Poultneys in the Dordogne
Posted Sep. 14, 2022 on HomeAwayA really well equipped and homely house with everything we needed. Kevin and Judith were ready to help at any time, and otherwise left us to our own devices. When there was a power cut after a storm Kevin kept us in touch with what was happening which was helpful. Such a beautiful location, and a great place for relaxing.

Wonderful family holiday
Posted Sep. 7, 2022 on HomeAwayWe were a family of eight - four children aged 8, 6, 4 and 20 months with their parents and grandparents. We stayed at the house during a very hot week in August. The accommodation was lovely. The top floor did become very hot, but fans were provided which alleviated this to some extent. We all made good use of the swimming pool, which was large enough for the children to practise their strokes. We also enjoyed using the piano. There were quite a few lovely ornaments and pieces of crockery which were vulnerable to the grasp of our toddler, but we put most of these out of reach and the rest behind a locked door. In August, there were armies of fierce mosquitoes around the garden, so please be sure to take plenty of insect repellent! Kevin and Judith were wonderful hosts. They were extremely helpful, providing stair gates for our toddler, but also very discreet, leaving us to enjoy the house, pool and garden without restriction. Thank you both for a truly wonderful week.

Thank you for your kind review James.
We too were bothered by mosquitos in August this year. It has been an unusually hot summer.
I understand that mosquitos have a flying range of approximately 200 metres of their hatching point and with the help of a neighbour I believe we have located the source. I think we have dealt with the problem.
We are grateful to you for the care you took of the farmhouse and we really enjoyed knowing that your young family learned to swim during their stay. With our best wishes to you and your family.

Much enjoyed this lovely property.
Posted Aug. 9, 2022 on HomeAwayExterior photos of the house need to be made current, it's not quite so nice nor well maintained. The barn/games room is a store for building materials.
The house is comfortable and clean, however the four large pantry shelves are totally filled with appliances and stuff so that there is no room for eight peoples food; the kitchen drawers are full with stuff too.
As my wife and daughter commented "this house needs editing". I'm aware that tastes differ but there is an awful lot of stuff impacting on important functional space.
The patio space for evening dining is lovely. The pool area is super, the gazebo a vital amenity for the fair skinned.
Everyone in our party enjoyed staying here.

It is always interesting to read a review where the reviewer feels empowered to take on the role with gusto. I would point out that the 'games room' is not a 'games room' but it actually is , as you identified a building store. It also contains garden games and bicycles available to guests. We do not advertise a 'games room'.
I do hope you found the cupboards in the kitchen, they really do contain adequate storage for foods as do the refrigerator and freezer available there. The house is unusually well equipped , as commented upon by most guests, it is, however, most unusual for guests to regard that as a disadvantage. As to the photographs advertising the property, I entirely agree, they do not do the house justice. Your review made me look again at the pictures used and I noted that the gardens featured have matured significantly since the pictures were taken. I will change them in the coming days. We are glad that you enjoyed your stay and thank you for your comments.

Blissful!
Posted Oct. 1, 2018 on HomeAwayBeautifully set out farmhouse with All our needs more than satisfied. The whole place was immaculate. The swimming pool was the best that we have ever encountered being exceptionally clean and warm.
Kevin and Judith were wonderful hosts, always available without being intrusive.
There were lots of interesting places to visit . None more so than Martel and Beaulieu-sur-Dordogne. Both have wonderful restaurants and have interesting histories.
We would all love to return to the area as there is so much more to see. Needless to say this farmhouse would be number one choice.

Thank you for your kind review Keith! You have been delightful guests indeed. You kept up to date with questions which we were more than happy to answer and arrived with some understanding of what the region had to offer. We are also very pleased that the ‘lovely weather in September’ turned out to be true. We really would enjoy you coming again and will try to find another good restaurant though St Anne’s is still our favorite thus far. It was good to meet you all and we wish you a pleasant and safe journey home and hope to see you again one day.

Great Experience
Posted May 7, 2018 on HomeAwayWe had a great time, there were two couples so each had a floor to ourselves. The living space and kitchen are on the ground level and very well appointed. Good location to explore Dordogne sites. Weather was too cold to use the pool but it was very impressive. Overall, a great find.

Thanks Mike for the review. So sad to have missed you on the morning of your departure and equally very disappointed with the weather which was the biggest downpour we have experienced over 4 days in the 11 years we have lived here. You were great guests. We enjoyed your enthusiasm regarding your travels in France and tales of life in your home regions. We are also extremely appreciative of the immaculate state of cleanliness and the left over food especially the bottles of wine, one of which we have consumed as an apero tonight as it is 7-30 and still very hot outside! If ever you wish to visit again you would certainly be most welcome and please spread the word about the place to any interested parties. We have enjoyed our American guests thus far! Enjoy the summer and safe journey back if you are still touring.

A great base for a family holiday
Posted Aug. 22, 2016 on HomeAwayThe O'Connells' traditional stone house down a quiet, rural country road, with its lovely pool in pretty gardens, is a fantastic base for a family holiday. Set over three floors, the accommodation is generous, flexible and well-proportioned. The first floor incorporates a quiet sitting room with piano, a master double bedroom with ensuite bathroom, and a second double bedroom served by the ensuite. The top floor has a double bedroom, a family bathroom and a small twin room (suitable for young children/cots), while two full size single beds are located on the large landing. The enormous kitchen/living room which occupies the entire ground floor leads out onto a comfortable dining/BBQ terrace and gardens and up to the pool, which is far enough away from the house to ensure that noise is kept to a minimum, but easily accessible. Everything you could need is in the house - it is incredibly well stocked with equipment, china, towels, linen, two big fridges, a larder, utility room, books, toys, games etc. Judith and Kevin are incredible hosts - nothing is too much trouble and they made us feel so very welcome. They live just across the courtyard, so they are at hand to help with anything or to give advice about local excursions, restaurants, etc, but they don't intrude in any way. There are several villages and a larger town within minutes' drive, so easy to get provisions and find local markets and restaurants. Lovely country walks through walnut groves. We loved it - the children in our party children said it was the best holiday they had ever had, and they've had plenty! The photos just don't do this lovely house justice.

Thank you for a very positive review. We enjoyed having you stay in our home and seeing the children enjoying themselves. We are flattered too by you trying out some of the suggestions for eateries and places of interest. We think it is a lovely, pretty unknown area of France, very verdant and very historic. We love living here and are particularly enjoy our new role as ambassadors for the area with our little rental business. Your family and extended family and friends were delightful company and thank you for leaving the place in good order. We would most certainly welcome you on a return visit. Meanwhile enjoy the West Country and any Indian summer.

Spot On!
Posted Aug. 18, 2016 on HomeAwayIn short, we wish we were still there!
The house is perfectly set up with large, open plan, ground floor living space so even with everyone inside you don't feel like you are on top of each other. The house is really well equipped with pretty much everything you would need. The house is comfortable and remarkably cool even on the hottest days. The layout of the rooms means that everyone is well spread throughout the house with the top floor being a perfect, self contained refuge for the kids. The real bonus, however, is the outside space. The gardens are very lush and well tended and the patio area directly from the kitchen makes breakfast time outdoors extremely easy. The pool area for us was the best part of the house and the little considered details really went a long way - the tiles around the pool, for example, are smooth and because they are light don't get too hot in the sun, the large covered table makes dining together at any time of day a treat. The multitude of games and inflatables kept the kids entertained and the fridge by the pool is more useful than you might you think! there are plenty of parasols too meaning that you can easily escape from the sun. Kevin and Judith have obviously really thought about the things that go towards making a great holiday home.
The house aside, we loved the area and would definitely recommend visiting the monkey park (adults and kids loved it), Beaulieu is very pretty and perfect for an evening meal in the square, the little bar 'Porquoi Non?' in Flioriac is in a lovely, quiet spot and does great crepes and a huge selection of speciality beers and (although a 30 minute drive) Martel is well worth a visit and a meal in the square (you need to book in advance though). The whole area is just so pretty and there is more than enough nearby to keep everyone entertained.
Finally, just wanted to say thank you to Kevin and Judith for being such generous and accommodating hosts. Even before we arrived they kept in touch regularly to ask if there was anything we needed them to provide specifically, and during our stay they were on hand whenever we needed, without being at all intrusive.
We would definitely book again as the house and surroundings seemed to tick so many crucial holiday boxes

Thank you for your generous comments James and thank you for taking the time to make them. It is always a pleasure to read a good review but it is not as pleasing as the good feeling that people enjoyed their time at The Farmhouse. We know how important it is that families enjoy their time together on holiday. So much personal commitment goes into the annual holiday that it just has to be a good time for all. Thank you also for leaving the house in such good condition, you will always be welcome here. One minor correction though, the bar in Floriac is the ' Pourquoi Pas ? ' and I agree with you, it serves some excellent beer. In fact, who cares about the name, I am tempted to pay a visit right now for a pint of Vedette. Thank you James, hope to hear from you again.

A Jewel in the Dordogne
Posted Jul. 24, 2016 on HomeAwayA fabulous farmhouse set in a beautiful rural location. Judy and Kevin gave us the tour when we arrived and our first impression was a WOW.
We spent our days lounging around the large heated area which provided plenty of facilities such as, table tennis, loungers, a shady seating area and a fridge which is a nice touch (considering we had hot sunny weather).
We explored some of the local villages, my personnel favourite was Rocamadour slightly touristy but spectacular medieval architecture.
We all felt like we only touched the surface of things to do and explore and agreed that we should return to Judy and Kevin’s wonderful farmhouse in the near future.
Lastly Judy and Kevin where the perfect host, very willing to give advice, directions and anything else that came to mind, thanks for a wonderful stay.

Thank you Lynne for your very positive review, very much appreciated. We enjoyed meeting you and your family during the week and are pleased that you found lots of interesting places around. I didn't see you after your meal at St Anne's in Martel, did it live up to our recommendations? We hope so as last weeks guests went there too...perhaps I should be on commission! Have a pleasant summer in the UK and we hope to welcome you again some day.
