I was so excited upon arrival that I didn’t look closely at the unit until after the owner left. I was shocked at the overall presence of the unit, but downplayed my disappointment since a place to sleep and shower were my true priorities. The items of concern were, but not limited to: dishwasher full of dirty dishes, unemptied (and full) bathroom trash can, unsafe sopping wet unit floor, old broken items such as lamps, dining room table, and a desk laden with graffiti. Disheveled linens in bedroom closet, unattractive bed/bedspread, old bikes, unkempt kitchen, old furnishings, entertainment equipment, and overall decor & artwork. Extreme mold on shower curtain and grimy walls throughout.
This unit has great potential, as it’s in a wonderful location. If the owner put $$ into the unit, replaced outdated furnishings, cleaned & painted walls, etc, it would be desirable and pleasant. I understand canal homes are old and may lack modern amenities - that’s the charm travelers enjoy! This should not affect the unit’s overall look & feel.
My husband and I are property managers, so our expectations may be different than a traveler who doesn’t look at a unit in a specific manner. I have high hopes for this unit as it, again, has potential to be wonderful.
