The person who checked us in lacks customer service. Donā€™t expect someone who is over enthusiastic but a bit better personality would help. I donā€™t understand why they take the card to pre authorise the check in payment and when when you check out they take the card again. Surely if a card is pre authorised it just takes the payment. This is how it worked in all other hotels I have stayed at On leaving we were giving a validated car park ticket which was great but it didnā€™t work. And when I went back to ask about it the aptitude of the staff member was why am I asking this. The hotel itself is lovely; the room was stunning with coffee tea amenities supplied; the bathroom spacious although surprised that the shower itself has no shampoo or shower gel supplies which you would expect to see in a hotel of this standard. We didnā€™t use the bar area so canā€™t comment but the general cleanliness of the hotel was lovely and itā€™s situated in a perfect location for access to the main shopping area and night life.

Unfortunately an awful experience
Really bad experience. Long queue at check in. Suite was very dated, no working heating and extremely loud due to an organised party going on directly below (until 1am). Asked to change rooms and was told they were full (which wasnā€™t true as I did get a different room when I spoke to the manager), lady on reception was extremely rude and told me that the party is going on because they have to make money, she also took a personal call and went to the back room to scream loudly at what I assume was a family member. Was moved from the suite to a superior room (which was actually nicer than the suite). Location is good, but seriously awful service.

Good stay over all! Good location and a nice hotel. Heating in the room not working, it was cold. Told reception on the first morning, was told they would put a heater in, no heater provided.

Perfectly decent option for Bristol centre
I was a little perturbed but some of the recent reviews, but I had a perfectly good experience. My room was spacious and well equipped. Hotel parking was fine, if a little pricey for an overnight stay.

During storm Darragh - freezing cold weather & gale force wind, I paid over Ā£200 for a room with zero heat. Broken thermostat, a tiny radiator (that was pointless), and a super thin summer duvet. I called front desk around 6 times with no answer. I had to go down and see the front desk to ask for blankets and heat which were provided about an hour later. Even with these additions and being fully dressed (with socks on), I was absolutely freezing in bed. Iā€™ve subsequently developed a bad cold. In addition, the room smelled bad, had stains all over the carpet and a dirty bath. Hotel staff advised me to claim a refund via Expedia who I booked the room through. Iā€™ve contacted Expedia (over an hour in phone calls so far plus several emails), only for the hotel to delay their authorisation of my full refund. Update - after my third call to Expedia, the hotel are now refusing to refund the room even partially due to their ā€œno refund policy - no exceptionsā€. How lovely. So you can pay over Ā£200 for a freezing cold and dirty room and they are happy to take your money for it. Nice. Itā€™s a good job Iā€™m not elderly or immunocompromised, as that room would have finished me off otherwise. I have photos of the carpet/bath/ thermostat/radiator but no one seems bothered in seeing them. Who cares eh, ā€œno exceptionsā€. I did enjoy breakfast which I paid an additional Ā£17.95 for. I needed something substantial after the night of borderline hypothermia. Can someone please issue my refund.

The location is central but my room was very small and cold. The air conditioning unit didnā€™t heat up and the hotel had provided a small electric heater which gave off little heat. The carpets were worn and it was tatty No blankets to add an extra layer onto the bed. No mattress protector. Dialled front desk to enquire about heating but no response. I slept with pillows over the duvet to give an extra layer. In the morning the hairdryer stopped working half way through drying hair. Again no response from the front desk Definitely didnā€™t feel like good value for Ā£175 a night without breakfast.

There was nothing I didn't like, in fact the staff went above and beyond when they discovered it was my wedding anniversary! The location is very convenient for the street markets and great food. Convenient parking in a secured adjacent multi-storey located through a ticketed barrier to the left of the frontage.

Good location, good bathroom, but access with a vehicle for drop off/pick is horrendous (nothing like the photo provided as the road space in front of the hotel is owned by the Council and wardens pass by every 10 minutes), also floorboards creak like crazy and walls are poorly insulated. You can get better value elsewhere.

Room was tiny compared to my parents room I booked for the same price. Horrid view of a skip on the roof. No heating, there was a tiny electric heater that had been placed in the room that barley did anything, and clicked constantly. Bar downstairs is nice

Not as grand as the name suggests
A little disappointed with our stay, the hotel isn't as grand as the name suggests! The room was Ok, but a little tired and no plug by the kettle and tea tray. Breakfast is probably one of the worst we've experienced, poor choice, cold coffee, toaster not switched on and staff just hanging around.

Really disappointed that we didn't have any information regarding the difficulty in locating the hotel by car, once we entered the city. We spoke too several people, who had the same experience. After an hour of trying to get our room warm with the air conditioning, we were told by the receptionist that it wasn't working properly and were given a electric heater also the extractor in the bathroom didn't work. It's a real shame, because the Hotel itself is exceptional

Hotel staff were very unhelpful, no where to be found when trying to check in and very abrupt and unhelpful. Made me feel very un welcome for the minute I walked I the door. had to deal with a party going on in the room next to me all night on a wednesday evening. Wasn't the best but in a great location.

I was favourably impressed by the hotel staff. In particular, Ioan, one of the barman (an eclectic mix of East London and Wales) was very friendly and helpful even to the point of recommending a local restaurant, which lived up to his recommendation. The hotel is old and looks like it may need a touch of TLC to its exterior but everything worked well enough such as the lifts and the bathroom fixtures and fittings. Overall my experience was positive and I would stay there again.
