Greetings. This review was expected. I will try to cover all the points made. Please keep in mind that this review is, in part, a retaliation for my refusal to refund the reservation charges on a "no refund" reservation for which the guests received a discount. First, the facts as I know them: The guest's original date of arrival was postponed by one day due to an airline weather problem. That was fine and we had no problem with the delayed arrival. However, due to a family need, my wife and I had to be in San Jose and we were delayed in returning until the day following the guests arrival. The guests were met by one of our people when they arrived. The remainder of the facts are as I can deduce them from what was told to me by our employee, or as claimed by the guest. The power on our street had gone out prior to the guests arrival via airport shuttle. Our reception explained the problem and the electricity was restored within 1.5 hours of the guests' arrival. But that was at least one-half hour after the guests left us, never to return, to find another place to stay. Perhaps they should have come back to look and see if things were more to their liking after we had power and they could have a good night's sleep. We do not have power generation facilities at our hotel. It is hot and humid in Coastal Costa Rica, particularly this time of the year (October). The guest mentioned the lack of a generator for power and complained of the heat and humidity, so I agree with her. But I question: why come to Costa Rica in the wettest season with the most humidity then complain about it?In the meantime, the guests were shown to their room, a poolside suite. Our employee told me that the guests found a dead ant on a pillow. Our employee reported no other bugs, but I do not doubt there were ants on the exterior of the room as reported by the guest. Daily hard rains wash away and defeat products used to kill or dissuade ants and some other bugs from being near the hotel facilities. I regret that but I also know the reality of living here after 11 years experience. Bugs walk and fly and they exist in Costa Rica in abundance. Biodiversity, yay.The guests were shown a second room in which they found a small spider. I did not see it. That is what was reported to me. The guest speaks in terms of plural "bugs". Our employee told me what he saw was minor and not what he considered a problem (for him), but the guest did not like it. I understand that. But I think context is important, too. I think that context is found in the fact that the guests did not like the dirt roads to hotels throughout Tamarindo (such roads are the majority). I think from things said that the guest did not like the idea of walking to the beach which is 500 meters from our hotel, particularly on muddy roads. Had I been here, I would have suggested using taxis or golf carts to get around. I do not know if that was suggested to them.Complaints about f

Look- if this property didn’t have pictures when you were booking it was probably be really exciting when you got there. I feel like the love of this property from the owner has been lost. I was most bummed about the patio which is 100% the reason we booked here. It does not look like the pictures anymore unfortunately and it is not a hot tub but a cold tub which with the heat in Costa Rica it was whatever. The first morning at 730AM we woke up to construction directly outside our bathroom that continued for each morning of our vacation- 3 nights. There are no windows on the bathroom so it was like the workers were in there with you. The water pressure works sometimes- one morning our toilet wouldn’t even flush. Not sure if that might just be something common in older properties here. Our WiFi only worked day one but we honestly stayed busy most the time we just let it be. This property just needs a little TLC from the owner who I 100% believe had passion for it when he purchased it but just has lost it. I struggled with the stars because if I had zero intel on this property I’d probably give it at least 4 stars. But given we book off of pictures so we were completely expecting something more updated and maintained, plus the very loud construction not a single person warned us about beforehand that brought the overall rating down.

Hi Elizabeth, and thanks for telling us what your stay was like. First, to you and anyone else who wonders what it's like to own and operate a bed and breakfast boutique hotel: We love it and we have been happy for our almost 11 years here at Tamarindo Village. We still have the desire to be the best we can be for our guests, so it was a surprise that you believed otherwise. I will just say that any construction work you observed here at the hotel resulted from our desire to maintain the hotel and to improve it.....that's how I define passion in the operation here.At the same time, the loud construction work that you heard and reported here was our new neighbors who are finishing their 1-year home buildout. We had a couple guys mixing cement by hand near your unit, and they could have been talking so that you heard them. We instruct our workers to avoid noise in the mornings, so if they were too loud, that is my fault for not supervising them enough. It would have been helpful for you to have told me while you were here, too.We really do not know what disappointed you regarding your large patio and cooling pool, other than the pool not being heated. It's not a hot tub. We never call it a "hot tub" in any of our marketing materials or person to person. The pool is to refresh guests. There is no heated water, we have never provided any for guests. We do need to say that we are in the middle of the wet season here in Costa Rica. It is also the slowest part of the business year here. Accordingly, we have removed and will replace some of our patio furniture, and we are doing some painting of exteriors of some rooms. We have already purchased most of the new patio furniture for the High season, and we will have more maintenance completed before December, too. If we looked a little wet and incomplete in ways, this is probably why during this time of the year. The water pressure issue has been fixed. I have checked it and its still fine. I did not make a note of your particular problem. But I know we had a broken pvc pipe before you arrived. I know we fixed the issue, but I don't remember if the problem might have been sediment clogging the shower head. We hope you enjoyed your included breakfasts, and that your bed was comfortable, and the A/C working? We hope to have you back to see that we still have the passion for operating our hotel in the best way for you.

Hi Mona, thank you for taking the time to write a review for your stay with us.I'm sure you enjoyed your stay, but at the same time I have to say that we are not the hotel at the base of a volcano, so perhaps the 2 reviews got mixed up.We hope to have you as our guest again in the near future.

The property is beautiful and the hosts very accommodating. The only issue we had was the water pressure or lack thereof. The road leading to the hotel could use a paving and more lighting at night but we felt safe. I would stay here again for sure.

Hi, Abigail, thanks for your comments and for staying with us at Tamarindo Village. You told us about the water pressure and we looked into it and found the shower head was blocked by sediment from the water heater. That was a surprise because we have installed a soft water system here. But it was an easy fix, too, and now the shower head is working great. We should have found that fix earlier. It is the rain season and so our road is rough - more so that it should be. The city is working on various roads in Tamarindo, but they have not yet gotten to ours. We apologize for that, even if we are not directly responsible for it.

What a Lovely Little Oasis

Publié le 13 août 2024 sur Hotels
We happened upon this lovely little hotel after our plans changed last minute and we ended up in Tamarindo. The staff was very friendly and very welcoming. The room was spacious and had everything that we needed. We were situated next to the pool which had a lovely covered seating area where we spent a lot of time sitting and enjoying the beautiful trees and flowers that surrounded it. A hot breakfast was available every morning and the food was very good. They also had tosst, cereal and fruit available. There was an honor bar located next to the pool which was great when you needed a beverage but did not want to walk to the store. This hotel was a little off of the main strip but it made it very quiet and the walk into town and to the beach was not bad at all. We would definitely stay here again if we find ourselves back in the area.
