Lovely Peaceful Get-Away!

Posted Aug. 18, 2022 on HomeAway
Beautiful Breezy little cottage right on the Tidal Basin and a 13 minute walk to the ocean side beach. Wonderful quiet little neighborhood with friendly neighbors and everything you need at the rental, including two lovely porches to relax on. Great place.

Great little spot with proximity to all that Plum Island and Newburyport has to offer!

Great, clean little spot close by to both the ocean front and basin. We used as a secondary accommodation for a large, family vacation and it was the perfect, clean, quiet getaway!

Great week

Our 3 young children and two dogs stayed here mid-August, just in time for beaches to open in the refuge. Both Mike and his wife were attentive and helpful when questions arose. We appreciated that the owners were nearby but not intrusive. This cottage is quite an affordable find and we would recommend it with no hesitation.

My mini-vaca on Plum Island (Massachusetts)

Just what we expected. Manager a great guy. Unfortunately, the weather was good but chilly at the ocean. Many things to do nearby.

Cozy little cottage

I love Plum Island! With that said where I stay is an after thought. The beaches are amazing and you can find a different type of beach everyday if you want. Newburyport is beautiful. Lots of great places to eat all kinds of food. Fun little shops. 3 Ivy lane is a cute little cottage. I stayed there with 1 adult, 4 teenagers and 1 dog (lab). The house is really not big enough for that many people. But it was clean, the owner was very responsive.

We enjoyed the beach!

My family loved staying at this cozy cottage. While the cottage may look small on the outside, it feels spacious inside. There was adequate room for four (2 teenage girls, 2 adults) with a well-appointed roomy kitchen, living room/dining area, and 2 small bedrooms (although the bathroom is challengingly tiny.) We enjoyed using the central fireplace on chilly nights. The site of the cottage is ideal, a stones throw from the bay, a quick walk to the ocean, and we could view the sun setting over picturesque bogs from the deck each night. Suggested improvements: curtains in the dining area, better mattress in the main bedroom, a dresser in the 2nd bedroom, and a pull-out couch would be appreciated. Otherwise, we fell in love with this charmingly casual Plum Island cottage. The area around the island offers plenty of cultural, historical and natural wonders to explore-- we barely scratched the surface of all there was to do. It was a perfect get-away-from-it-all retreat, we're looking forward to returning next year.

could use major improvements

Prior to stay, asked if they had a lobster pot, etc kitchen and upon arrival no there was no lobster pot...only 3 coffee filters..so my husband had to rinse out them to last a week. 11 There was no tea kettle and the glass ware was dirty. The biggest no no was the front deck was in the sun 11 hours a day and had no umbrella???I also asked if there was a grill..they said yes...it was a 14 inch charcoal grill...and there was no charcoal supp[lied....A hundred dollars could buy an inexpensive gas grill????The furnishings were worse than yard sale bargains...throw them out or repurpose with paint??? All of the sheets and curtains were mismatched?? You would think my husband and I could have had a nice sheet set with matching pillow cases and sheets??? The private beach was less than ideal...it worked for the dog but we wouldn't swim in it...marshy....I could go on...but I think the message is clear...For the price you are charging, I expected much more.

Prior to stay, asked if they had a lobster pot, etc kitchen and upon arrival no there was no lobster pot Actually, there is a lobster pot in the kitchen, I'm close by as you know and would have been happy to come over and locate it for you, and I know you knew how to contact us - I wish you had. ...only 3 coffee filters..so my husband had to rinse out them to last a week. With a convince store withing waling distance, you preferred to wash out the existing coffee filters? There was no tea kettle and the glass ware was dirty. We will get a tea pot, thank you. An occasional dirty glass on the other hand is hard to prevent. When we rent, we tell our kids to just rinse it out. If they keep complaining they lose their desert. The biggest no no was the front deck was in the sun 11 hours a day and had no umbrella??? Too much sun at the beach? This is a first, but we'll see what we can do. All of the sheets and curtains were mismatched?? You would think my husband and I could have had a nice sheet set with matching pillow cases and sheets??? My wife pleads mea culpa on this one. She tried to be a little creative with complementary rather than strictly matching sheets. We are sorry it created such distress. The furnishings were worse than yard sale bargains...throw them out or repurpose with paint. Again first complaint in this area. Some think it would be tasteless to add all new furniture to a quaint old cottage - however the purchase order for the sleeper got mixed up, and there will be one there next year. I also asked if there was a grill..they said yes...it was a 14 inch charcoal grill...and there was no charcoal supplied. A hundred dollars could buy an inexpensive gas grill. This is a valid point, and it really is more about liability than cost savings (he thinks to himself: renters like this make me think they will blow the place up, then sue for the resulting stress). Nevertheless I think we will chance it and get one for next year. The private beach was less than ideal...it worked for the dog but we wouldn't swim in it...marshy.... Our kids, neighbors and their kids use the beach all the time, as you can see from the pics. However we are glad that your dog had no complaints. One suggestion for our kind renter: if you have a dog that barks 24-7, you might try leaving him/her at home with a friend or maybe a kennel. We had a number of complaints.
