Clean room, incompetent staff, moth ball smell
Publié le 12 févr. 2017 sur Hotels+Good location +Taxi drivers all know it +OK for short stay-over +Clean +Recently remodeled -Every room smells strongly of moth balls -Did not have my booking any of the 3 times I stayed there, no problem after showing them my Hotels.com print-out of confirmation number and room type, but they had NOTHING before I came -Front Desk person very helpful, well groomed, friendly, but poor English -Breakfast buffet decent, but all Asian and ran out of food for last hour of breakfast hours, did not replenish buffet -Near end of breakfast hours, two staff began smoking cigarettes in dining area before I left, not pleasant -Seemingly other ancillary staff hanging around in the small lobby gave me an uneasy feeling as they were extremely poorly dressed and groomed while smoking cigarettes and talking loudly on their cell phones -They were dressed as follows: -dirt stained clothes, -unbuttoned sport shirt with dirty white undershirt showing, -extremely desheveled and dirty hair, -most people on the street looked better... (I don't know who they were, perhaps men who had been laboring on the building somehow?) After my 1st and 2nd stay (about a week apart), I was ready to give very high rating in spite of the moth ball smell, but after the restaurant and lobby experience of my 3rd visit, I don't know that I want to stay there again. This hotel has GREAT potential if the staff were just more conscious about their appearance & smoking and more on top of their breakfast buffet.

Comfortable near downtown mandalay
Publié le 7 mars 2016 sur HotelsThe hotel is well maintained, a good deal for Mandalay where most hotels are overpriced. As a personal trainer, I was able to get something done in the gym, but it really is weak especially for someone who doesn't know what they're doing. The smith machine and a few Dumbbells were the only useful parts.

Next beat thing to finding starbucks
Publié le 19 févr. 2016 sur HotelsIn Myanmar, drip coffee we are used to in US is hard to find. I was prepared to use powder instant brought from home but for breakfast, I was pleasantly surprised with drip coffee we can serve ourselves! I drank half the pot. I am in Bagan now and have not been able to find drip coffee at 20-30 dollar range hotels. Buffet style, good selection.
Staff very friendly. No one expected tips. I found locals very outgoing and willing to help. Limited English so prepared with written phrases or map. a good shower in a clean safe place to sleep.
First, let me save you some research time. The Mandalay airport is all by itself away from all the hotels in city center. So only way to get to twon to see the temples etc is by taking a taxi or free shuttle provided by Asia air. (We arrived Feb 13 2016). I know we are supposed to bargain, but I believe the taxi fares are pretty set. 12,000 kyat (less than $12) for one way to any hotel in city centre private taxi for 2 people air-conditioned. You pay less if traveling by yourself like $4-8 pp shared shuttle.
