Some informations concerning the house
The house, situated on the hill Plativola over the beach of Agia Galini Village, stands in the middle of a 8.300 m2 property which also includes170 small olive trees and 67 vines.
A marvelous view to the sea extends from the house and the whole property. We can see the islands of Paximadi, the villages of Agia Galini and Matala and the surrounding hills of very old olive trees.
The architectural design of the house is inspired from the Cretan construction style of the post Minoan period. The house complex is formed by two different buildings: the main house “Spiti” and the secondary house “Paraspito”.
The Paraspito is our guest house. On the first floor there is a large bedroom, a bathroom with WC, a kitchenette, a dining room and a large balcony. At the ground floor are the swimming pool’s WC and a covered area, cool and shady used as an eating place.
Conforming to the style of the post Minoan period the house complex is surrounded by a wall. Cretans used such walls as a defense against pirates that often visited the south part of Crete.
Our wall is the swimming pool’s wall! From the guesthouse’s balcony we can directly dive at the deepest part of the swimming pool, which is a 14x7 meters overflow type.
Looking out from the living room of the main house you see the blue water of the swimming pool becoming one with the blue sea.
The village of Agia Galini, situated at the feet of the house, is one of the most beautiful in Crete. Please enter the site: www.agia-galini.com to learn more about its history and mythology.
As you can also see on the map of Crete, close to the village of Agia Galini there are:
The city of Timbaki -16 km,
The city of Spili - 25 km. Also the capital of the province
The city of Rethymnon - 55 km
The city of Iraklion - 75 Km
The city of Chania - 95 Km
At a range of 7 km from Agia Galini, there are various villages. Some have beautiful sand beaches and some are perched on the mountains.
At a distance of 20 km there is the village of Matala which during the sixties became the center of the international hippy movement. The caves on the hill where hippies lived are visited today by the tourists.
At the same distance there is the ancient (Minoan) city of Festos. It is the second most important archeological site after Knossos which is at a distance of 80 km.
On the north of Agia Galini and at a distance of aprox. 35 km is mount Psiloritis, the highest mountain of Crete. It reaches 2600 m and has many sites of interest.
In close proximity you will find a lot of Byzantine monasteries and many other interesting spots that can be seen on the site of Crete island.
The property’s main entrance is a heavy metallic rolling gate flanked by beautiful bougainvillea. As you enter you find two stone covered alleys. One goes to the entrance of the court under the guest house and one goes to the garage.
As we open the garage’s wooden rolling door we enter an area of 200 m2. Here is also stored a small boat with a 25hp Mercury hors board engine. It is at your disposal for fishing or fun. The left part of the garage houses the pool room and its equipment.
We go up through a slated stair and arrive to the swimming pool patio, an area covered with Cretan flat ceramic colored stones and a grass court. At our left is a 100 m2 swimming pool, in front of us is the guest house and at our right the main house.
We enter the main house by a wooden door under an arched area where we take our breakfast at summer. We walk in the living room on iroco wooden floor. All floors of the house (salon, dining room, corridors, internal stair and bedrooms) have wooden iroco with the exception of the bathrooms and the kitchen. At our right side there is the dining room adjoining a fully equipped kitchen and a WC.
The wooden staircase takes us to the first floor. Here are four large bedrooms, each with its own bathroom and WC. Each bedroom has its own large balcony with a beautiful view to the sea.
From the balcony of the master bedroom we can go down to the court through an external slated stair.
