Property is ok; Management company is awful
Overall the property itself is just ok. We noticed that it's for sale as well. The listing implies that the basement is accessible, but it's not so others should be aware of this. This is a basic property that has the main things you'd need but isn't really anything above that. When we first arrived, we noticed two overflowing trash cans outside the house. Given that this is in the mountains and we received a message telling us NOT to do this given the presence of bears, this was a bit surprising. We contacted Vacasa (management company) and were told to take the trash to the dump. Seriously!?!?!?! When I wrote back to clarify that they wanted us to take someone else's trash to the dump we were told the local team would be notified. After two nights of dealing with animals rooting through the trash and the place starting to smell like a dump itself, we left and didn't stay the last night. This was an awful experience, and I'd suggest caution when renting any place in the Sugar/Beech area that is managed by Vacasa. This has not been my experience with other Vacasa properties, but this team seems particularly bad.

Nasty place mouse droppings in the bed
Worst place we have ever stayed. It was dirty mouse dropping in the kids bed,the management team was sorry but didn't fix the issue until the next day. I had washed and sanitized the bed so the kids could have a place to sleep . They didn't care that the bed was dirty. One bed didn't have sheets at all. Dished were out up dirty so I had to wash them before using them. The outside trash cans were left full and animals tore open the bags and it was a mess. The rental was not maintained it's kind of shabby ,the living area and dining area was nice with the exception of the dirty dishes. Will never stay in a place that is with this company . The lack of care that mouse dropping were in a kids bed is why I'll never use them again. They got tired of me asking when the beds would be cleaned that they quit responding to my messages. Worst rental experience ever.

The cabin was amazing. Just a bit difficult for those who are not use to it to go up the hill. The location is perfect for those wishing to ski and very close to the town as well.

Lots of Space, Good Location and Good Value
Nice space with plenty of room. The location is great (very close to Banner Elk, etc.) and has some nice quirky cabin touches. Would be a 5 star but for a few things- inside could use some freshening up and outside is pretty overgrown and not ideal.

Great location!!
We really enjoyed this house! Location was great. One thing to keep in mind was that we rented this house because it had two bedrooms and a bathroom on the bottom floor for my elderly mom, aunt and uncle. But, there are very steep stairs to get up to the bottom floor. That made it more challenging. Other than that, it was very nice and clean and convenient to the Fall festivals.

Good location
The location is great for Beech Mountain. The three bedrooms and house has adequate space and it’s great that it’s dog friendly. The house could use a deep cleaning, but overall satisfied our need.

Good location
We were shocked because the place wasn’t cleaned. Bed sheets, sofa covers etc. were dirty with plenty of stains and dog hair and unwashed. I called Vacasa and reported the issue . It took a while but someone came with new sheets and cleaning supplies. So for the next a few hours we were cleaning the house ugh.. The nice thing was a location . There is a Vinery across the street and another one 10 min away. Close to Boone , Sugar Mountain or Beech Mountain Resort. Everything around . The house had a hot water and fireplace worked. I didn’t like vasca policy about checking in. They should be more flexible friendly for visitors traveling with children and long distance.

Perfect little place!!
I meant to write this review while we were staying at this house so I wouldn’t forget anything. First, the things we loved. It’s so cute! We took advantage of the kitchen and baked cookies. It had everything we needed. The beds were comfortable although I did have to wash the pillowcases in the master bedroom as they did not smell clean. No big deal. It was cold when we were there so we didn’t use the decks but did plug in the festive lights on both decks. We also hiked up above the house and it was one of the most beautiful places ever. My 13 year old found the area first and even though a little hard to hike up to it, he convinced me it was worth it. It was! Our dog loved running around up there as well. I am very picky about things being clean and felt it was for the most part. As for the negatives, we arrived at night and the GPS from the listing took us to the wrong house. I suggest arriving during the day if possible. We also came in from the direction that winds you around the mountain. We quickly learned the easy way to get to restaurants, etc and when we ventured out to Boone or other places we put Banner Elk cafe in the GPS so it would take us the easy way to and from the house. Also, I have rented using VRBO for many years and have never delt with a management co quite like this one. They were nice but I had to go through extra steps that I was not use to. Things such as having to call them to verify my identity, signing extra documents, etc. Again, they were nice but it was kind of a pain. A few people mentioned the basement. We didn’t have a need for it so it didn’t bother us but I guess they should take it off the pictures. As a very picky renter, would I rent this property again? Yes! We loved our stay picking out our Christmas trees and this cute house! My kids loved the bunk beds, playing hide & seek and exploring the area around the house.

Just okay
I felt that the photos were a little misleading - overall the house is fine but some of the bedding is outdated and it just wasn't as "bright" as we expected. There was also a fair amount of dog hair on the couch which I know is something you risk when you stay at a pet-friendly property but it just didn't feel super clean. My biggest complaint is that the Vacasa team that manages the property is somewhat unaccommodating to any special requests. They contacted us offering a discounted extra night, letting us know that the property was not rented the night before our arrival. We were unable to do an extra night, but I did call to ask about an early check in for a child who naps. They stated they have a "no early check in" policy and do not make exceptions, even when the property is ready and has already been cleaned. I'm just accustomed to property managers being more accommodating with guests when the situation allows for it. They were somewhat rude in my interactions and did not offer any justification just that we could not check in. Overall the stay was fine, just not 100% what we expected when we booked!

Great Stay
The gas fireplace is inoperative, there is no trash service so we had to haul our trash back home - what a pain. The listing shows a basement that can be utilized (table, chairs in it) - this is incorrect as it is locked and states unavailable for use. The loss of using the basement is not a bid deal - it should be noted on the listing and the photos removed. Knowing these I still would stay again and would recommend.
