The official origins of this property (named "Can Sans" after one of the most prominent families that owned it) go back to the middle of the 1500's. Can Sans is well maintained thanks to several renovations that have taken place throughout its history, the last one taking place in early 2022. The property is located in the oldest part of the village where fishermen and winemakers once lived. During the Spanish Civil War (1936-1939) Can Sans served as the Embassy for Costa Rica during the bombings that took place in Barcelona that forced many embassies to relocate outside the city (Caldetas had the status at that time of "war free" town).
The neighbourhood is very quiet so if you are looking for peace and privacy this is your perfect destination. In this house you will have a feeling of utter relaxation. The slow pace and the presence of the sea just within a few minutes walk from the house set the tone for a perfect vacation. The thick walls isolate the house from any noise and maintain the space very fresh during the summer.
Caldes d' Estrac (known by the locals as "Caldetas") has always been known for being a spa town where the bourgeois Catalan class spent their summers in the late XIX century. The village - with around 1,000 inhabitants - is protected by the coastal mountain range which runs parallel to the coast, and enjoys a beautiful weather, with mild summers and winters. Just walking around and exploring the narrow streets is one of the best things to do in Caldetas. There is a small museum, called Fundacio Palau, which exhibits some works from Picasso. There is also a thermal bathhouse in the town center. There are also many little restaurants down the main strip, where you will find the majority of them - a mix of seafood, rustic Catalan, tapas, a cozy pizza place (Pizzeria Estrac) as well as small cafes and bars. Like in most Spanish small towns, there is also a central market on the main street, which has different sections for fresh meat, vegetables, fruits, cheese and fresh seafood.
The best part of Caldetas is the beach. There isn’t much better thing to do than waking up on a bright, sunny summer day and throwing on your bathing suit, walking 3 minutes down the hill and setting yourself up in the sand for the day.
There is available free street parking just a few meters from the house (we will provide you with resident stickers). You can choose to park you car and never use it during your stay since grocery stores, restaurants, beach, train station and main points of interest are within a 3/5 minute walk. The train station is within a 3 minute walk and will allow you to take the train to visit Barcelona (only 45 minutes away) and enjoy while you ride the pleasant views of the northern coastline of Barcelona.
