Wonderful all Year Round. Easy access off Poudre Canyon Road. Book today!

Beautifully Wild is Unique, Classy & Interesting. The activity & appreciation of the Poudre Canyon never ends, just changes from season to season. Easy access year-round allows for a quick weekend away that feels like a full vacation!
Don't miss the chance to be refreshed by clean mountain air! The road's curves remind of the importance of slowing down & enjoying the ride! Your stay will be memorable and unique.
Pack a picnic, drive to the Continental Divide, fish, visit a crystal-clear lake & love the Rocky Mountains! Drive a dirt road, take a hike (none will disappoint) & get away from it all! Or do nothing & simply catch up on rest, reading & peace & quiet. Earthy tones of the cabin will soak you in! In case you don't think you have a reason to visit, we'll share a few:
• Winter stays are magical, quiet and warm indoors. Plenty of nearby outdoor options including snow shoeing, hiking, ice fishing, stargazing, and more.
* Spring & Summer rafting, star-gazing & outdoor events
• Honeymoon/romantic get-away!
• Christmas Tree cutting nearby
• Flyfish choice waters (license required)
• Peace-of-mind / recharging retreat
• Family time!
• Perfect addition to your Steamboat trip!
• No matter what you love to do, we guarantee there is something for you.
The cabin is not a party place & due to county occupancy regs, we can only have four (4) guests which also helps keep it so nice.
Located at mile marker 90 this private home offers two lovely bedrooms with darkening shades. Open floorplan with so much to see. Loft for reading, games, playing an instrument and to get a good close look at local wildlife displayed with thoughtfulness and tact.
Spacious and beautiful home with personal, special & meaningful touches. John & Liz (owners) built the cabin in 2007 and we love being able to share this treasured building and space with others. Amazing stone work & locally hunted mounts (no touching).
May you find The Poudre Canyon to be an incredible area to visit again & again.
A few little things that can turn into big things so here are some helpful notes/hints:
• First Thing! Water pump must be turned on/off upon arrival/departure. Flip two marked switches in the breaker box (back right bdrm), wait 10 minutes (hear the system process) before running any water. Shut off before leaving.
• Water - We provide large jugs of water for drinking/cooking. You may also wish to purchase bottled water as the cabin is on a well. Full water treatment system, yet we opt NOT to drink the water. Showering, cleaning dishes & laundry are fine. New well coming in 2025!
• Altitude, Hydration & Preparedness – High altitude 7200’. CO air is dry & altitude sickness is real so please adjust slowly & be aware of your fluid intake. Prepare for all types of weather. Water, snacks, rain gear, layered clothing, good socks & shoes (hiking boots) & basic survival kit are vital. Even if it looks nice, CO weather is ever-changing. Hypothermia & lightning are serious. Watch weather forecasts.
• Frig - Water & ice maker are not set up in the refrigerator due to the variations in water. Ice is available at the local convenience shops.
• Water heater - On-demand, don't change main temp.
• Washer (clothes) - press power & wait for light to turn on.
• Dryer - please remove lint after each use.
• Coffee - Standard maker & grinder available. Empty grounds in garbage; never down the sink! Remember to use bottled water. A bit of coffee may be available but best to buy coffee in town! Keurig machine available (stored in hall closet).
• Dishwasher - Please run the dishwasher at least 4 hours before departing, as it will not finish once the water pump is turned off. Please do not overload. We know that spotting may occur. Detergent is provided.
• Garbage disposal - only allow minimal items to go down the drain, even with the disposal. Please put everything, including all food items in the garbage. Do NOT put any grease down the drain. Please let grease/oils solidify and then add to the garbage. Run disposal with water.
• Septic - pee, poo, TP only in toilets. Wipes, baby and female products must be disposed of in the trash. Clogs may add extra charges.
• Un-plug small appliances (toaster, coffee maker/grinder, floor lamps, etc.) before you leave.
• Shower - glass MUST be squeegeed after each use. Simply 4 stripes down will do it. Very difficult to clean once the spots dry!
• A/C installed 2024 to save the windows from damage – Unfortunately some windows open well, but some have troubles, so please be gentle with them, only opening to the point that they allow, and do not attempt to open the ones marked 'do not open'. For your safety (and ours), please close them at night and also when leaving the house. One of the entries has a storm door with a screen, which can be used to allow airflow and still keep the critters out. It works well to have a window on the other side of the house open a bit at the same time... or just use the A/C.
• Heater - the heat will be adjusted to a moderate temperature prior to your arrival. Note that heat rises, so sometimes the loft can be pretty warm while the main floor bedrooms will be cool. You may turn the thermostat fan to 'on' to add to the airflow. Please also use the ceiling and floor fans as necessary.
• Garbage - Do not leave garbage (or coolers or any food) outdoors as you will attract bears which will cause problems. Guests of the home can use the dumpster up the road - - on the left before you get to Archers you will see a driveway to a house with a red roof that has a graffiti painted dumpster. This is for guest use only and it’s bear-proofed. Please do not leave garbage in the home when you check out.
• Dirty linens/bedding – It’s so nice when guests strip the beds and leave the sheets piled by the washer. In respect to the environment, septic system, time for cleaning, etc. please only dirty what you truly need to use. Bath & kitchen towels are best left hanging so they can dry rather than piling them up.
• Staying in contact with the rest of the world (if necessary): * Phone - there is no phone provided at the home. Verizon customers seem to do best. Wi-Fi is available which offers several options including Facebook calling, etc. (please explore prior to your trip). Pay phones are available up and down the road * WiFi available - code provided when rented. Remember your laptop, and also camera, binoculars & outdoor equipment. * TV - Roku & DVD player available for your use while resting on the really cozy couch! Movies and games are in the back hall closet.
• Emergencies - 911 will connect you with local volunteer responders. The nearest hospital is Poudre Valley Hospital in Fort Collins. Ambulance and helicopter response is available as necessary thru 911. If phones do not work, run up canyon to convenience shop as many community members are EMTs. Or visit the fire station (less than 2 miles up the road).
• Shopping - you will want to do your primary shopping in Fort Collins prior to your trip up the canyon. There are a few convenience/gift/restaurant type stores within a few miles of the cabin, but the selection is quite limited, pre-packaged food, and prices may be higher. Visit each to get a feel for the canyon and gather resourceful information. There is a lot of history and pride related to The Poudre Canyon. Local events take place fairly often, so check online sources or in-person at Archers or Glen Echo for information. Things you will want to purchase in Fort Collins: * a full tank of gas*, food - for the time you'll be there (spices and some baking & cooking basics are provided),*wine/beer - if you prefer a certain type, you will wish to buy this before going up the canyon as there is only a small liquor closet at Archers (may or may not be open due to change in ownership).* bottled water* coffee & creamer* sunscreen & mosquito spray* ice (available at the stores in the canyon) -diesel is not available in the area
• Items that are currently off limits due to county rules & liability issues (fire, drowning, etc): Wood stove - currently not for guests use. Hot tub - currently empty & not for guests use. * Any unauthorized use will result in additional charges to clean/fix issues.
• Critters – Things we pay to keep away include mice, spiders, pack-rats and other small creepy-crawlies. Seasonal changes drive them inward so please help by shutting the main doors and keeping the place clean and tidy.
• Cleaning fee - the cleaning fee may seem high so we'd like to explain that this location has limited resources for doing laundry quickly, plus there are only so many locals available to assist with cleaning. Please help keep costs down by maintaining your surroundings each day and limiting the use of bedding, towels, etc. PLEASE also help us stop the spread of germs by cleaning up after yourself, washing your hands and limiting the items you touch. The less we must do after your visit means the better chance we'll stay healthy too. We genuinely appreciate your understanding and assistance. Many thanks.
• Communication – we’re all about it.
• Hunters – You must disclose if you plan to use the cabin as a base for your hunting adventures and you will need to agree to a few simple things. More info provided through this site.
We may have forgotten a few things, so please just ask if you have questions. We would rather have you enjoy your vacation than cause yourself headaches trying to figure something out. Also, damage occurs when people take risks, so if you question your actions, just stop, and call us for details, approval, etc. We really do not mind being contacted while the issue is happening, rather than dealing with problems later.
Enjoy, celebrate, relax, adventure, and remember to share your memories through AirBnB, VRBO, or other feeds, plus a handwritten note in our guest book is always a bonus! Thank you.
- Liz & John

Beautiful, lots of animal mounts
This house is absolutely lovely. The main living area has windows on three sides, and you can see and hear the river when you are on the wrap around porch/deck. The kitchen is well stocked, and I just cannot overstate how lovely the main living area is. So beautiful and relaxing. Note that there are a lot of animal mounts--elk, antelope, cougar, bobcat, bear, goat, etc. I knew there were some--the listing mentions and shows them-- but I was overwhelmed at how many there were and wasn't crazy about it. Just a heads up.

Relaxing get away
The house was a great place to relax for a week long get away. It had everything we needed and Liz did a great job of communicating with us and taking care of anything we needed. We took advantage of the good hiking trails close by and explored the area. We also spent a couple days just relaxing at the house. The porch was a great spot for morning coffee and tea or a late afternoon drink. We’d definitely stay here again when we’re in the area.

This space was absolutely perfect for us…. location, size, privacy, and so much beauty surrounding you. Listening to and playing in the river, hiking most days, lunches at The Mish watching hummingbirds over the water. Perfect. Hopefully we’ll find our way back to this special place.

Transformational Retreat
We've stayed at Liz and John's cabin in Rustic numerous times. Each time we visit its as if all of our burdens, stressors, and worries just melt away. We have the opportunity to bond as a couple while enjoying the comfortable space and relaxing atmosphere. Our favorite things to do are to turn on some music, cook an indulgent meal, drink a cocktail, play a game of yatzee, sit on the porch in the sun, sleep late, and of course, talk. The open kitchen and huge island make cooking so much more fun than anywhere else! During this last visit we journeyed up to the Shambhala Center in Red Feather, walked the grounds, and met some amazing travelers. On previous visits we've hiked Mt. McConnell, visited the Mishawaka for lunch, and scoped out new camping spots. I would recommend this retreat to anyone who needs to reset and relax! We feel spoiled and very grateful for the opportunity to spend time in Rustic at Liz and Joh's cabin!

Great House / Great Location - Amazing Poudre Canyon
This a great house in a great location! It is very comfortable, beautifully decorated with western motif, and a short walk from the beautiful Cache la Poudre River - a gorgeous mountain river. Poudre Canyon is an absolutely wonderful place, an unknown American gem! It is loaded with amazing hiking trails - the Big South, Niota Creek, and Lake Agnes trails are truly amazing among many other great trails. I strongly recommend staying at this house and enjoying this beautiful canyon.

Perfect cabin in the canyon
Amazing place. Come here to get away. Great base for areas north of RMNP. Poudre Canyon doesn’t disappoint. Well stocked and two local country stores very close for some things. Top shelf accommodations. Lots of local history and hunting reading available. Along with all manner of maps and information. Red Feather Lakes is really cute area too and great horseback riding. Approach road to Agnes Lake hike is borderline 4WD in good weather. But gorgeous hike. Moose at Cameron Pass. Great place beautiful area. Couldn’t ask for a more communicative and friendly host when/if needed.

Beautiful Colorado Mountain Retreat
We rented this beautiful mountain house as a two night weekend stay-over for our son's birthday. This unique retreat is jaw-dropping upon entry into the spacious living room and continues to reveal wonderful Colorado mountain splendors from the kitchen, the bedrooms, and into the huge loft. We found the kitchen to be well stocked with plenty of seating space around the island and the dining table. The sunrise through the stain glass windows was a must see each morning while sipping my coffee. Fly fishing access was just across the road within walking distance. Our two days were spent as a family playing board games, watching movies, hiking, fishing, and exploring the area. The fastest two days of relaxation. We will definitely rent this cabin again.
