Hey! Youâve made it to The Cliffhouse where the locals describe as âthe best view in all of McCurtain County - period,â making it a very special place. There are no neighbors and you are secluded. Sounds awesome, right? But, please read the description in its entirety to ensure this special and unique place is for you!
Because of its location, not only will you avoid extra town taxes and fees upon booking, but The Cliffhouse also provides an incredible retreat from hustle and bustle of the big city. You get the best of both worlds! This 1,000 square foot cabin sits atop a mountain on 80 acres overlooking Broken Bow Lake. Being surrounded by 6,000 acres of National Forest and US Corp of Engineer land provides unparalleled hiking, mountain biking and bird watching right from your doorstep. The 600 square foot deck faces the lake and has incredible panoramic views.
The Cliffhouse is entirely off-grid. entirely off-grid. We produce our own power, water (well), hot water and have our own septic system. We are 100% green and still have all the luxuries of home! Because we are green; however, we do have to choose which luxuries we would like to have. In our efforts to conserve energy, we have decided to opt out of bath and hot tubs in all of our mountain cabins. We also have have a filter, but the well water has iron in it, so please bring bottled water if this makes you uncomfortable.
The Cliffhouse is on its own well, separate from the other three cabins, therefore, it does have a washer and dryer.
â Bedroom 1: Downstairs bedroom with a Queen bed
â Loft: A 350 square foot loft with breathtaking views overlooking the lake accessed via ships ladder with a Queen bed and Twin bed
â Bathroom 1: Full bathroom with a shower downstairs
â Bathroom 2: Half-bathroom downstairs
Note: While the ship's ladder leading to the loft adds to the charm and offers spectacular views, we ask guests to consider if this will pose challenges for their stay. There is also a bedroom downstairs.
đš We realize that this is where most like to stop reading, but we ask that you please scroll a little more to review the important information for the drive in and more! đš
âșâš DRIVE IN / ACCESS âš
The mountain cabins sit 5 miles off of Highway 259 and is accessed by US Forest Service roads. Itâs a beautiful drive and we oftentimes see white tail deer, turkey, and birds of prey including red tail hawks and various owls!
You will need a vehicle with some clearance as well as a bit of driving skill to make it in. 4WD and/or AWD is NOT necessary, but helpful.
âș We strongly suggest:
â a small, medium or large SUV
â any size truck
â a crossover
âș We strongly advise against:
â a minivan
â a sedan or coupe
The first 2 miles of the drive are easy and you can drive 25 mph. The remaining 3 miles are slower and requires some attention. You will cross 4 or 5 small creeks on the way in. Water is rarely more than 4 inches deep. The roads are rocky and bumpy, but will not ever be muddy.
There are also grades up to 12% on gravel roads. This means you will travel up the mountain until you have reached our mountain top.
Don't have a vehicle that meets the requirements, but still want to visit? We have partnered with Marc at Red Dirt Car Service and have several happy guests that have already used this transportation service! Please send an inquiry for more information.
âșâš TECHNOLOGY & CELL SERVICE âš
The Cliffhouse now has Starlinnk and there is cell phone service! Verizon and AT&T work best, while Sprint and T-Mobile are limited. There aren't any TVs or cable service. You will need to bring your own entertainment and pre-download your movies on your own device before arriving.

âșâš BOATS, TRAILERS & ATVs, oh my! âš
â Boats & Trailers: Please do not try to bring a boat up to any of our cabins on the mountain! You will likely regret it, we promise! đ All jokes aside, Beavers Bend Marina has slips that you can rent for your stay and itâs super convenient to leave your boat in the water. They can also provide a place to leave your trailer!
â ATVs: You can ride straight into the Ouachita National Forest from our property! Please check with the US Forest Service for all laws regarding ATV riding. Itâs possible for a group of riders to rack up several thousand dollars in fines.
Bear Creek Vacations will not be held responsible for any tickets, violations or accidents.
âșâš GRILL & FIRE âš
The grill is propane and directly wired into the house. Instead of a propane tank, you will see a timer. There is a fire pit. Please bring matches. Our cleaning service no longer provides firewood.
âșâš MAX OCCUPANCY âš
The Cliffhouse sleeps 5. Due to fire marshal regulations and insurance purposes, the number of guests per cabin is strictly enforced. Additionally, our off-grid systems cannot sustain more than the max number of guests.
âșâš PUP-FRIENDLY âš
Maximum of 2 dogs allowed. No cats. Pet Fee: $150 per stay. Please review house rules and pet policy prior to bringing your pets to avoid additional charges.
