Our 4th of July weekend stay had some enjoyable moments, but overall, it was inconvenient, unsafe, and frustrating.
Positive Highlights: The lake was beautiful and ideal for fishing, swimming, and tubing. The house had ample space for about a dozen people and a few dogs.
Issues Encountered:
1. Electrical Problems:
- Lights throughout the house dimmed and flickered when multiple appliances were used.
- The electrical box popped and rattled at times.
- Some smoke detectors were non-functional or lacked batteries, a significant safety concern, especially since one downstairs bedroom lacked an egress window. In case of a fire, evacuation could have been impossible.
2. Cleanliness and Bugs:
- The glass sliding door couldn't be opened due to spiderwebs and bugs inside the screen.
- Ants appeared around the sink each morning, and spiders roamed the house. While some bugs are expected, this level of infestation was unusual compared to other cabins we've stayed in.
3. Pontoon Issues:
- The pontoon was covered in bird droppings and required extensive cleaning before use.
- Empty beer cans and bottles were found in most seats.
4. Homeowner's Response:
- Despite informing the homeowner of these issues face-to-face, he walked away from the conversation.
- He removed the pontoon keys, preventing us from using the boat for the rest of our stay.
- The home felt more like a bachelor pad than a family-friendly environment, and the homeowner made no effort to resolve our concerns.
