Historic Hotel.
Craig's Royal Hotel is a lovely old building with a lot of history. I particularly enjoyed the old fashion lift which I've never seen outside of old movies. The staff were wonderful, the snack bar being open late is a life saver for musicians or anyone who is going to be out late, it's not quite like getting a full meal but at least it's some nice, hot food. My room was small but cozy, perfect for what I needed. My only issues were that the cord on the kettle was barely long enough to reach the plug from the table that it was sitting on and there were some cobwebs on the side of the wardrobe facing the bathroom door, a very small amount in a spot that would be easy to miss when dusting so it wasn't worth complaining about and I'd say that most guests probably wouldn't even have noticed. I'm only mentioning it here because a review does call for such things. But that's really my only criticism, everything else was great. Maybe they could include breakfast in the price of the stay, but that's not a big deal as the breakfast menu is fairly reasonably priced anyway.

Hotel seemed understaffed, ordered a coffee the staff member who was making it was both serving other guests both at the bar and handling check ins. Meals very ordinary. The craigs used to be one of the best in Victoria, sadly since its changed hands its gone down hill.

Although we enjoyed our stay and the reception staff were very helpful and I thoroughly enjoyed the spa bath, there were issues,there was dust throughout the property,carpets in the main area were actually threadbare! and I don’t think the mattress had been changed since Prince Albert stayed there since it sagged badly in the middle! Such a shame as overall it’s a lovely hotel.

Paid for the best room with a spa bath and balcony, spa bath was dirty and didnt work & balcony was shared with a second room where an angry woman yelled at us for walking out onto it (why would you not put a divider?)

The absolute charm of the hotel negates and negatives. For me the hotel is getting a little old, aircon quite tired, bed needing tightening up, never the less I continue to stay at Craigs. It's wonderful.

The hot water in the show keeps playing up, sometimes hot, sometimes cold; there was a time I was washing my hair, and suddenly, the water became cold. I told reception, and they said they would have a plumber to have a look in the future.....Not a very good experience

Missed the mark
Had to find a suitable hotel for a weekend speaking engagement in Ballarat. Hotel is ageing for sure but was ok. Car park entry is very difficult and staff were all confused as to how to enter. I was locked out on Saturday night after 10pm. Had to exit through roller door and walk all the way to front of hotel to access. Crazy! Also the biggest issue was music playing all the time... all night. No one knew anything about it. Shocking and very disruptive. Staff seemed untrained and very young to be managing a hotel. Same guy was on front desk and making coffee for brekky. No water at the table.. simple things missing. Eggs overcooked.. bacon dry and not cooked fresh...wouldn't recommend staying here. Such a shame for an iconic place.

Beautiful building but Rooms need updating, no shower door (water went everywhere), toilet seat all cracked, central heating / aircon (poor), window didn’t open in bathroom, fridge very unpractical (no freezer), pack your own pillow if you need any substance (so thin).
