Tree Pipit Cottage - Luxury Cottages
At a glance
Perfect for couples and families with children over 7 years old Tranquil setting on a private estate Close to the Jurassic Coast
About the property
Tree Pipit is a delightful semi-detached, stone cottage, located at the edge of Membury village in East Devon's Black Down Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Set in the 8-acre estate of the owners' Grade II-listed, Georgian country house, the cottage offers a truly peaceful countryside stay with a remote feel, yet is only several miles away from the Jurassic Coast and bustling towns. Tree Pipit Cottage is a wonderful escape if you're seeking rest, relaxation and quality time away from the norm.
The space
Tree Pipit Cottage is a cosy, single-storey property that was once one of the estate's outbuildings, but has been lovingly converted to provide comfortable accommodation. Throughout the cottage areas of the original stone walls remain exposed for an injection of period, country character, while the light colour palette gives it a bright and fresh feel.
An open-plan living area features a sitting room with two sofas and a dining table that can seat four people, offering an ideal place to enjoy family meals together or nights in front of the TV. An electric wood-burner will warm you up on those cooler evenings and make the cottage feel extra cosy. In the living area, you'll see that a picture of a Brigand aircraft has been proudly hung on the wall. It's a nod to the White family who bought the estate in 1919 and were instrumental in the manufacture of early, pioneering aircraft.
When it comes to whipping up a picnic for a day out or a tasty dinner, you'll find everything to do so in the fully-fitted kitchen, which also has a dishwasher to make clearing up easy. French doors lead from the living area out onto a paved courtyard garden with a table and chairs where you can enjoy an alfresco lunch or pre-dinner drinks. Beyond this is a lawned area that guests of other cottages also have access to.
The first of the two bedrooms has one double bed, whilst the second has two singles (which can be converted into a double on request), which makes the cottage ideal for a small family. It's so peaceful here, with hardly a sound outside, that many guests report having one of the best night's sleep they've ever had. There's also a family shower room with a shower, sink and WC.
Guest access
Tree Pipit Cottage is one of five cottages set on the owners' 8-acre estate and on arrival, the owners who live in the Georgian country house on the estate, will be available to meet you. Across the garden there is a laundry room with washing machine and tumble dryer facilities that is shared with guests of other cottages. Guests are welcome to enjoy walks in the estate's grounds that include a garden with mature trees and a large pond, as well as a wooded area and fields. It's a totally peaceful place and as such guests are asked to respect the air of tranquillity.
Sustainability
The estate in which Tree Pipit Cottage is located is a haven for wildlife including deer and a range of birds. The owners are keen to help nature flourish by, for example, maintaining the natural pond and ensuring there are bee-friendly plants.
We plant a tree for every booking we make to help offset some of the carbon emissions generated by our stays.
