process was that if we'd have complained during our visit you would have kept our deposit claiming we hadn't complied with ALL your warning signs (each carry a different fine). Now you are unable to charge us we have left a genuine review. If you want to improve your business and reviews, stop treating people like idiots, I know how to empty a bin, I know how to shower!!!!

I am not in the least surprised at this review as it is clear that you are still annoyed about the fact that you didn’t get your own way with the saxophonist you had booked before checking with me and also the chef who you couldn't provide his own insurance in case of fire or accidental damage to our kitchen! Like most self-catered holiday lets it is a rule that any outside suppliers carry their own insurance and the chef company we provided were fully insured as we have used them before many times so it is my opinion that you were intent on giving my property a bad review even before you stayed there because you were clearly riled about this and I noticed your hostility towards me when I came to check the water for the hot tub on the first morning of your stay
It is also a surprise to me after you met me twice while you were staying there and never once complained about anything apart from you couldn’t fathom out how to work the grill so I assisted with this and your friend told me that you had managed to do it – so not such a big deal really. The signs you are referring to ( 2 signs in total ) are simple guidance notes to assist all of our guests when they stay with us about recycling your rubbish, and to use the water sparingly so it doesn’t run out for the larger groups who stay with us, there is no mention of any fines as such so not sure where you have got this incorrect information from?
The hot tub did not have a scum line around it this simply is not true, as you know I was there every morning to check the water and clean the hot tub generally, the house was fit for purpose and this review as I am sure most of our future guests can see past it as you simply did not want to follow the house rules which were clearly published on VRBO who you booked with. Lovely House but needs some improvement
Publié le 1 août 2021 sur HomeAwayThe house is lovely and the local town is really nice. We had great weather but there is no working air conditioning and the top floor was uncomfortably hot. The master bed is also uncomfortable so we ended up sleeping in the children’s rooms in single beds as these were more comfortable and cooler. The master ensuite is beautifully finished with views outside whilst showering and the garden was lovely to spend time in. Sadly the property is very overlooked from all angles so we received noise complaints in the late afternoon just from having music on which wasn’t loud. The notices, instructions and warnings set all around the house about recycling, noise, walls, carpets, hand washing etc as well as the daily locking up and unlocking of the hot tub left an unfortunate big brother-tone to the holiday which we have not experienced before. Overall the house, garden and area were fabulous but many small things such as broken chairs, lumpy mattresses, poor cooking equipment etc left us feeling like we had been considerably overcharged for our stay. Some small improvements and fewer warning notices could go a long way here.

Thanks for this review but i feel some of the points you have raised here are very misleading and inaccurate and i would like to respond as follows :-
we do not advertise that the house has air conditioning as indeed it doesn't so i cant understand why you have brought this up in your review, the weather was very hot everywhere in the UK the week you stayed so nothing we can do about that , most holiday properties and indeed homes in the UK have no need for air conditioning as it isn't often we get a heatwave
There are no broken chairs to my knowledge and you didn't bring this to my attention at all while you were staying there or any issues with the bed, we have had no complaints from anyone else about this before and after your stay. There also is ample cooking equipment too much for a normal house in fact and we often get comments that the house is overstocked with too many items and again, we haven't ever received a complaint about this aspect of the property.
The main bone of contention though with this review is where you say the house is looked on from all angles, this is simply not true, the house stands proudly in its own large grounds and private garden , yes there are neighbours but they dont look on to the property or the garden at all as the property is surrounded by trees and hedges giving 100 % privacy as you well know and enjoyed while you were staying there, the fact you had loud music on outside when other people were wanting to enjoy the sun too was the real issue i think here, it was no big deal at the time i only asked you to lower it slightly just out of respect for others but it seems this has prompted your negative review i feel
you also booked through an agency so you did pay commission fees on top but for the time of the year and your large group size i feel you still got value for money
any of the issues you have now raise here could've been dealt with ( apart from the air con) while you were at the property and you saw me e everyday attending to the hot tub but you never mentioned anything whatsoever to me.

Great holiday home let down by safety measures and poor cleaning.
Publié le 18 mai 2021 sur HomeAwayWhilst we appreciate the home owner letting us stay for additional hours due to weather on our final day, we faced a number of issues.
First of all the house is beautiful and the views are amazing. The location also seems great (unfortunately we couldn't get out much) but we faced these issues below. Images of proof provided below.
- the dishes were not all cleaned. We had to re-wash everything we used. You can see one of the mugs we were faced. Mugs and cutlery were the biggest issues. I would have assumed with the covid related restrictions, the cleaners would have had to do check the cleaness of the property.
- the room upstairs with the great review was a lovely room but the bed was awful and creaks. Weve seen previous reviews where this has been mentioned but it really disturbed any sleep we tried to get and for anyone sleeping on the floor below.
- the bed sheets might have been washed but not checked by the cleaners as we saw hairs all over fitted sheets. Also we found small pieces of a game (we assume from previous stayers) still within the sheets. We had small kids and we had a 2 year old pick this up. Luckily we noticed straight away but she could have put this in her mouth. This clearly showed that checks were not done by cleaners between the bookings.
- when speaking to the home owners and checking the listing we read that it says the garden is gated and safe for dogs. We have a medium and a large dog and we couldn't have them in the garden without someone being there as well due to so many gaps and the dogs being able to escape and jump the medium size fences.
- we were charged £30 for the hot tub towels after our stay, even tho the laminated price list showed the charge as £25. We asked the owner about the additional £5 charge and we were replied to with the following:
"I would need to check but I thought it was £30 we charge but are we really going to argue over £5 after I let you all stay until after 3pm which for a later check out I normally charge £50 up to 12 noon and you stayed 3 hours longer than this !"
We found this reply very rude and cheeky. Whilst we appreciated the few additional hours on the final day we never asked for this. The home owner offered us the additional hours due to no other booking the following day. We never heard back about the additional charge. Yes it is only £5, but if every customer is being charged extra it needs explaining.

The on;y reason you have posted this review is because there was a misunderstanding over the £5 extra that was charged for the hot tub towels you used . All of the things you have listed here were not true and were not reported to me during your stay, in fact you were full of praise for the house and were very happy with everything as you well know.
you are very lucky that i didn't deduct anything from your bond owing to the mess you left the house in , food and rubbish left all over the floor even on the middle floor hallway , the cleaners were disgusted at the way you left the house and i would certainly not welcome you back at any point in the future.
i let you stay until 4 pm the day of check out so you virtually had a full day there for free and i did this as a kind gesture yet you post this inaccurate and misleading review over a £5 charge which may have been a genuine mistake - how sad
i hope potential future guests can see past this review as we do make sure the house is completely clean and covid safe, we go to great lengths to ensure the house is sanitised as we have qualified for the good to go certification which we had to undergo rigorous checks by visit England
the bed he is alleging that creaks is simply a myth, it is a king-size solid wooden bed which is very sturdy and there isn't a bedroom underneath it anyway on the floor below it is the main lounge so again this person is just trying to paint a bad image of the house for his own reasons and he didn't mention anything to me yet he saw me everyday when i went to attend to the hot tub every morning

Amazing house! Perfect for our hen weekend.
Publié le 22 févr. 2018 sur HomeAwayWe were a group of 20 celebrating a hen party. Every single person in our group loved the house. And I mean LOVED IT!!!!!!! It is very clean and has loads of space. The views from the top floor, looking out into the valley, are top notch and the top floor bathroom will blow your mind! Faye and Andrew (owners) were easy to communicate with.
There was plenty of space to store everything even with that many of us. The kitchen-dining area is fantastic and that's where we spent most of our time. There is a huge dining room table that made it easy to cater for everyone. The kitchen is incredibly well stocked.
The surrounding area is lovely. We went into Holmfirth for a pub lunch (10 min walk) and then went for a local 4 mile walk (instructions in the welcome book).
I would recommend this house for groups / families.
