•ABOUT US•
Here at Vermilion Hollow we (your host, Jake, and co-host/wife, Lauren) offer guests something completely unique, while being your local experts who can help at every turn.
Guests will be sent a short questionnaire letting us know how hands on, or off, you’d like us to be. We regularly help with trip planning, giving tours of the property and gardens, assisting with camp fires, decorating for birthdays and anniversaries, arranging flowers, casual chats over tea, and we’ll even porter luggage. We’re also just as happy to stay out of your way entirely; you’d be surprised we’re even here. We’re here to assist with any kind of stay you’re looking for!
Sitting 400 feet up on the side of Razor Mountain, the suite opens up to a completely unique, million-dollar view. Oak Ridge Mountain is only 600 yards away, and towers nearly 900 feet above the cabin, lending to the property feeling like it’s in a nest of trees. Retreat into quiet solitude as we sit less than a mile outside Pisgah National Forest.

•ACCESSIBILITY•
The space is well-suited for guests with minor mobility difficulties. There are no steps leading into or within the suite, except for a 5.5” shower edge. All doorways are at least 32”, however the door to the bathroom cannot be opened all the way and is 29” at its most narrow. The driveway is fine heavily-compacted gravel. The bed is 19” tall, and the sofa bed is 23” tall. If you have more specific questions, we welcome you to ask anything and everything, and please do so prior to booking.
•PRIVACY•
The suite is designed to offer near-complete seclusion, with its own entrance, parking area, patio, outdoor spaces, and HVAC system. Reflective tinting on the windows adds an extra layer of privacy. Many improvements to soundproof the space have been made, and you share no walls with the host other than the ceiling.
While we love guest interaction, we err on the side of guest privacy and seclusion, so we encourage guests to advocate for themselves should they be looking for anything in particular with their stay. We’re here as much or as little as you want us!

•THE PROPERTY•
This property was formerly used for livestock and tree harvesting. As the new stewards of the land, we’ve taken it upon ourselves to let things re-wild for a bit to attract the wildlife. We manage a small family food plot, but otherwise we are letting the forest heal. Neighbors on three sides still maintain livestock, and you can often hear cows just up the mountain or hanging out by the road.
Guests are welcome to pitch a tent or hammock on the wood platform adjacent to the suite.
Enjoy a slightly more mild climate as we are sit over 1200 feet above the valley (Asheville).
West facing, relax out on the patio and take in some incredible sunsets.
The property has multiple natural springs that run down the mountain, converging at a magical creek, that we’ve supplied with a fire pit and outdoor seating.
There are two mile of trails - ascend 700 ft. up the mountain via the old logging road for a strenuous and rewarding hike
Enjoy the enchanting experience of stargazing under some of the darkest skies in the eastern US. Come during a full moon and take a nighttime stroll without the need for lights, and listen as the mountain comes alive.
Wildlife enthusiasts will be delighted by frequent sightings of deer, bears, rabbits, squirrels, bats, hawks, turkeys, blue jays, robins, hummingbirds, box turtles, salamanders, crayfish, butterflies, fireflies, beetles, luna and tuliptree moths, and many more.
•WELLNESS•
Treat yourself to an invigorating massage or bodywork session provided by our talented neighbor, Rebecca. She offers exceptional in-suite services at a very reasonable rate.
As a practicing Zen Buddhist, I am happy to offer guided meditation services for those interested, whether you are new to meditation or simply seek a meditation partner during your vacation. The service lasts approximately an hour and includes a brief overview of Zen Buddhism, a recitation of the Heart Sutra (a foundational text) followed by about 15 minutes of Shikantaza, Japanese for "just sitting." This style of meditation is similar to popular mindfulness exercises, and aids in cultivating a calm and clear mind. The meditation service is provided to you unconditionally free.
Experience the restorative power of shinrin-yoku, or “forest bathing”, a Japanese practice that encourages deep immersion in nature. Too free and guided by your host, you'll engage your senses, absorbing the healing properties of the forest. This mindful experience promotes relaxation, reduces stress, and enhances your overall well-being.
Lighting in the suite has been meticulously managed. Being exposed to warm lighting, which can be found across the suite, a few hours before bed helps promote the natural production of melatonin, helping to recover one’s circadian rhythm (one’s natural sleep schedule). The floor, table, and bedside lamps emit a cozy candle hue, while the recessed lighting is matched to mimic sunlight, creating a space that is bright when needed, or warm and comforting at night.
•CONSIDERING FACTORS•
Please note that cell reception in the area is limited. We encourage guests to activate WiFi Calling on their devices prior to their stay, and take advantage of our near gigabit internet speeds.
While significant efforts have been made to soundproof the suite, please understand that it may not be completely immune. You may occasionally hear the cheerful pitter-patter of our dogs, yard work, etc.
•GETTING AROUND•
Unlike a lot of remote properties out here, a car is able to make it to the suite just fine. The driveway is gravel and around 1/4 mile long, and the incline is minor and spread out. No need for 4x4 or all wheel drive. The road to the house is paved, and there is only one turn once off the interstate.
