Very good hostel right in the center of Cartagena. Cheap, friendly with very useful stuff that does speak english. Wifi is free and all the transportation option are available.
I had to book a same night additional night in Cartagena and the staff at this hostel was super helpful and friendly. The hostel is great, they have nice and clean private room with double beds, tv, free wifi and a large private bathroom. Everything you ever want in Cartagena is close by.
Located within the Walled City, this beautiful hostel in Cartagena is a stone throw away from all Cartagena's main attraction. Only 30 minutes cab drive to the airport and 10 min walking distance from the docks where you can take a boat to the Rosario's island. A plethora of bars and restaurant with some of the best seafood and Caribbean dishes you'll find in Colombia. The property is clean, safe and the guys working at the receptions are going the extra miles to help you settling down. There is a pool, a rooftop a place to safely store your luggage. They have both dorms and private rooms which are lange and have air-con, private bathroom and TV. Strongly recommended!
Great location and clean, simple accommodations.
I will stay here again!

Ok
ok, nothing spectacular. Fair for the price I guess. The location is good, that was the only bright-side. The reception guy ordered a taxi for me on my last day and it was pretty much a scamm. Payed 50 thousand colombian pesos for a 10 mins ride that costed me 15 when I myself got a cab from the airport to the hostel. One of the days they ran out of towels so I had to purchase one near.
Room looks simple but that's not an issue. Bed is comfy, the pool is really refreshing after a day out exploring and really good wifi which has been rare in my experience.
Best part is the staff. All the staff I spoke with with were really friendly and helpful, if it was asking about directions to any other queries I had.
Average hostel. The rooms were tidy but small, with very dim lights and no windows. I had to use a torch just to get around the room. Security is pretty lax, you are not given a key to the room or even an identifying wristband as in other hostels.
It was great but they don't turn the ac on until 8. Other than that the staff is really nice and helpful. It is located about a two minute walk from the famous clock and everything else is pretty close.
The staff is amazing, good location, rooms are clean and peaceful
We will be back
Thank you Jesus(staff)

Liked: Cleanliness
OK, so a bit of a double-edged review. On the one hand Casa Escallon had everything you could want. It was clean, in a very good location, had a nice little pool. However the downside was that the front staff - particularly a male (whose name I don't have) was incredibly surly during our check in at a late hour. No a good start... first impressions and all that! Secondly, although the hotel was furnished in a minimalist fashion (no doubt to help keep it so clean) there is minimalism and there is nothing! No side lamps in the room, so full glare ceiling lamp on all the time. Only one set of pillows for each person on a double bed. Lastly, it's an old building. Old buildings in this part of the world accentuate noise if they have a courtyard (this does) if guests are shouting and screaming until 2am, surely the hotel should say something to them to quieten down. Unfortunately this was not the case. It's a good hotel in a good location but for the price, I should have gone somewhere else.
The shared dormitory was very nice: beds were some of the most comfortable I've slept in at a hostal. Very clean. Economical for Cartagena and easy walking distance to EL Centro
Overall, very solid for a hostel. Doesn't feel dirty like most. Clean, with a pool, nice rooftop. My biggest complaint would probably be that the front desk controls the AC in each room. If you leave, they will go in and shut it off without asking you. Depending on the person at the front, they may be flexible on this if you ask. Annoying but fairly minor overall.
Great place with nice pool and roof terrace! Perfect location for exploring the city while still having a space to escape to with air conditioning. Small pool but very nice - very clean throughout.

Nice option inbetween hotel stays
I booked Hostal Castellon for two nights before my stay at another hotel. I wasn't expecting much but it was a wonderful experience! The hotel staff were amazing. They gave wonderful directions and info on things to do and where to eat around the neighborhood. They were also a big help when my CC wouldn't go through. They were patient and helped me contact my bank. I had a private room which was clean and comfortable. I was very happy with my stay.
