The Pump House - cosy farm cottage

The Pump House is a traditional style cottage, which overlooks a beautiful Victorian lawn with native and exotic trees to the front, and a cobblestone yard to the back. The cottage is tastefully decorated throughout, bright and spacious, with the guests' comfort and enjoyment in mind. It has oil fired central heating and a solid fuel stove as well as a range of extra complimentary amenities. It is located next to our 18th century house, in the middle of 35 acres of farmland dotted with ancient trees, shrubberies, and a wide variety of wildlife and domestic animals-yet only 20 minutes walk from the historic town of Athy. The Barrow runs adjacent to it and is ideal for coarse fishing. We pride ourselves on the gentle hospitality we provide our guests and look forward to welcoming you soon!

About Athy: - a heritage town in south Kildare, situated on the intersection of the River Barrow and the Grand Canal. The town developed from a 12th century Anglo-Norman settlement and has many beautiful landmark monuments. The Heritage Centre, situated in the main town square, provides a wealth of information to all visitors and doubles as a local history museum. There are several important festivals in Athy throughout the year, namely Tri-Athy (early June), Gordon Bennett Vintage Motor Rally (June) and the Shackleton Autumn School (October). Tuesdays are market day in Athy. There is also a number of quality restaurants in the town, as well as traditional Irish pubs and a good selection of shops.

Activities on our farm: FISHING - The Barrow runs adjacent to our farm and offers fishing enthusiasts enjoyment all year round, with plenty of pike, bream and roach available.
FAUNA AND FLORA - ours is a visitor friendly farm and guests are welcome to roam through the fields and enjoy the countryside at close hand. There are many beautiful old trees dotted through the farm and a wide variety of wildlife and domestic animals to be seen: pheasants, rabbits, hares, hens, sheep, cows and horses. And while you're at it, don't forget to close your eyes and enjoy the magnificent bird song, particularly if you didn't get up to hear the Dawn Chorus at day break.

Other local activities: All of these and many more are available either in Athy or within a short distance drive: GOLF - see details below. FISHING - the River Barrow and the Grand Canal offer fishing enthusiasts enjoyment all year round, with plenty of pike, bream and roach available. There are also trout fishing lakes nearby. HORSE RACING -The Curragh, Naas and Punchestown are the nearest racecourses and host monthly meetings. GREYHOUND RACING - a cheaper and exciting alternative to horse racing. Races take place in Newbridge every Friday and Saturday night. MOTOR RACING - for 'would-be Verstappens' at Mondello Park Racing Circuit. SOMETHING WE DIDN'T MENTION? If there is any other activity that you are particularly interested in, just ask and we will be happy to make enquiries for you!

Small, cozy and perfect
This place was in the perfect spot for all our travels. We toured almost all of Ireland and this was just in the perfect location. The owners were just so sweet and I loved their dog Rocket, he was the sweetest. It was so much better than staying at a hotel. It was a more home like feeling. I recommend this place to everyone

Great place, great hosts
We loved Athy and this cottage! Claudia and James were excellent hosts. They were there for anything we needed but also allowed us space and privacy. We did not rent a car for 3 of the 4 weeks we were there and relied on public transportation. We were able to walk to town, grocery stores and the train station from this property. With a car, everything in town is mere minutes away. The cottage provided everything we needed and was comfortable, clean and spacious….our home away from home. The town has plenty of grocery stores, restaurants, pubs and coffee shops to choose from and plenty of sites to see. You can enjoy the quiet of the countryside while still having amenities close by with this property. A true place to relax after a day of exploring all that Ireland has to offer.

Wonderful family run farm.
The pump house is located on a multi generational family owned farm. The house could not be any cleaner or nicer. Claudia and James are wonderful hosts. We did some fishing along the banks of the river on their property. It’s very tranquil. This is a great home base for those looking to do day trips. Easily accessible. We’d highly recommend.

Oasis in Athy
We were absolutely delighted with this charming cottage and our hosts Claudia and James were extremely welcoming. Their attention to detail was very impressive and they thought of everything to make our stay as pleasant as possible. The animals were an absolute delight to see in the morning and evenings when we came home. It's our dream retirement cottage! Thank you, most sincerely to Claudia and James.

Lovely little country house
Staying here was a good experience for us. The hosts were very pleasant and prompt with response to our questions and needs. The property is clean and well cared for. We enjoyed watching the dogs, chickens, horses, sheep and mule roam around. It is in a quiet country location about a mile or so from Athy town where there were shops, restaurants, and several supermarkets. Our favorite experiences were walking a number of the river and canal paths in the area. We also enjoyed a visit to Burtown Gardens and their excellent restaurant. The bed in this house was an American king-size and very comfortable. Be aware that the house is very compact and any noise in one room travels throughout. The kitchen was adequate and we cooked and ate our evening meals there. All in all a fine place to stay for our last week in Ireland that put us within easy driving distance of Dublin airport for departure home.

Great find
The cottage was a great location for us. The bed was so comfortable, and the wood burner very cosy. Claudia and James were lovely hosts. The only downside was the noise of the water pump every time the toilet flushed or the shower/ taps were in use. I would stay again though

Excellent cosy cottage on a former manor farm on estate in the beautiful Athy
We enjoyed 100% of our time at the cottage, which is located at a former manor farm on an estate near to river Barrow in Athy, county Kildare. The cottage is perfect in all perspectives: complete, cozy, modernly equipped furniture, king-size bed with good mattresses, beautiful rural kitchen and lots of privacy. The estate Barrowford is reached via a driveway surrounded by monumental trees. At the former farm, there are lots of friendly animals: a donkey, 3 lovely dogs, 3 sheep, 3 horses and many chickens. The quiet cottage is the perfect starting point for trips to Kildare (stud and Japanese Garden) and the medieval city of Kilkenny. Even Dublin can be easily visited via the motorway. It is the ideal place for the stressed townsman to recover and reload. The owners are Claudia and James, who are very hospitable, willing to help and gave us suggestions for nice trips. We felt welcome from the first moment, happily surprised by the nice welcome package including wine, the flowers in the bedroom etc.! This cottage is absolute recommendable for a long weekend, which will turn out to be too short. Better to spend a week at the fantastic cottage at Barrowford, we are sure you will enjoy it, just like we did in September 2021!

Fantastic Family Holiday
We had the most amazing holiday at Cosy Farm Cottage. From the moment we booked, we were already made welcome by a lovely email from Claudia. The postcode Claudia gave us took us straight to the Cottage where Claudia met us to explain how heating etc. worked, whilst keeping safe guidelines. The Cottage was immaculate, with beautiful personal touches, like fresh flowers, a basil plant which I used for my cooking and wood & kindling for the stove which was restocked without asking during our stay. A beautiful welcoming parcel of the most gorgeous home made bread ever! a bottle of wine, fresh free range eggs, milk, butter, crisps & chocolates for our kids. Everything that you could possibly need for your stay is in the cottage. We found that we had more than enough room and our boys aged 11 & 9 enjoyed sleeping in the loft (or their Den as they called it) looking at the stars through the skylight. The beds, pillows & sheets were so comfortable & clean and the master bedroom I found very spacious. Initially we booked the cottage as a base for day trips, but honestly we had our best days spent there. Claudia and James are the most welcoming, genuine hosts we have ever met. They gave us our privacy, but were always on hand if we needed anything, which we didn't. We had the whole farm to roam freely & the River Barrow on the property to fish and paddle in. We met petting sheep, hens, the family dogs (Lucy, Koda - friendliest dog ever & the newest addition Goose the puppy), not forgetting our morning visitor Don Quixote the donkey (talking to a donkey through the half door or window is an unreal experience). The animals are not intrusive and only interacted with us when we wanted. In fact, our boys were able to play football in the garden and the dogs didn't even go near them. Our boys were also given the use of a go-cart which they loved (James even pumped up the wheel for them when they flattened it) and they also used the swings in the family's garden too. The pretty town of Athy is only approx. 1 mile away, the nearest store for our groceries was Aldi but there is also a Lidl store further in the town. Claudia had left us info for a couple of local take-aways who delivered to the cottage and on our last night we treated to ourselves to a meal from "The Good Burger" which was so tasty & delivered straight to our door. We loved staying her so much that we are already looking forward to our next hol here. Thank you Claudia, James & your lovely family.

The Pump House
My daughter wants to move in! That says it all about our stay in the Pump House. I feel like we've discovered a well-kept secret and part of me wants to put people off track so that it's not booked out next time we want to visit, but really, I've nothing but good things to say about Claudia and her family and their cute little cottage and the hilarious donkey and all his lovely farmyard buddies. We love Athy and the river Barrow so this was a real treat of a weekend. We ate and drank and swam in the nearby river Barrow. We played cards and football and had picnics on the lawn. We went to the skate park and the car boot sale and Burton House and Gardens. And we made some great memories!

A magical, special stay
We will never forget this special, special place, where I proposed to my now fiancée! We could not have picked a more perfect place for this special occasion. The cottage is beautiful, warm and cosy, based on a pretty farm with very friendly horses, dogs, chickens and donkey! The hosts were so welcoming and friendly, and were genuinely kind people. Claudia and James provided some great tips on what to do nearby, gave us a lovely welcome package for our arrival, and when they found out about our engagement, they gave us a gorgeous bottle of champagne! They were the kindest hosts we could have ever hoped for! We will be singing their praises for a long time and will definitely be back. Thank you again! From G&H xx

WORST EXPERIENCE IN MY LIFE. DO NOT STAY HERE! DIRTY, OLD, DANGEROUS and VERY BAD HOSTS.
Upon arrival the Host was coughing and did not wear a mask, there was no disinfection of the space nor did they uphold their policy of 24h space between guests. Its the middle of a pandemic! The last Guests had just left a couple of minutes before. When stepping into the small old and mouldy cottage there was a very strong smell of fuel. This turned out to be kerosene, owners confirmed that they were casually cleaning and refuelling their own heating tank. It seemed like going back a century in time. Due to health concerns, I immediately informed the owners that I will not be staying here with my child. I asked for a refund as non of the policies that were listed were upheld, nor did the place look like in the photographs. More like a derelict house in the middle of a field. They refused to this day to refund, despite being instructed by VRBO to do so. This is a fraud. DO NOT STAY THERE. GREEDY OWNERS THAT DONT CARE ABOUT SAFETY OF GUESTS!!!!

Family-friendly cottage in the countryside
Our family had a perfect stay in this quaint gem of a cottage! It was just the right mix of town and country that we were looking for. The shops were within 20 minutes walking distance and all of our needs were met. The hosts were so kind, friendly and attentive. We were greeted with fresh eggs, scones, cream and jam when we arrived! Sorely needed after a long car journey. The kids especially loved watching and interacting with the farm animals. If you like being on a farm surrounded by gorgeous old trees, this place is for you. Thank you Claudia, James and family for a fabulous two weeks!

The Pump House is a wonderful place from which to explore this part of Ireland. The cottage is very comfortable - the loft is especially fine for sipping morning coffee- and the Reeves provide the welcoming essentials, from fresh flowers to fresh farm eggs, which was a lifesaver since we arrived very late to the cottage. The king sized bed is the perfect place to collapse into after a long day of touring, while the heat warmed up the cottage enough to take away the early autumn chill. The Pump House is on a working farm, so there are animals around, but being greeted by friendly dogs is always the best way to begin a day! The owners, Claudia and James, are the perfect hosts. They will arrange for taxi rides, even giving my husband a ride down to Clancy's for the weekly Thursday night Irish music session and are good resources on where to go in the area. Athy, Ireland is perfectly situated near major roads and trains, so getting around is fairly easy. I would highly recommend the Pump House . Our stay there was simply a lot of fun!

We needed a place to stay while visiting family in the area and the Pump House cottage was perfect. It's quiet and peaceful, and very comfortable. The kids loved the bed in the loft area ! The owners do a fantastic job of making guests welcome. Loved the fresh scones and jam set out on the table when we got there ! Little touches like that really make a difference. We heartily recommend the cottage and look forward to staying there again some time
