We loved the neighborhood that this property is in, particularly that it was walkable to good food, quiet at night, and had a nice small park nearby. The staff were great and very accommodating and helpful. What the property lacks is privacy -- other visitors hanging out outside of their rooms talking sounded like they were in our room, and if our blinds were open, anyone could see in. Overall, though, I would stay here again.

Liked: Staff & service
A great, quiet location to explore Ponsonby and surroundings. The street was very quiet however the buildings are pretty dated and it was loud whenever the next room used the shower/bathroom. The rooms could do with a refurbishment but the staff were so lovely and accommodating.
Everything was great, staff was so friendly and helpful. Only downside (but a large one), the bed was uncomfortable. Super soft and difficult to sleep. Plus not many king size options so we opted for Queen but I’m a toss/turner at night, so next to husband didn’t sleep great. But everything was clean, great space for the room, and a great location next to restaurants and had free parking.
Lovely hotel in a quiet street just off the main road of Ponsonby. Terrific location, right near one of Auckland’s best eating districts. Service was very friendly and the hotel was quiet. Would definitely stay again.
We had a wonderful two nights stay here - especially since we walked to dinner both nights and there are so many restaurants just a few blocks away. Out also quite close to downtown Auckland, the harbor and Sky Tower. The room itself was fine - had everything that was advertised. There was even a cute little courtyard right outside our unit of we had wanted to linger (we didn’t as we were only there two days and had so much we wanted to see and do).
A lovely place in a quiet neighbourhood, just a couple of minutes walk from some of the best eating & drinking in Auckland - you could spend weeks here and never eat at the same place twice. The ArtHotel itself is lovely - we stayed in a small apartment which had everything we needed. The staff were lovely and gave us all the space & privacy we needed, while the ArtHotel had plenty of social options for those who like that sort of thing. We'll definitely stay there again when we return to Auckland.
It was bit like stepping back in time, back to honesty and trust. They offer a free drink, if you want more you write down what you had, for eg. No full length mirror. Also no shower cap! Otherwise everything you could want. Very quiet. Nice rooms.
Had a great welcome from the host and was very helpful. The room was pretty dated but very clean. Not sure about other rooms but the sheets felt a little damp, not sure whether that was just Auckland on this day.
A lovely hotel. A bit shabby around the edges, perhaps, but clean and well-maintained and full of bright charm and character. The neighborhood is predominately residential: the quiet streets are lined with attractive homes. Just up from the hotel is the main road, with loads of good cafes and restaurants and shopping, not to mention views down the other side of CBD. I love to walk, so it wasn't a problem to me that the hotel was a good 45 minutes or even an hour by foot from downtown. The hotel breakfast was not included in my rate, which I was told was just as well because if I paid for it in my rate I'd be paying for breakfast for two, and I am a solo traveler; instead I went up to the high street, which was great. I will gladly come back the next time I'm in Auckland.
I spent three nights at the Art Hotel with great rooms, lovely service and I would recommend for singles and couples who want to be near everything but still have piece and quiet and with the bonus of free parking and full breakfast service.
Ponsonby is a true gem. It’s filled with character, quirkiness, and care. If you’re interested in something unique, and a short walk from a ton of restaurants and shops, I highly recommend the ArtHotel.
