Where Potential meets reality
Located in Accra’s vibrant Osu district, Number One Oxford Street Hotel & Suites has the potential to be a standout destination. My four-night stay, however, revealed a gap between its promise of luxury and the reality.
The highlight of my stay was the exceptional service from my butler, Bismarck. His attentiveness and problem-solving elevated the experience. From arranging an external spa therapist when in-house services were unavailable to anticipating our needs, he was a shining star. Unfortunately, even his efforts couldn’t mask the hotel’s broader flaws.
Cleanliness was a recurring issue. A lizard was left unattended by housekeeping, and worn towels arrived late despite repeated requests. These lapses undermined trust in the hotel’s standards.
The pool, though serene, was surprisingly small for a luxury property. The bathroom design also frustrated—forcing guests to step into scalding water to adjust the temperature.
Breakfast, in contrast, was a bright spot. A blend of continental staples and flavorful Ghanaian dishes, like a spicy tomato-based stew, reflected the care missing elsewhere.
Confusion over outdated spa pricing further soured the experience. A listed 380 GHS massage was charged at 800 GHS, a clear issue in transparency.
The location and staff were highlights, but operational issues hinder the hotel’s ability to justify its luxury positioning.
