The entire valley, known as Florival or valley of flowers, also offers beautiful mountain bike trails (20 of all difficulties).
Guided tours are organized there to help you discover the ancient or more recent history of the valley, its wild nature and the "mill vivarium" will delight young and old. The church of Saint Jean-Baptiste de Buhl, in neo-Romanesque style, houses a 15th century altarpiece from the Martin Schongauer school, classified as a historic monument, in the same way as the famous Murbach abbey 3km away, one of the great leaders of works of Rhineland Romanesque art. Not far away, a ruined castle called "Hugstein", will whet your imagination.
Nearby:
You can also reach, by car, the road of the crests and the famous ski resort of Markstein (1268m), the lakes of Lauch, of Ballon, or some located in the bordering department of Vosges (88), such as Gérardmer, on the other side of the mountains. This will be an opportunity to improvise a gastronomic break in one of these delicious farm inns.
In addition to its peaks, the region has a famous vineyard where welcoming cellars will allow you to taste the grape varieties grown in Alsace, and where you can visit castles and animal parks.
By choosing instead the direction of the east, you will enter the Alsace plain to go to the Ungersheim ecomuseum or arrive at the banks of the Rhine, legendary river.
You are ideally located to visit, a short 1/2 hour drive, the cities of Colmar or Mulhouse and their famous Christmas markets or recognized museums, and an hour's drive away, that of Strasbourg and its prestigious cathedral, its typical streets with half-timbered houses.
You will also be less than an hour from Basel in Switzerland (and Basel-Mulhouse airport), or from Freiburg in Breisgau in Germany, two remarkable and exotic cities. When you go there, you will have the opportunity to cross the country of three borders, a completely natural way of immersing yourself in the heart of Europe.
