The only reason I gave 4 out of 5 stars for comfort and condition is that this hotel is more like the traditional family hotels we used to use (and prefer) than the slick chain hotels there are so much more of now. 5 stars might have given the wrong expectations of style and luxury, but we actually preferred this. And upgrading for just a few Euros to a room with a balcony was the best value of the holiday: the view of the Rhine was idyllic. The food was excellent, but don't expect traditional German, even though you're on the Rhine, because the owner/chef is Italian and so is the menu. It was easy to find, on the main road following the Rhine south of Koblenz, and with a room at the back we were protected from much of the road noise. The trains run all night across the main road, but that's true of virtually everywhere we stayed in Germany - it's such an industrious country. And I do mean industrious in the busy, hardworking sense, not industrial in the bleak, smoky sense. I would happily recommend this place for a stay of several nights: the Rhine views, the old town of Braubach across the road, beautiful Koblenz 15 minutes to the north, Rhine drives, boat trips.... and all that for a VERY reasonable B&B rate.
