Fairytale cottage in a beautiful setting. Our hosts, Finola and John, were welcoming and responsive to any questions we had. The full kitchen and parlor updates are wonderful. We would definitely return to this serene setting.

We were thrilled with Gate Cottage. Serene pastoral surroundings, excellent amenities and charming, welcoming hosts. Having spent 5 nights here, we were sad to leave. It was a perfect base for exploring County Galway.

Fantastic stay!
I cannot say enough after the Gate Lodge and Finola!
The home was quaint and a lovely setting in the rolling hills of Ireland.
The kitchen was modern and spacious. We loved the wood stove in the living room!
Everything was clean and well-kept.
Finola was fantastic to work and communicate with! A perfect spot!

Great little country cottage
My daughter and I were on a short tour of Ireland and wanted something more “old Ireland” like this traditional yet very updated cottage. The place was perfect. It has new furniture, good beds and a brand new kitchen. We enjoyed walking in the evening on the quiet little lane of the cottage strolling past fields of sheep etc. We will be back.

Gate Lodge ~ A piece of heaven!
This little cottage was just what we pictured an Irish cottage to be like. Delightful from the second we entered through the old half door. The weather outside was stormy but the lodge was toasty warm and inviting. The surroundings were picturesque! Which we could have stayed longer.
Beautiful location. Private and quiet. Cozy cottage with a fireplace, great place to enjoy the country side and relax. Kitchen is well equipped. Nearby eatery’s were friendly and fun atmosphere with good food.

Our Stay at Caherlistrane
We loved the cottage and the amenities. Fiona was wonderful. This would be a perfect location for short or extended get away, but is a little farther out of Galway than we expected. Finding our way home in the dark on the narrow unlit roads was a little challenging.

Absolutely loved the small cottage
Although a little off the beaten path, I loved it. 24 year olds, not that much. Cozy, quiet and comfortable. Had problems with washing machine but was offered free wash and dry at big house. Evelyn, housekeeper?, was wonderful and a delight. The only thing I would encourage would be instructions on how certain things function, i.e., washing machine, heat and hot water instructions. U.S. machinery is completely different on how they are operated and usually don't have to operate heat and water. Also, would recommend a new and additional frying pan. But, as stated, lovely place for relaxation. Would definitely go again just to relax and enjoy the charm. Loved loved loved it.

True unique Irish spot
Very unique Gate Lodge house secluded and quiet place. Excellent location to explore Galway and Ashford Castle with afternoon tea. The Cooke’s dedication to the classic estate right down to restoring the beautiful wooden donkey cart. Picked up a couple apples at the market for the lonely horse across the back fence and make a true friend. Hope to return again when not limited on time frame travels. Be sure to have a good GPS, especially at night.

Very Poor
We loved Galway and this place was ideal for visiting.
However, we were very shocked by the state of the cottage on our arrival. The furnishings and appliances were extremely tired, dirty and poorly maintained. It does not look bright, clean and fresh as it does in the website pictures.
In fairness we were moved to another cottage on the owner's estate which was larger and cleaner but again appliances had not been properly maintained and many did not work properly or safely.

Had a pleasant stay!
Enjoyed the cottage very much, such a peaceful setting. Beds were comfy and a good size bathroom. Finloa was a dear and the girls adored Saffron. We took a tour from Galway to the Aran Islands and the Cliffs of Moher and it was an easy drive to the city centre. The only side note would be the living room furniture is a bit tired and lack of dinner plates. And maybe information on where the switch to the oven is. Otherwise it was a lovely stay and we would definitely stay there again, or perhaps in one of the rooms off the courtyard!
