About this property

1870 Farmhouse with modern amenities - Fire Pit - Picnic Area - Farm View

This cozy 1 bedroom 1 bath cottage was built in 1870 by William Butler Garrett then down to his great grandson, Dr. William E. Mitchel. The property was restored as originally built, log by log, by Garrett's great-great granddaughter & family. Logs were marked & moved & restored for the front room, exactly as it stood in 1870, adding the modern amenities.

Open floor plan front room features the living room with fireplace (available beginning Sept 15) & full furnished kitchen. Decorated in farmhouse fashion with the modern amenities for todays guests. Large bedroom has a queen bed. Full bath with tub/shower combination.

Nice large yard with firepit & picnic area overlooking a gorgeous farm setting surrounded by the mountains. The covered porch is the perfect place to take in the beauty of the area.

Close to downtown Bryson City while still being in a private setting with easy access. Perfect for a couples getaway.

Getaway
We were drawn to the house because of the history. The house was extremely clean and comfortable. We got to meet George and talk with her about the history of the house and some of the decor. We highly recommend this home.

Thanksgiving visit to Bryson City and Western NC
Beautiful rustic 1800s log home, with all the amenities one could needed, tucked away in a quiet holler. Views were just as advertised and enjoyed the goat farm duties from the front porch. Even got to meet the owner, which briefly explained the history of the home. If we have the opportunity to stay here again, hope she comes by for a visit. Could certainly listen to a longer version. If you’re in the area, and want a quiet place for 2, minutes away from downtown BC, you wont be disappointed.

Mitchell Family Cabin
This was our second trip to the MFC. My husband and I were both recovering from surgeries and decided it would be nice to recuperate away from home. We absolutely love the cabin and cannot wait for our next visit.

My adult daughter and I stayed at the Mitchell Cabin. We were conveniently located to Bryson City and Cherokee and we enjoyed our time there checking out some breweries, hiking the Waterfall Trail, and just relaxing in the cozy cabin. Perfect for 2 people!

Mitchell cabin
This cabin was just perfect for our 40th anniversary. Great ambiance. So many mountain cabins are deep in a hollow, and can be disconcerting for a flatlander, due to the lack of sunlight. But the Mitchell cabin sits on the edge of a cleared hollow, with a goat farm. So it is sunny, yet trees shade it. You can sit on the porch and watch the goats, and just chill. The cabin has everything you need. Good wifi, good TV, gas grill, plenty of utensils if you want to cook. It is filled with many memories of the Mitchell family. We will be back.

Awesome Cabin
This was a totally charming cabin in a lovely, peaceful setting across from the family farm full of goats and other farm animals. It was originally built in the 1800s then moved and fully restored, decorated with precious family memorabilia. It was roomy, comfortable and totally clean. Good bed and sheets. We will be back there.

Bliss at the Mitchell Cabin
My husband and I stayed at the Mitchell cabin and it was the perfect rental for us. It's located close to Bryson City, yet far enough away to be secluded and quiet. The driveway is easy to access and level. My SUV fit with room to spare on either side. The porch with the rocking chairs was my favorite spot. We were able to enjoy the breeze and watch the goats across the road as we sat on the porch. The cabin is spacious and very clean. It has a cozy feel to it with extra touches considered for each room: kitchen - napkins, bathroom - tissues, laundry room - clothes basket and laundry detergent starter packet, walk-in closet - roomy, etc. I would highly recommend this cabin to anyone who is considering staying there.

Peaceful
We really enjoyed our stay at this cabin! Very convenient to town but also quiet and peaceful. No dishwasher but very nice washer and dryer. We couldn’t find instructions for the gas fireplace so opted not to use it. Loved the front porch. Would definitely go back!

Great little cabin
The listing really doesn't do this place justice. It's been rebuilt and updated recently so more like an old/ new cabin perfect for a couple. Feels isolated but 5 minutes from town and the cabin is on a slight rise overlooking the property owners goat ranch which provided serenity and entertainment. Enjoyed a full week and would be happy to return.

Peaceful Place
This property has recently been renovated and is just right for a couple! Great attention has been given to small details in decorating and representing the history of the family. It is beautiful! Bring your food to cook and any specialty items and you will be set. Property has eating utensils, cooking utensils, dishes, pitchers, cookware, cutting boards, a grill, microwave, etc. Remember to bring your hair dryer if you need one and any personal bath products (body washes, shampoos, etc.). There is a washer and dryer if you need it during the stay but be sure to bring a small container of laundry detergent. We brought outdoor games and a hammock to enjoy the property even more. The goats are fun to watch across the way while you rock on the front porch. The property is easy to get to and has a great gravel parking area. Few steps to the porches and one level throughout in case that may be a worry for you. The rental company is responsive to phone calls and emails before your stay. We didn't need to contact during stay. Overall - would not hesitate to stay again. :)
