Villa Harlequin - Six Bedroom Villa, Sleeps 14
An attractive 6-bedroom villa in the northern part of Croatian Istria, Villa Harlequin is located close to the local amenities of Brtonigla. Less than 10 minutes’ drive from the Aquapark Istralandia water-park, this stylish villa can accommodate up to 14 guests and features an impressive outdoor pool and terrace.
This villa has a large amount of outdoor space where you can enjoy the beauty of the Istrian peninsula. Soak up the reliable sunshine by the pool, where plenty of sun loungers and seating can be found. The cosy poolside lounge is a particularly nice spot to share drinks and nibbles in the evenings. You also have a barbecue and an outdoor dining area, plus another covered one elsewhere.
Inside, this modern villa has an attractive open-plan living area with more seating and dining space and direct access to the pool. Equipped with air-conditioning and a large flatscreen TV, it all leads through to a well-equipped kitchen with a dishwasher, microwave, coffee machine and everything else you could need. A central sweeping staircase is an eye-catching detail which takes you up to the beautiful bedrooms.
Each bedroom is elegantly furnished and supremely comfortable, with a double bed and en suite bathroom. Additional sofa-beds are provided in one bedroom and the living room. Some rooms also lead out to their private terrace, with all displaying immaculate design and attention to detail.
Brtonigla’s location is ideal for visiting popular coastal towns in the region such as Novigrad and Poreč, the first of these being just 12 minutes’ drive from Brtonigla. Also within a 30-40 minute drive are the Slovenian resorts of Portorož and Piran, as Brtonigla lies on a direct route to the nearby border, where the region of Istria continues.
Among the attractions on the Croatian side is Poreč’s Roman Old Town, home to the Episcopal complex of Euphrasian Basilica, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Quieter Novigrad is a charming place with a harbour full of fishermen and, not coincidentally, some excellent seafood restaurants.

Location:
An attractive small town around 8km inland, Brtonigla is home to rustic old buildings and some charming restaurants and cafés. It’s a great place to try some of the excellent food and drink that is produced in the region, with visits to wineries and local artisan producers worth checking out.
This bike-friendly town is well connected, with cycle paths leading to many of the surrounding towns and villages. This is a great way to admire the beauty of Istria. It won’t take too long to reach the coast and visit the likes of Mareda and Novigrad which lie to the south-west of Brtonigla.
Perhaps the main reason many people visit the area is the nearby presence of Aquapark Istralandia, considered to be one of the best water-parks in the whole of Europe – and, indeed, the world. The first of its kind in Croatia, it has maintained its reputation as the best in the land, so it’s a good bet for a family day out.
Around 12 minutes’ drive away, the pretty coastal town of Novigrad is well worth a visit. With its marina and fishing harbour, it’s a little quieter than many of the coast’s resorts, and it’s compact enough to get around most of it on foot. Some excellent restaurants and a regular gourmet food festival boost its reputation as a foodie centre.
The region as a whole has a great culinary reputation, so it’s worth trying the local cuisine. Look out for fish and seafood dishes, truffles and asparagus on the menus. The area’s wine is top-notch too, with wine-making an important part of Istria’s culture.
Around 35 minutes’ drive south of Brtonigla lies the town of Poreč, which attracts many visitors to its Roman Old Town, where you will find the Episcopal complex of Euphrasian Basilica, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The main road running north of Brtonigla will soon take you over the border with Slovenia, where the beautiful resorts of Portorož and Piran are certainly worth a visit, both less than 40 minutes away.
