Loved it. It is a wonderful throwback to old times. The couple that run it are incredibly nice and amazingly efficient. They live for this, this is their love, and their love for this is palpable.
We found it an A , but there are things you should know. The rooms are motel-style, but with wonderful views and very comfortable beds. Everything was great. But if your expectations are 4* hotels, you may not understand the wonder you have here. My wife and I have traveled the world, most often in luxury (or as close to it as we could afford), but you rarely encounter authenticity. And such a dedication from owners who love their work.
Be assured it's not for everyone, but please go if you have an open heart and are willing to open it to something you have never encountered before. And if you are up for going back in time with great people, great beds, and great views, this is your place.
I hope you will have as much fun as we did here. And, by the way, you will also encounter an amazing breakfast, featuring home-made goodies.
Mount Battie is not for all people, but I really think it's for you who are looking for a taste of vintage Maine on a beautiful vista.
You'll love it when you walk in the lobby or you won't. If you don't get it, you don't, but I hope you will.
Say hello to Ed at check-in and you'll know what I'm saying.
I don't write reviews often and certainly not with this kind of love. But "wow."
