A charming renovated old farmhouse in a quiet location in the village of Alagoa approx. 1.5kms from the main district town of Arganil. The house is approached by a quiet lane that leads on to the apple orchards and the local vineyards of the village. The house can accommodate up to 8 people with a good quality sofa bed in the living room.
A circular above ground splash pool, 3m in diameter, has been added this year and is a private pool in the garden of Casa de Alagoa and is not shared with other houses. The large lounge has comfortable seating for 8 including a high quality sofa bed, Portuguese satellite TV (some English channels), CD/DVD player, Wi fi internet access, books and games and a dining table and chairs seating up to 8. Many original features have been retained including the old wood beams and the natural stone wall. There is a wood burner for the cooler winter months with a complimentary basket of logs on arrival, more logs can be provided at an extra cost or bought in the super markets in Arganil. The well equipped kitchen has a gas stove, fridge/freezer, dishwasher, washing machine, microwave, kettle, toaster etc. The main double bedroom has a double bed and ensuite bathroom and a private terrace overlooking the garden and surrounding countryside. The second double bedroom has a double bed and the third bedroom has 2 single beds, there is also another separate shower room, towels can be provided on request. The private garden has a stone BBQ and outside dining furniture with views across the vineyards and apple orchards of Alagoa to Arganil and the distant mountains.
Arganil is the main district town with supermarkets, shops, restaurants and cafes, there is entertainment in the square at the weekend during the summer. The river is 500ms from the house and the river beach at Sarzedo, where the council have also built a swimming pool, is less than 2 kms away and can be reached by a short walk. There is another pretty river beach in Secarias approx. 2 kms away where you can hire pedaloes and there are restaurants and cafes there.
Coimbra is an ancient capital of Portugal and approx. 45 kms away.
The Serra da Estrela is the highest mountain range with skiing in winter, approx. 50kms away.
This area of Portugal is relatively undiscovered by main stream tourists giving it a much more restful feel. The scenery is beautiful with rivers flowing through the green valleys and the little villages nestled on the mountain sides. An ideal place to visit for a relaxing holiday in the sun!
