Secluded & Cosy Yurt in the Forest of Dean

Everything you need for a peaceful stay right on the south east edge of the Forest of Dean. Cut into the hillside, the yurt has an extremely comfortable double bed and a pull out sofa double bed, with clean wood flooring and upcycled furniture. A wood burner provides heat on chilly nights. You have sole use of a modern rustic shower room and flushing loo, kitchenette with all of the essentials, outdoor eating shelter, and campfire area.
We love it here, and we hope you will too.

The space
The yurt is built into a steep hillside on a raised decking platform between the trees, with steps up to the door and views of rolling countryside.

A modern bathroom with hot water, shower, and flushing loo are 20 meters from the yurt, which is private for your sole use for the duration of your stay (as are all of the facilities described here). The small kitchenette also has a washing up sink, hot water, a kettle, toaster, and kitchen essentials. There is an outdoor cooking area with a campfire grill for BBQ or campfire cooking, and a separate covered seating area with a camping electric oven and hob.

The yurt is situated in a private corner of an old Forest smallholding, a three quarter acre site, and is completely self contained and private as you cannot see our house from the yurt and the facilities are yours alone, and is not overlooked by any other properties. We are happy for guests to use the garden and feel at home while being safely socially distanced.

Guest access
You will have a dedicated parking space a short walk from the yurt (approx 40 meters along uneven hillside paths), and there is a large garden area to enjoy.

We are in a quiet hamlet a mile from the nearest village, and from the yurt you can walk directly on forestry tracks into the Forest of Dean. All the forest has to offer is a walk or short drive away.

The bus stops anywhere you flag it down at the bottom of the hill (2 minute walk from the yurt).

Other things to note
We welcome guests bringing their own bedding for environmental reasons, but if you'd like bedding just let us know when booking and we can provide that.

COVID Security
We will be operating a socially distanced check in or self check in. You will have your own parking bay for one car with separate gate, and guest areas are completely private to you for the duration of your stay. Sanitising hand wash, sanitising spray, and cleaning cloths will be available in the kitchen and bathroom areas.

For safety, we ask that guests do not go into the storage sheds or fenced vegetable garden.

Hilly site
The yurt is on a steep hillside. There are steps into the yurt and please be aware that the terrain may be challenging if you have difficulty getting around.
Access by car is on a steep forestry track.

Autumn/Winter
The yurt is very cosy with the woodburner on but it is outside, and it is a yurt! You will need to venture out to walk to the bathroom or use the cooking facilities.

An escape from it all ❤️
Debbora is an amazing host - fantastic communication and she has thought of so many things to ensure your stay is perfect and comfortable. As others have said, all you really need is your personal belongings. I booked this location as I was looking for a retreat from the demands of daily life and it did not disappoint. I loved stepping out of the yurt to the rolling hills and sunrise. Just sitting enjoying a brew whilst soaking in all my beautiful surroundings and listening to the different creatures that surrounded us. It was pure bliss for me and my partner - sadly not the same for our teenagers who live for connectivity on their phones as the signal is extremely patchy round there (I personally thought it was a good thing). We built up a good relationship with the chickens and gave them all nicknames quite early on- they were incredibly tame and a good distraction from our own animals. There is an outdoor undercover dining area with fantastic camping gas cooker/hob so you can create meals if you wish as well as the outdoor fire pit (due to the severe drought we didn’t use this as we didn’t want to risk causing a forest fire). The bathroom was very spacious with a welcomed walk in shower with instant hot water. The Yurt itself was rather spacious, quaint and cosey with plenty of lanterns but we added some solar lights to give a bit of assistance for the night time visits. The village of Blakeney was about a mile away and we walked their a couple of times but be warned this area is incredibly hilly 😊 it’s certainly a good cardio workout around this area. It’s such a picturesque place with so much on your doorstep to chose from - from shopping to sight seeing. We used the local transportation quite a bit with no issues. Personally I would love to return but our teenagers disagree with my love of nature and peace.

Beautiful yurt and location!
We had a couple of nights at the cosy yurt and thoroughly enjoyed it. With no wifi or mobile signal, it was a welcome break for this family and we sat around the outdoor firepit of an evening, bbq-ing and hanging out. Kids loved the hammock, and the nearby forest had a great ropeswing, enjoyed by all of us! Debbora was very helpful and communicative during booking and met us shortly after we arrived, to say hello, and then left us to it. The woodburner is very efficient and I might have gotten a bit carried away one night, when we had to leave the front door open as it was very warm, so no worries about being too cold! Debbora set up a fireguard around the woodburner as well, for child safety. Definitely recommend this as a base for exploring the Forest of Dean and for disconnecting from work and technology.
