The Darst-Myers Hallstead

If you're looking for an unplugged family farm adventure, we'd love to share our cabin and farm property with you.

Enjoy petting and feeding our goats. Interact with free-range chickens. In the spring and summer, you may also find pigs, sheep or cows on the property. Our hens provide eggs guests may cook for their breakfast; guests bring their own side items to make a complete meal. We also provide complimentary snacks and filtered water in a glass dispenser. There is a small refrigerator/freezer combination in the cabin (dorm sized).

The cabin sleeps up to six guests, who choose to "rough it" with many comforts, including a queen bed, a futon, and two low twin beds in the loft (accessible only by ladder, not for children under 8).

Although there is no running water in the cabin itself, the restroom with shower is a short walk (about 50 yards) inside the basement of our farmhouse, with its own private entrance. This restroom is private to your party during your stay.

All linens are provided.

If no other events are scheduled during your stay, guests have use of the barn gym with "full court basketball" (two hoops), air hockey, playground balls and other fun activities like indoor swings. The climbing wall is off limits to cabin guests.

We do not have a television in the cabin, and this is a purposeful decision. We have a selection of games, books, and puzzles, and there is much to do on the property itself, which features a small pond near the cabin with a paddle boat, kayak and canoe.

There is a fire pit right outside the cabin and firewood and matches are provided. There is a charcoal grill for cooking (bring your own charcoal and lighter fluid). Guests are also welcome to use any other fire rings on the property.

Free parking. It is a short walk to the cabin over uneven terrain. The property is not handicap accessible, though we can shuttle on our side-by-side ATV if special arrangements are made ahead of time.

I love this cabin! And the hosts are great. They respond right away to all questions, and provide everything you need for a cozy stay. The cabin is clean, well appointed, and cozy with a gas fire stove for winter and fans and air-cooler for summer. The property is very nice with a large fire pit on the edge of the small lake with kyaks and trampoline. My daughter (10) and I love it. I have stayed here twice and both visits were fantastic. The bathroom/shower is very nice and just a few steps from the cabin. So reasonable, peaceful, but plenty to do. My daughter loves feeding the goats and visiting the chickens. The cat Shiloh befriended us, too!

Wedding Weekend
A family with six members from three generations, as well as a 4-legged furry one, needed a pet-friendly rental when traveling to the area for a wedding. This log cabin was perfect. The granddaughter who loves playing "pioneer days" was ecstatic about its rustic appearance. That does not mean, however, that it lacked any amenities that were needed by the rest of the group. Everything was well-provided and much appreciated. The outdoor play areas were great too. We enjoyed our stay very much!

I had some family matters to attend to in Canton and ended up traveling alone with my 4 kids (two 12 year olds and two 10 year olds). This place was perfect! The atmosphere was comfortable and safe. Perfect for families!
We really enjoyed our stay, the grounds, cabin, fire pit, spring fed pond and fresh eggs were all magical and perfect. The goats and chickens added to the whole experience for our little ones. Nice property, very clean cabin. We stayed overnight for a softball tournament. The bathroom was neat and clean but was a little inconvenient not being attached to the cabin. All the pillows were very flat, and need changed out. I would also recommend a divider curtain or something for more privacy when changing. Going to the bathroom to just change clothes was a little annoying. Overall we had a good stay and loved the animals.

Great place to unplug
We just loved our stay at Darst-Meyers Hallstead! It was the perfect spot to unplug and enjoy time as a family. There was plenty of room for our family of four. The kids enjoyed the swings, playing basketball and airhokey in the barn loft. They also enjoyed visiting the goats and chickens. As a family we loved playing boardgames, grilling out, having a campfire. It was nice a peaceful on the farm. We enjoyed a trip to Cuyahoga Valley National Park that has hiking and beautiful waterfalls. We explored around Hartville for some shoping and eating. Our hosts were very responsive when we had a question. We would love to come back for another visit some day!

Fantastic Cabin and Homestead!!!!
We've spent our weekends exploring many VRBO options for fun overnights, and this is our favorite spot in northern Ohio. It's a comfortable, well maintained homestead with one of the nicest cabins around. The hosts really put in a solid effort to make it a relaxing experience instead of just being "a place to stay for the night". We highly recommend this spot.
