My recent check-in experience at a resort in Cancun was a series of disappointments and upsetting interactions, particularly with the front desk staff. I arrived with another group of friends, and we had requested to be placed in rooms close to each other. However, they placed our group in separate locations—our friends on the 3rd floor and us on the 2nd floor. To make matters worse, the room originally assigned to us had a strong, unbearable odor of paint that caused us physical discomfort, including headaches. We had to practically beg the staff to move us to a different room, which they begrudgingly did, placing us next door to our friends after initially claiming that no accommodations could be made. Unfortunately, the rudeness and lack of hospitality from the staff set the tone for the remainder of our stay. Once we settled into the new room, there were still basic necessities missing, like washcloths. When we requested them, we were told to come to the front desk instead of having them delivered to the room. It rained heavily during our stay, and the hallways began to reek of sewer, adding to the unpleasant environment. The worst part, however, was the blatant disrespect and what felt like discriminatory behavior from the staff throughout our stay. As Black women, we often felt ignored or treated with less priority compared to other guests. I have stayed in Cancun 6 different times and this was the worst experience I have ever had. The check in took an excessive amount of time, no AC, and we could only could get reservations for dinner 2 nights with very tiny portions given of extremely low quality food. The buffet was awful, and there was absolutely NOTHING to do with my family at the property. We had to book excursions to fill time, and it was a terrible disappointment having spent so much money on the trip. There was no pool side service for food, and room service never answered when we called. Additionally, the food at the snack bar appeared to have been sitting there for days. If it was not for the bartenders, the trip would not have been tolerable.

The food and service were excellent. The room was nice. The pool area was great. Each morning for breakfast we were greeted warmly by. Vanilly, Alfredo and Carlos. Best service ever! Our favorite dinner was at Mexico, Lindo the Poc Chuc was amazing. Antonio was a great server. We will definitely stay again.

The food was excellent. Our favorite was the Poc Chuc at Mexico Lindo. Shout out to Antonio graet server. At breakfast were always greeted warmly by Vanilly, Carlos, and Alfredo. Top notch service. We took a day trip to another hotel because it had a nicer beach, but within a few hours we missed the charm and hospitality of Occidental Costa Cancun. We will definitely stay there again!

I stayed at a RIU property the week before staying at the Occidental Costa Cancun in November. I preferred quaintness of the Occidental, good nightly entertainment, drinks and great food choices. Had no trouble reserving a table in the specialty restaurants. Would stay here again because the price was right. Drawback was the sewage smell and noise of the city.

I made 2 reservations on Expedia the hotel refused to cancel 1 reservation. Even after multiple attempt made by different Expedia agents, the hotel either they won’t respond to emails or they will say to contact Expedia. I contacted the hotel manager shayla who told me they were not paid for one reservation however Expedia had sent me the receipt of paying the reservation that was to be canceled. Pedro another reservation manager has been frustrating the Expedia agent, he doesn’t respond to email and if he picks calls he keep lying he is busy. You don’t steal in an open day light. If you policy allows refund why frustrate the process especially if you were paid twice and refund process started 3 weeks before the stay. Hotel policy says if you cancel reservations before the day of stat you get refunded, Expedia started this process 3 weeks before the stay and hotel will not respond to emails and request. I have attached hotels response saying I contact them Expedia however Expedia says the hotel is frustrating their refund process. Who is telling the truth???

In the one seafood testaurant I needed a functioning receptacle by the only table I liked. It did not work. Two other rables nearby had half a receptacle each working. Ipointed this oug to a manager and to restaurant manager. A redoinding nothing was done for the whole week. My room had a broken switch, which got replaced in an hour.. I could not get any extension cord from hotel so I used my own. Not a glowing recommendation.for something THST would take 10 mi utes to fix.
