Mountaineer Motel, Mt. Storm, WV
Publié le 25 janv. 2021 sur HomeAwaySubstandard accomodations which violated several promised and customary parameters:
--Run down, unmaintained room. Filthy carpet, chipping paint, broken panels and tiles. Sloppy bedding without a top sheet on one of the beds. A single dim overheat light with no lamps. No closet or place to hang clothes. No shampoo included.
--Poor security. Deadbolt was nonfunctional, leaving only the doorknob lock as a barrier.
--TV did not work.
--Room temperature cold, 60F at best. No way to adjust heat. Small space heater was extremely noisy and minimally useful.
--Insufficient hot water. The water ran ice cold before I even started to shower.
--Inconvenient check in. No one present in front office at 6:30 PM. Had to use outdoor telephone to call management to arrange entry. The room was left completely unlocked prior to my arrival.
--False advertising about location. The Whitegrass web page indicated that the Mountaineer Motel is within 5 miles of the Whitegrass ski center, when in fact is is some 30 miles away.
This accomodation was so poor and in such flagrant violation of what was advertised that common standards of business integrity should lead to a total refund.

I'm sorry that Mr. Burns did not have the experience he expected. Some of the points he made reflect that the motel was built in 1950, and is offered at a price well below anything within 50 miles. While it is an older motel, everything is clean and everything works.
We do maintain the rooms continually, and have special carpet cleaning equipment. There is a closet in the room, and the hot water heater is a tankless model that cannot run out of hot water; the water does need to run for a minute to reach full temperature.
To protect both our guests and our staff, we practice "contactless check-in"; our guests check in by phone, and are usually in their rooms in less than two minutes.
We did check the TV, and it was working properly. Had Mr. Burns called our front desk, we would have helped him figure out how to use the TV; we are regularly staffed from 8 am until 1 am, and we have staff to handle urgent matters that can be reached 24/7.
We also checked the locking hardware on the door, and it was working properly.
The Whitegrass ski area is about 40 minutes away, and that is what we have always told guests. I just checked the Whitegrass website, and we are listed as being 20+ miles away, which is accurate. I have no idea what led Mr. Burns to think we were closer.

This is a pretty bare-bones motel, but was exactly what I needed. Don't look for any ritz or glamour, but I'll definitely stay here again.

The hotel was not what we expected
Publié le 27 juill. 2020 sur HomeAwayWe did not stay because it was not what we expected. The room smelt like mud and the room was not clean. We did not spend the night there. The Hotel manager made sure to talk to the booking company and notify them we didn’t stay there.

The shower curtain had mold and the doors are not locked after cleaned. Also no inside latch on door.
