About this property

Beautifully restored farmhouse, big pool & terrace, amazing views

General Description
This 120 year old farmhouse has been restored to a very high standard, with many original features, including terracotta tile floors and wooden beamed ceilings, plus modern bathrooms and kitchen. Set in 0.8 hectares (2 acres) of olive groves, fig and cherry trees, the house is spread over 3 floors, with 4-5 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, 1-2 living rooms and kitchen/dining room. The ground floor gives access to a shady pergola with tables and seating for 14 people, and leads to a large sun terrace surrounding a 12x6 metre (c. 40x20 feet) swimming pool. Covivoli has magnificent, uninterrupted views across the Tuscan hills towards Caprese Michelangelo, the birthplace of the famous sculptor, painter, architect and poet.

Covivoli makes a perfect country retreat from which to go off and explore, or just spend the day at the villa taking it easy. The house, pool and terraces are exclusively for the use of our guests and provide a peaceful and private setting. Choose from sightseeing, a trip to one of the many local markets or a night out at any of the numerous superb local restaurants, or simply relax on the terrace, soaking up the views, the sun and a bottle of the local wine. We also offer additional services, including shopping, dinner, wine tasting, etc (see below for more details).

Location

The house is located in eastern Tuscany, near the border with Umbria, and close to the beautiful, historic towns of Caprese Michelangelo, Anghiari and Sansepolcro. Within easy reach are other famous towns and cities, such as Perugia, Arezzo and Cortona, and (a little further but still accessible in a day trip) Assisi, Montepulciano, Florence and Sienna.

House & Grounds (see photo section for a floor plan)

LOWER GROUND FLOOR - access to terrace from all rooms
• Lower Hall - with washing machine, drinks fridge, storage (games, toys, etc)
• Living room 1 - with sofas, hifi, tv, games
• Kitchen & breakfast/dining room - fully equipped kitchen & seating for 10
• Pergola with alfresco dining for 14, access to grounds, terrace & pool
UPPER GROUND (MIDDLE) FLOOR
• Hall - with main entrance to house, old bread oven, access to all grounds
• Bathroom 1 (on lower/upper floor mezzanine) - wc, bidet, bath & shower
• Living room 2 - with double sofa-bed, books & toys, wood burning stove
• Bedroom 4 (accessed through living room 2) with double bed
TOP FLOOR
• Bathroom 2 (on middle/top floor mezzanine) - wc, bidet, walk-in shower
• Bedroom 1 - with double bed & washbasin
• Bedroom 2 - with double bed
• Bedroom 3 - with 2 single beds
TERRACE, GROUNDS & SWIMMING POOL - accessed from lower ground floor and from paths from upper ground (middle) floor

Covivoli sleeps 10 people comfortably (3 double bedrooms, 1 twin bedroom and 1 double sofabed in the second living room), and is suitable for both families and groups of friends. On request, we can provide up to 3 travel cots for babies and 2 single inflatable mattresses, so the house can accommodate more at a squeeze. We have hosted larger groups but would recommend a maximum of 10 children and adults.

Additional Services

We offer a range of additional services, all organised through our House Manager, Chris (who is English and lives with his Italian wife in the nearby village of Ponte Singerna), including:
• Provisions bought for you (there are usually a few basics in the house, but we can organise a small shop for you - helpful especially if you plan to arrive late)
• 5 course Tuscan dinner, with wine, private chef and waiter
• Tuscan wine tasting, perhaps combined with a dinner
• Homemade pasta lessons, combined with a lunch or dinner
• Private birthday or anniversary parties, other celebrations, even an all-inclusive Tuscan wedding - you name it, we will do our best to make

Lovely property in beautiful location
We were 8 adults and loved our stay here. Pool is large and warm. Great accommodation. Good sized table outside for eating at. Very good communication before we went and property manager on hand if we needed anything during the stay. There are some lovely hilltop towns within 30 mins of the property, Arezzo is an hour away and there are restaurants and a supermarket 10 mins away. Can thoroughly recommend!!

We’ve returned to this property many many times over the years, which should tell you every you need to know about how much we enjoy it here. It’s in a great location with lots of towns nearby to visit or should you just want to sit on the terrace and look at the view, you won’t tire of it.

Beautiful rural Tuscan experience
We had a wonderful stay at Covivole - a fantastic farmhouse that has been lovingly restored and was the prefect space for a group of 10 (2 families) with modern facilities - the kitchen was very well stocked. The house was spotlessly clean, it has a rustic charm and all rooms have wonderful views. The Beds are very comfortable including the sofabed so we could sleep 10. But of course it’s the outside space that makes this holiday home and we were not disappointed - even better than the photos, with a huge vine covered terrace over a large dining table and far reaching views into the fields and hills beyond. Sunrise and sunset were both stunning times of the day. The pool is superb - very very large and more than enough space for swimming and mucking about for 2 families with older teenagers. There are plenty of sun beds and one large parasol. Lovely gardens and we stocked up on insect spray which is always needed in the countryside! Chris the housekeeper was on hand and helped us out immediately with a few issues , as well as giving us great recommendations of things to do and places to visit. A car was a must for exploring Tuscany and into Umbria or Emilia-Romagna - with some beautiful hilltop towns within easy reach and hiking /forests to explore. We also took a trip to the Adriatic coast - 90 minutes to drive there - but it was totally worth the effort. Thankyou Gareth, Kate and Chris - we will definitely recommend your wonderful farmhouse !

Special place
We all had a lovely week at Covivoli. The weather was hot, but the vine-covered terrace gave us plenty of shade, and the pool was delightful! Both the children ( aged 2 and 6) loved it! There are also plenty of good quality fans to keep the house cool. The views from the house are stunning and the location is so peaceful. Yet the supermarket in Pieve Santo Stefano is only 10 minutes away and is well stocked. There are several short flights of stairs which could be a bit of a challenge for a small toddler, but our little lad managed fine. Everything is very well organised by Gareth and Kate who supplied an abundance of information about the house and locality which we found very helpful. Also, thank you for the wine, it was delicious! We’d particularly like to thank Chris, the property manager who was always on hand if we had any queries, responded very promptly and was extremely kind and helpful. We would definitely like to pay a return visit to Covivoli!

Beautiful Hide-away in the Tuscan Hills
We spent a very nice and relaxing week at Covivoli. Although the house is a bit older than it looks on the pictures, it is very well equipped and the kitchen is quite modern. The pergola is a dream. There is lots of natural shadow (it was very hot end of June) and there is enough space under the Pergola for the Children to play. Also it has a great view on the surrounding hills and fields. Very quite nighborhood in the middle of nature. The pool is very nice and big and we spent most of the time there. One of the two umbrellas was broken when we arrived and also the pool cover broke probably long ago and should be replaced. Apart from that, the stay was just amazing and everything was perfect. Caprese Michelangelo is very close and we had a very good Pizza and delicious ice cream at the local "Sportsbar". We would definitely recommend this place to everyone who likes a week of dolce far niente.

Tuscan bliss
Covivoli is the most magical place, we had a wonderful two weeks there. The house is great, but the outside area and the view is what makes this house particularly special. The covered area at the back of the house is magical, vines growing up and a perfect table where we ate all our meals, with views for absolutely miles. The pool is fantastic, and a lovely big area around the pool, which is perfect for playing with kids. The house is really well equipped, so there was nothing else we could have possibly needed. Gareth was really quick to respond all my messages, and went out of his way to make sure we had everything we needed, and the house manager Chris was amazing. So kind and helpful, he popped round to do the pool twice a week, and was on hand to answer all questions and make sure we had the best possible holiday. A big, big, thank you!

Great time in Tuscany
Nothing better than waking up our first day at this great property and walking out to the terrace to beautiful views and the smell of lavender and rosemary. Secluded spot in the hills but plenty to see locally. Property was well managed and we received so much useful info about the place and surrounding area. Kitchen was well stocked as well as the rest of the house. Our 5 course Tuscan dinner was amazing.

Peace and quiet amid the Tuscan hills
A beautiful villa in a secluded and peaceful valley. The scenery is amazing: rolling farmland in the foreground and impressive hills in the background, with olive trees and cherry trees abundant at the villa. The pool is idyllic and our family enjoyed meals al fresco under the excellent pergola. There are plenty of bedrooms and the villa is decorated to a high modern standard. It is spread over several floors, however, with lots of steps throughout - so is not perfect for families with small children/toddlers. The owner and local property manager were both excellent - before and during the stay - very helpful and responsive. There are interesting local towns not too far away, eg Anghiarri and Sansepolcro (around 40 minutes) but not a great deal of amenities closer to home, so suggest stocking up further afield. Overall, a great stay in a fantastic hidden away location.

Covivoli
We had a wonderful stay at Covivoli! The house itself is comfortable and very well stocked, particularly the kitchen - it seems to have almost everything! The surrounding countryside is beautiful and the views from the house are spectacular. Unfortunately for us the weather was not great, but we still managed to pack a lot in to our holiday! We had the fantastic opportunity to have a chef come and teach us how to make Cantucci and Ravioli, definitely a highlight of the trip! All in all we had a wonderful holiday!

Toscana retreat
Covivoli is beautifully situated in a quiet part of Tuscany 45 mins from Arezzo. It’s quite a drive to Arezzo, and Siena takes nearly two hours each way. The pool at the property is large and very well maintained with wonderful views across the countryside. There are plenty of other indoor and outdoor games to muck about with. The problem for us was that the weather was poor every day but one of our week-long stay - windy, rainy and cold. So we spent a lot of time in the house - 7 adults & 3 kids - and it was quite a squash. One room that had been a sitting room had a sofa bed to accommodate us which left one small dark sitting room and the kitchen to sit in which was not very comfortable. In good weather this wouldn’t be a problem but it made us feel constrained.

Beautifully Restored, Peaceful and Delightful Villa
Covivoli is a great place to stay, the villa is superbly renovated yet keeps a lot of original character, without sacrificing the luxury that ( if not needed ) is all you want on Holiday. The bedrooms are well laid out with great linen on the beds, the bathrooms clean, cool and well maintained. The Kitchen is very well equipped with all you may need from opening a bottle of Wine, to cooking a large family meal if you wished. The outside is even better than the pictures show. The pool is large, deep, clean and perfectly situated. All day sun, great views from the pool – it was hard to drag my daughter away from it. The terrace with its large table is perfect for meals from breakfast through to the evening, sitting with a glass of wine ( or more )( watching fire-flies dancing around in the dark. Covivoli is situated in deep countryside, very quiet, yet within 10 mins ( by car ) are small village restaurants and bars. Anghiari is a great village ( about 15 mins away ) with a very good restaurant in “Da Alighiero” a must visit. In all everything we could have wished for. There we just 4 of us, but it would suit 4 couples very well, possibly with a few children thrown in.

A wonderful getaway
This was our second time at Covivoli and were a little anxious that it had not changed from the picture we still had in our mind of our first time there, especially since we were taking some family with us this time. We need not have worried. It was still wonderful and the family loved it. The setting of this place is just so amazing. The views are still magnificent and the house is comfortable and very easy to live in. The patio was everyone's favourite and we had some great evenings there, eating, drinking and having fun together. The pool is a great area for the children and the adults to relax around too. Thank you for keeping this place as is. We love it and can't wait to go back.

Beautiful farmhouse in stunning location
Our third stay at Covivoli and it was every bit as good as we remembered it. The house is lovely - spacious, spotlessly clean and very well equipped. The pool and surrounding area were great for relaxing and the covered eating terrace gave a welcome respite from the endless sunshine. The surrounding countryside is beautiful and totally unspoilt by tourism and there are numerous local places to eat, offering delicious Tuscan cuisine, at reasonable prices. If you are looking for a totally relaxing, get away from it all holiday, it would be hard to find a nicer place to stay than Covivoli. It is set in the heart of the Tuscan countryside, in a remote hamlet and a car is therefore essential for getting around. If you can tear yourself away from the pool, there are numerous towns and villages to visit in the vicinity, either for eating out or wandering around, taking in the local history and the area is served by good supermarkets. We would thoroughly recommend a stay at Covivoli and definitely want to return for another visit in the not too distant future.

Rapture in Tuscany
We had a great stay in this wonderful villa. The scenery was breathtaking with mountains, olive trees, fig and cherry trees surrounding the property. I brought a book to read but it was difficult to concentrate with the breathtaking views. It was a convenient to drive to the town of Pieve St. Stefano for grocery shopping and other local stores and restaurants. Everyone in town was very friendly and helpful as our Italian was very limited. We had everything we needed in this beautiful home. Plenty of supplies, towels utensils, etc. The bedrooms were very spacious and beds were very comfortable. We had a beautiful and spacious veranda to eat breakfast on every morning and to enjoy in the evening. Not sure if you planned it this way, but the very first evening an absolutely huge moon appeared over the mountains. What a great start to our first evening! Gareth and Kate have a book of detailed information of restaurants and towns to visit and how long it takes to get to each one. I also loved the information on your home, with the details and pictures of the renovations you did on the house. We were even able to use the swimming pool a couple of days, which is unusual this early in the season (May). Cinzia, the housekeeper, was wonderful and helped us with anything we needed. On the day before we left she made us the best raviolis stuffed with ricotta and spinach with a bolognese sauce! We loved it! There is not one thing I could add to this wonderful vacation. Gareth and Kate, thank you for making this beautiful memory possible for us. We are hoping to come back soon and stay longer.

A quiet, relaxing spot with amazing views!
There were 9 of us staying at Covivoli and the house provided plenty of room and space. The kids spent hours in the pool and exploring, while us Adults relaxed by the pool or had a lazy lunch outside. If you are into cycling there were some great cycle routes and climbs nearby and we hired some bikes not to far away - only cost 100 Euros for the week which I thought was very good. Most days we would venture out to a nearby town and check out the markets so there was lots to do. We loved the chapel where St Francis received the Stigmata (Chiusi della Verna) and also enjoyed Sansepolcro. In short it was a great week at a special spot in Tuscany.

An amazing villa, beautifully restored, spacious, comfortable, clean and well stocked
An amazing villa, beautifully restored, spacious, comfortable, very clean and well stocked with a great pool overlooking a wonderful valley . Its actually more gorgeous than the photos suggest! The villa is out of the way and Covivoli was not on our sat nav so we would recommend following Gareth's written instructions very carefully, buying a detailed map and getting there in day light. That said its well located with some wonderful historic towns 30 minutes drive from the villa Fernanda was lovely. All in all we could not recommend this beautiful villa more highly

Perfect place for a relaxing holiday in a stunning location
Our family, which includes three boys aged between 10 & 18, thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Covivoli. We collected our car in Rome and found it to be a simple 3 hour drive to the house following the excellent instructions provided. The house is in a beautiful location, and is very well equipped. We enjoyed cooking at the house and eating dinner under the pergola each evening. The table tennis table was a massive hit, as was the pool, where our 10 year old learnt to overcome his fear of the deep end (which is deep - our 6ft4 son couldn't touch the bottom!) and also learnt to dive!! Watching the swallows coming in for a drink was amazing! This really is a little bit or paradise in the middle of Italy. Quiet, completely private and surrounded by stunning scenery. We enjoyed an amazing day trip to Florence and visited the beautiful village of Anghiari regularly, the boys very much enjoying the locally produced ice cream and pizzas. The only down side to be aware of was that we were expecting air conditioning as this was listed, however this was not the case. Some of the rooms did have floor standing fans, Fernanda looked after us well and baked us the most amazing apple cake. All in all this truly is a fabulous holiday destination and we hope one day to return. David, Rachel and boys

Wonderful family holiday
This was our second visit to this lovely property and we once again had a fantastic holiday. A perfect setting where time just seems to stand still. Our party included our two youngest grandchildren aged 3 and a half and 1 and a half who spent many happy hours in the swimming pool during the day and we enjoyed grown up time on the terrace in the evenings, enjoying a glass of wine, the amazing view and watching the fire flies. Would love to visit again one day - and would thoroughly recommend. Many thanks to Gareth and Kate and also to Fernanda who made us feel so welcome. Would love Fernanda's recipe for apple cake - just delicious and enjoyed by all.
