My wife and I enjoyed our stay in Richard's Gite in Carcassonne. The weather was not as good with several wet and windy cool days but we were comfortable and warm the whole week of our stay. The location is perfect with the lovely river Aud and green natural area just outside our door. One can enjoy the short walk along the river and up the hill to visit the UNESCO medieval fortress, Carcassonne, that dominates the city. Local food stores, bakeries, and other stores are also a convenient walk. including a food market on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday in a place that is also walking distance. We like to prepare most of our own meals when traveling and had no problem shopping and then preparing for meals in the kitchen with the provisionals we needed to make simple breakfasts and dinners. Richard is the most gracious of hosts. He readily called us in California to answer any questions we might have before we booked our stay. Richard is a wealth of knowledge about the city and the area which allowed us to make day trips to historical sites with our leased car. We enjoyed our conversations with Richard who is always available to help. He is adept not only in French but also in English, German, and Spanish. He quickly provided a solution to the small crack in the coffee carafe which allowed us to brew our coffee each morning,. We loved our stay and would love to return again some day plus for those who drive Richard has found a way to insure that you have a parking space in front of your door reserved for you which is such a luxury when staying in a crowded old part of the city with narrow streets and too many cars. We were so lucky that we selected Richard's Gite, which proved perfect for us during our stay in Carcassonne.
