Escape to cozy, secluded lakefront cabin in the north woods

If you are looking for an escape for your family or a romantic getaway with your partner, to a secluded, cozy cabin on a beautiful northern lake, Thieves Den is waiting for you. Recently this cabin has been totally renovated from top to bottom, with new exteriors, interiors, windows, electrical, furnishings and appliances but with all the charm of the north woods.
The cabin is part of a compound of 4 family cabins on 40 acres set in the heart of the Chippewa National Forest. Our family has made memories here for 75 years and five generations. We have renovated each cabin to be charming and comfortable for the family members who use them. To help with the expenses we have decided to rent out two of the cabins when we are not using them. We will treat you as family and hope that you do the same for us.
This cabin is located on Round Lake, up on a bank, with great views of the lake from most of the cabin. Steps from your front door is 1000 feet of private sandy beach on a great swimming-fishing-boating lake. The sand bottom drops off very gradually, making it ideal for kids to swim safely. Round Lake is known for its great fishing, with a variety of species including walleyes, northerns, perch and panfish.
Enjoy the spectacular sunsets, star-filled skies and sometimes northern lights from our private dock. We provide 2 canoes, 2 kayaks and 2 paddleboards for our guests to use. We will give you info on renting a fishing boat on the lake or you can bring your own boat and moor it in front of our beach. Lounge, grille or picnic on your private patio. Make s’mores or hot dogs on a fire in the lakeside fire pit.
The small but efficient two-bedroom layout is perfect for a family of 5 or two couples. There is a new queen size bed in one bedroom and a new single over double bunk bed in the second bedroom. The 6-person antique table is a great place for meals and games or card playing. The cabin is set up to provide for all your needs: high speed 250 mg direct connect internet, wifi, smart television, ¾ bathroom, well supplied kitchen, linens and towels. Upon reservation confirmation, we’ll send you a detailed list of all we provide.
The seclusion of our cabins offers an ideal habitat for a variety of birds and animals. You are likely to see loons, pelicans, eagles, various ducks and geese, hummingbirds at the feeder by your cabin, deer and occasionally the fox after whom the cabin is named.
Our location in the National Forest gives you great hiking and biking trails within minutes of the cabin. You will enjoy the good casual restaurants and towns nearby. We will provide a notebook for your use with suggested activities in the area.
Judy lives at the cabins during the season and will be happy to assist you with anything you need.
Smoking, hunting, shooting and pets are prohibited.
Please don’t hesitate to contact Judy with any questions you may have. Check out our listing for Kingfisher cabin for a slightly different cabin layout with more amenities for children..

Sweet Secluded Stay
Our trip to Julian’s Cabin was amazing. We stayed on the Thieves’ Den. The beach was perfect for my kids with a very shallow entry. We took the canoes out for a bit as well. My children turned into fish during the week when we weren’t exploring the surrounding trails. Judy is an excellent host. The cabin is complete with everything you possibly could need and Judy is just one cabin over if you ever have a problem or question. While the cabin itself is small, there is plenty of outdoor space and honestly, you're not going to want to spend your time indoors when the lake, the two decks, the patio, and plenty of shady green space is beckoning. You really feel like you a part of nature. We saw plenty of deer along the roadsides and my kids had a fantastic time watching the red squirrels eat acorns. If you want a quiet stay with plenty of nature this is the place to book. You are within 30-60 minute drives of plenty of hiking and other points of interest. We explored everywhere and still found ourselves eager to get back to the cabin to enjoy the space.

Secluded clean cabins on Round Lake
Perfect clean secluded cabins on Round Lake! This was a great spot to relax and enjoy the lake views and outdoors! Perfect size for a small family of 4-5. Everything was as described on the listing description. Judy is the host and lives in a cabin next door. She was amazing and very kind and responsive. She did not intrude our stay at all and was available if we needed anything! Complimentary bottle of wine and smores stuff was included as well!

Very Cozy
The cabin was clean and cozy and perfect for us. Had everything needed to cook all our meals. Very peaceful setting. We used the canoes, kayaks, and paddleboards. We didn’t have a campfire but everything was ready to go for it. Plenty of outdoor furniture to sit and relax. Judy was a great host. She greeted us upon checkin and checked in with us throughout our stay. I would definitely stay again if back in the area.

Amazing property
We absolutely loved staying at Judy's place, she was very responsive, and the place was wonderful. We stayed in thieves' den which is right on the lake. We used the kayaks and canoe that were provided, which was amazing to see the lake. We could fish right of the dock that was there and caught some sunny, bass, and perch. It had air conditioning and fans provided. We will definitely return. This property is secluded and serine.

Clean, cozy, and great location
The cabin was perfect for our stay. It was clean, comfortable, and well appointed. We brought our side by side and was able to leave from the cabin each day and hit trails in all directions. In three days we put in 275 miles. Judy was great and was very welcoming when we got there. She had all kinds of trail maps available for us. If we are in the area again, we would definitely stay here.

Forest Retreat
Beautiful setting to unwind and relax! A perfect place to recharge. We enjoyed beautiful sunsets on the lake, as well as kayaking, canoeing and paddle boarding. (All water equipment provided by our host, Judy - just bring your own life jacket). The cabin had everything needed for food prep and cooking. Very clean and well decorated-very comfortable cabin. Another highlight was all the wildlife we observed from soaring eagles, loon chorus in the evenings, duck family on the shore front, a little brown weasel, a parade of pelicans with their babies, a great blue heron catching fish, as well as a sandpiper…and more! Truly a wildlife paradise 😊 Upon arrival there is a bottle of wine to enjoy and all the ingredients for s’mores which we enjoyed around the lakefront fire pit! Judy was a delight to visit with and helpful as a resource for the area. We stayed in late July - I’m sure the fall would be breathtaking!!!

What a perfect northwoods cabin!
We returned again - during same exact calendar week in 2021 - for 2022. The lake was at full water level and trees were in gorgeous fall foliage. Bald eagles, belted-kingfishers, great-blue herons, pilated-woodpeckers, golden-crowned-kinglets, goldeneye ducks - visited every day at the lake. Sunsets are spectacular - especially from the vantage point of a kayak - or the dock. Such a cozy, clean perfect cabin. We enjoyed homemade Beef bourguignon Stew while sitting lakeside by a roaring campfire. Watched the moons around Jupiter using binoculares one night - the skies were so clear. Such a lovely place to visit.

Thank you so much - such a wonderful cabin. We rented both cabins for our family. We had everything we needed. The cabins were fully stocked with all necessities. Plus canoes, kayaks and paddle boards were a bonus! Both cabins were very clean and orderly. Wonderful communication from the owners. We would definitely go back !

Relaxing
The property is beautiful and quiet. The cabin is almost brand new remodeled. The weather didn’t cooperate but we had board games to use thanks to Judy. We had hoped for more beach time but it didn’t pan out for us. We would recommend for anyone just wanting to have some beers/wine and watch the sunset, or paddle around the lake, or play some lawn games with family and friends.

Perfect!
For us, “Thieve’s Den” was absolutely perfect! The setting is quiet, serene and picturesque. The sunset view across the lake is superb. The cabin itself is well kitted and we enjoyed all of our home-cooked meals here - including one dinner at the roaring fire-pit on the beach. The autumn foliage added to the amazing beauty of the site. We went hiking, bicycling, birdwatching at all the nearby state parks and nature preserves - all within short driving distance. Round Lake itself is home to many species of birds including Bald Eagle, Northern Harrier, Pileated Woodpecker, Greater Yellow-legs, Wilson’s Snipe, and many, many more. Thanks Judy for being a gracious host!

Amazing cabin with everything you need!
Our stay at Judy's cabin was amazing! The lake is extremely low right now because of the statewide drought, but that didn't stop us from having loads of fun! The cabin is immaculate and every detail has been thought of. Everything you could think of is available in the kitchen, the linens and sheets are great quality, every room has blackout shades, and the craftsmanship of the cabin itself is wonderful. The cabin is located on land that offers time in the woods as well as time in the water. My kids loved exploring the woods, while my husband and I spent more time in the water. Judy also has made lots of fun things available outside. There's a fire pit, outdoor games like bean bag toss and horseshoes, paddle boards and kayaks, and plenty of outdoor seating. I can't say enough good things about our stay! Highly recommend!
