Delightful hotel experience
We had a lovely 3 night stay at the Cally Palace Hotel. We don't play golf but the golf course looked immaculate and very picturesque. The house was built between 1763 and 1765 and the gardens and woods gradually added over the next century. The rooms are very spacious with a big bathroom and 2 comfortable armchairs. The bed was so wide that I couldn't get near my wife! We particularly enjoyed the swimming pool, sauna and jacuzzi - we never saw more than 4 people in there at a time. The food in the restaurant was very good for an evening meal, although we also found good restaurants in Gatehouse of Fleet and Castle Douglas. We were worried about the badly burned toast served to everyone on the first morning and the hard boiled poached eggs but the chefs must have changed for the other two days as their breakfasts were much better apart from some completely inedible scrambled egg on the second day. Staff were always polite and helpful. Overall, we enjoyed our stay so much that we intend to go back for a longer time next year.

4th stay in 24 months. New reception staff not as friendly as Arran and Sarah. Very nice birthday celebration in the restaurant for my mum. Would choose a bedroom in the main hotel rather than the wing

Use the conservatory for dinner!
It’s a nice hotel in need of some investment. The staff are friendly and helpful. The rooms were nice, but the restaurant was unbearably hot, air conditioning is required or at the least the ability to open windows for fresh air. Thank goodness there was a conservatory where you could have dinner.

We’ve stayed at the Cally Palace irregularly for 20 years or so and almost always enjoyed our visits. But it seems to us that it’s become a bit unloved. The staff are great, very helpful and always with a smile.

Very large room in a quiet part of the hotel and close to the swimming pool. Swimming was a pleasure as the water was warm and the pool large enough to swim actual lengths. Pleasant staff. Extensive breakfast buffet. Location looks remote at first glance but a good base for exploring Galloway or travelling on into Ayrshire.
