The Guesthouse is situated near the lake with great surroundings. The check in process is quick and the guest room is clean. The staffs we met are very friendly. The continental breakfast is decent for the price. The issues to us were 1) the shared shower rooms and bathrooms; 2) noise from next door. It looks there are only one shower for male and two for female for the entire second floor of more that 20 plus guest rooms. We feel these bathrooms and showrooms are least clean ones we encountered in Iceland. The property is a conversion of a historical building and was not fully sound proof, so you can hear what the noise from next door.
Staff here were excellent. The property is cute, they’ve kept a lot of the historical elements. Room was small but adequate. The onsite restaurant was good (there are not many options in this small of a town). Breakfast was oatmeal, cereals, cold meats and cheeses, fruit and vegetables. And pancakes. Very walkable to the Fontana hot springs. Easy access point for the golden circle also.
A striking building on a large property with a beautiful lake view. Parking and check in was super easy. The shared bathrooms were well maintained and not too hard to find a free shower or toilet. Rooms were huge but the artwork is vintage and could be unsettling for some. Our rooms had an embroidered clown wall hanging… This was a great stay for my group as it was close enough to popular attractions.
So cute. Love that I could walk to Laugarvatn Fontana (there's a discount if you say you are staying at the guesthouse), had a beautiful view of the lake, and the restaurant Was pretty good. Really enjoyed my stay here.
This guesthouse is an interesting use of an old schoolhouse in an area of Iceland with only a few other options. We found it a great stopover, and it has a relationship with the neighboring Fontana baths, a developed hot spring facility.

False Advertising
The place was fine, but it was not as advertised. We ended up having to leave a day early as a result. Do not trust the pictures.
This hotel is also a youth hostel on the ground floor, so there was lots of great energy during meals and in the common areas. Our rooms were comfortable and decorated in the style of an old school- we had a chemistry book on the wall! Delicious meals and warm hospitality as well as a location 1 minute from a great geothermal spa made this first stop on our vacation a favorite. We stayed two nights and enjoyed every minute of our time. The pool table in the basement was a favorite spot.
