The staff were extremely helpful and courteous, and the hotel was conveniently located in the central part of town. The restaurant recommendations from the staff were spot on.
Staff is excellent. The single comfort rooms were perfect for friends travelling together but wanting separate rooms. The location was perfect. It’s right by the Grand Theatre and also across from the tram stops. Highly recommend Hotel Normandie!
The Hotel de Normandie is in the best possible spot in Bordeaux. It is a block away from the best shopping streets and a couple of blocks away from five excellent restaurants. We had a nice room with a balcony where we could enjoy the balmy nights and sunny mornings on the sixth floor. There was a separate toilet which we appreciated but the shower was over the bath which can be slippery and I needed to be careful. Breakfast was good with a range of pastries and cheese. Eggs were cooked to order. The view from the balcony was of the trees around the tram hub and on to the river Garonne, with the spectacular fountain commemorating the Girondins to the left. You can catch a tram just across the street from the hotel to anywhere in the city , tickets are €1.50 for an hour and it’s a lovely way to get around when you tire of walking. Bordeaux has beautiful stone buildings, churches and museums. We stayed 9 nights and there was plenty to enjoy. We recommend Brasserie 1925 opposite the Girondin fountain and Bistro Big off the main shopping street as excellent both for food and charm.
A VIP hotel on this site but not sure why? It’s not a bad hotel but there was certainly nothing special about it, many more cheaper hotels on offer that are just as good if not better. Very dated decor & staff not particularly friendly.

I would have given the hotel five stars if I had a better check in. The guy checking me in acted like I was making up a free beverage as part of the VIP deal and when I asked him if I had to pay for drinks in the minibar, he said YES. So I bought my water for three days and at the check out found out that the minibar was free for me :(. The gentleman who helped me the most and was so kind and patient was Lyonnel! He gave me a few bottles of water after I checked out because he felt bad that I did not use the minibar. His recommendations for restaurants and places to see were top notch!
The location and staff at the Normandie were excellent but I'm afraid I couldn't really say that my experience lived up to the four stars on the wall by the entrance.
My room was not a four-star room. We all know that hotels only display the best aspects of the property, but on this occasion the difference between what was offered in the pictures when booking, to the reality, was rather misleading. It was cramped; the wardrobe was a kind of battleship grey, the door was a bluer shade of grey and the door to the bathroom (which itself was modern and stylish) was a sort of sickly cream that nevertheless went well with the tired wallpaper (the colour of which was a sort of off-nicotine). The floor sloped. I wouldn't put the breakfast as much more than adequate and I've certainly had better at lower-rated hotels.
One of the reasons I chose this place was because of its high rating. I caught a glimpse of the room next door and it was indeed light, modern and airy as promised. So maybe I had bad luck. But the hotel didn't appear to be full so I'm disappointed they ended up giving me such a poor room.
If I stayed again (and I wouldn't rule it out), I'd certainly enter into some kind of negotiation to make sure I wasn't allocated room 309 and wasn't going to end up feeling, frankly, a bit ripped off.

Nice hotel is great location with excellent and friendly staff. Very close to walking tours and main attractions and opposite the tram station which is a very cheap way to get to and from the airport.
