Domaine Tournesol is a stylish and tastefully decorated gite with large illuminated private pool and gardens with views of the stunning Pyrenees. The pool is exclusively for guests use.
Set in the Madiran wine growing region of SW France 'Domaine Tournesol is an original old wine farm that has been sympathetically renovated by the owners who endeavored to retain as much of the traditional design as possible, this has been combined with a high level of comfort which will appeal to the discerning traveller.
The property includes oven, hob, microwave, fridge dishwasher, washing machine, coffee maker, iron & ironing board. The open plan dinning room / lounge is equipped with surround sound T.V and the facility to stream media from your own WI-FI enabled device.
There is a beamed double bedroom and a further twin room, a separate shower room and toilet.
Fresh linen, towels & pool towels are provided on a weekly basis.
On arrival a welcome pack including a bottle of great tasting local wine will be waiting in the gite for you. The owners Kay and Neil will be on hand to meet you no matter what time you arrive.
There is a large private walled garden complete with al-fresco dining facilities & BBQ. The gîte is surrounded by stunning mature gardens with shaded quiet areas and varied flora and fauna. Guests are able to pick seasonal fruit and vegetables from the potager. Please note that the owners will also have access to the garden for pool maintenance and garden work if necessary or to hang out washing. The owners endeavour to do this if or when visitors are away from the property.
Domaine Tournesol is ideally located to explore the breathtaking countryside, it’s vineyards and the Pyrenees.
The Atlantic coastline with its wide sandy beaches is just one and half hours from your gîte.
We are ideally located for mountain stages of the Tour de France and for the international jazz festival at Marciac which boasts an impressive line up of international artists. Both events take place in July each year. Stage 13 of the Tour de France 2024 on the 12th of July will be pass by Domaine Tournesol as it winds its way to the finish line at Pau, so take the opportunity to watch the race from your terrace whilst enjoying a glass of local wine. At present this week as not yet been booked.
Nestled in rolling countryside filled with vineyards and fields of vivid sunflowers and towering maize, Domaine Tournesol’s tranquil setting also offers some great days out with numerous local events in the area, including a photography and art exhibitions, historical Roman sites, chateau’s churches, caves and wildlife parks.
For those amongst you who enjoy walking and cycling then you will find plenty of quite leafy lanes where tractors are the only traffic you are likely to encounter.
Canoeing, kayaking are both available locally, if however you want something more exhilarating white water rafting is available in the Lourdes area.
Tennis courts and a open air pool can be found in Madiran. The village boasts a bar bistro and an exclusive restaurant. Madiran also plays host to a four day wine festival in August with wine tasting, live music, alfresco dining and a firework display. It is not to be missed
The chateau at Crouseilles offers free wine tasting, panoramic views of the mountains and local walks through the surrounding fields of vines. The Chateau also stages music concerts throughout the summer.
Further afield a 18 hole golf course is just a 30min drive away.
The gîte is just a hour and a half drive away from Biarritz with its stunning beaches, surf and chic boutiques. Northern Spain and the cosmopolitan city of San Sabastian is just a further 30 minute drive.
Closer to home there are great days out to be had in the city of Pau with its festivals, upmarket shopping facilities, chic bars and restaurants and historic buildings. The city hosts a international Grand Prix festival in May on its street circuit, a must for race enthusiasts.
The Catholic pilgrimage site in Lourdes is a forty minute drive away. The town boasts stunning architecture and views with its castle and vinicular.
Twin a visit to Lourdes with a drive through the wonderful Pyrenees with its glorious views, especially those from the Pic du Midi and world renowned observatory.
For all you foodies enjoy the local food including Fois Gras and Brebis cheese at the numerous restaurants in the area, or simply drop into one of the many Chateaus to sample the local wines.
So whether you just want to relax by the pool on long warm summer days or explore this tranquil and largely undiscovered area of SW France, Domaine Tournesol is that ideal setting to do either.
