Oaks Retreat in tranquil setting near Yosemite Valley/Merced River

Quiet and serene retreat for adults (not set up for children) located in California Gold County on ranch property - a little more than a mile from highway 140, which is the route to the west entrance of Yosemite Valley. The property is situated in the rolling hills and oak trees of Catheys Valley. The The sunrise and sunsets are gorgeous and the night sky has an unobstructed view of the stars. The historic rock walls that exist on the property are from the early gold rush days of California. Wildlife abounds on this property - deer, coyote, bobcats, birds such as turkey, hummingbirds and the California Quail.

The retreat has just been renovated and has two large comfortable bedrooms, each with a queen bed. Two twin sized rollaway cots can be provided when booking for 5 or 6 guests. There is a separate air conditioner/heater split system for each bedroom and the living area - very quiet. The open floor plan has a living room with plenty of lounging area and includes games and puzzles, flat screen TV, and WiFi. The kitchen has a full size refrigerator/freezer, a stove/oven, microwave, toaster, Keurig coffee machine & tea pot, blender, glasses, dishes, pots/pans, silverware and cooking utensils. There is an iron, ironing board, and washing machine. Out the front door is a private patio under a large oak tree with a picnic table and charcoal only BBQ.
We have 1 security camera outside facing the front door.
The retreat is fully stocked with towels, hand soap, shampoo and conditioner, shower soap, linens, laundry soap, dish soap, coffee, some spices and cooking oil, toilet paper, paper towels. Housekeeping is provided before and after your stay. There is not a daily maid service. The entry is a personal key code access and there is plenty of room for parking.

Catheys Valley is a quaint small town with a restaurant, gas and convenience store and a small post office. The Catheys Valley park has the old Catheys Valley school house, an informational plaque/marker describing the founder of Catheys Valley and a blacksmith shop sponsored by the Catheys Valley Historical Society - open during special events and holidays. Raw Roots Farm are located in Catheys Valley and are worth the visit. You can also arrange an animal tour with us while you are visiting.

The Mariposa Fair Grounds hosts the Mariposa County Fair and rodeo including the demolition derby, various events and festivals and the Mining and Mineral Museum that gives you the colorful history of our gold country past.

Mariposa is a small gold rush town that now offers local antiques, gift shops and art galleries, wine and olive oil tasting, restaurants, groceries and gas stations. For historical sightseeing, the court house is the original court house built in 1854 and the only original court house still operating in California. Tours are available during certain times of the year. The Mariposa Museum of History sits in the central part of town and is close to breakfast, lunch and dinner options.

Highway 140 continues through Mariposa along the scenic Merced river to the west entrance of Yosemite National Park, the only all weather route into Yosemite and the closest entrance to the valley floor loop. Along the route there are places to stop for picnics, water rafting, beaches and of course beautiful scenic photography opportunities of the wild California poppies and the beautiful rock outcroppings. The Merced River Recreation Area in Briceburg is a great place for all of these.

Other family activities around Mariposa include the historic Sugar Pine Railroad that takes guests on a 4 mile narrated railway adventure traversing original logging rail beds by a steam locomotive; the Sierra Vista Scenic Byway will take you through giant sequoia groves, alpine lakes, wildflower fields and amazing views of the Sierra Nevada Mountain Range; and multiple lakes for swimming, boating or fishing.

Yosemite National Park is set within California’s Sierra Nevada mountains. It’s famed for its giant, ancient sequoias, and for Tunnel View, the iconic vista of towering Bridalveil Fall and the granite cliffs of El Capitan and Half Dome. In Yosemite Village are shops, restaurants, the Yosemite Museum and the Ansel Adams Gallery, offering prints of the photographer’s renowned black-and-white landscapes of the area.

Ok
Being right next to animals was really cool. The fact that it was in the middle of nowhere and no lighting and no signs saying right where it was and no saying hey look for this sign or that sign that we did in the dark trying to find the house didn’t help any.

Easy to be here!
Welcoming and easy to navigate! We were seeking easy, and we got it! Everything clean, accessible, available, and everyone loved the animals over the fence! We don’t use these apps or computers a lot. Jason helped me through it in spades. Shared Yosemite with three first timers…! No crowds and beautiful Fall feeling!

Very clean, organized house. Perfect for solo retreat to read, hike, cook, etc. only suggestion is to give the patio some love. It’s the star of the house and needs to be made more comfortable!

Just what we needed to visit Yosemite!
This was the perfect place to take a couple of day trips to Yosemite. We had all the comforts of home (Jason was sweet enough to leave us a handwritten note and bottle of wine to welcome us!), we enjoyed Mariposa one night (the Charles Dinner House and 1850 brewery/restaurant were wonderful!) and spent the next evenings cooking at home. Our furry friends across the way were great neighbors! Thanks for a wonderful time, would absolutely stay again!

Wonderful experience
We had a great stay! When we arrived there was a bottle of wine and hand-written note which was such a nice touch. There was a personalized code for us to use to get in so there was no need to meet up with someone. It was so convenient. The inside was clean and new looking and beautiful. I highly recommend! It was about an hour and a half drive to Yosemite Valley. Thank you for a terrific experience!

Ideal...
Everything about our stay at The Oaks was ideal - making the booking, check-in, the gorgeousl location and well-maintained house and property...the house is beautifully furnished and had everything we needed for our stay, including a well-equipped kitchen for the nights we wanted to cook in. This is a very welcoming vacation rental and we would definitely book again if we find ourselves back in the area!

A true gem!
We opened the front door and my 19 year old son said "Wow!" It's easy to make anything appear much better in photos but not in this case. The property is clean, comfortable, beautifully decorated with not a single thing out of place. The owner provided information promptly and everything was super easy. Highly recommended.

Clean & Spacious. Owners have thought of everything you would possibly need.
We stayed 4 nights in early June. Accommodations were easy to find, spacious, comfortable and very clean. The owners were great hosts and have thought of everything you may possibly need. Yosemite Valley Visitor Center is about a 1 1/2 hr drive from this cabin. A little tip though...arrive at Yosemite no later then 8:30 am to get a parking spot. Pioneer Market is a great little grocery store I. Mariposa and Sweetwater in’s mariposa serves delicious deli sandwiches.

Peaceful and Beautiful Country Setting (Recommended)
My colleague and I stayed here 10 days while working on a nearby highway project. The 2 bedroom ranch style home is very clean and well appointed. Everything seemed to be nearly new and in excellent condition. The bath towels were thick and like those found in higher end hotels. The mattresses were firm and free of the ever present low spot found in older beds. The kitchen was well appointed and had everything we needed to produce several nice meals. Being out in the country the nights were silent and sleeping was good with the windows open. If you want the windows closed, every room had its own climate control unit with remote control. The host Jason came by a couple of times to make sure that everything was OK and to see if we needed new towels or bed linens because of our long stay. Overall this is a great place to stay and I highly recommend it to anyone wanting to stay in the area.

Beautiful and well appointed
Nice and spacious two-bedroom house close to Mariposa. We saw the county fair (including demolition derby!), mining and mineral museum, and other out of the ordinary attractions (like Hornitos and its very old cemetery and gold rush ruins). It was a really interesting California experience. Close to Yosemite. Quiet. All nights were clear and dark so the stars were incredible. Definitely recommend it for a quiet getaway.

Tranquil ranch with all the luxuries
Such a beautiful location with less than an hour to Yosemite. Well worth the drive. A two bedroom (what I like to call) ranch with comfortable bedding & bed. Impeccably clean with nice detail. Enjoyed breakfast & dinner on the patio in a very peaceful ranch setting. Hostess couldn't be more accommodating. Staying in Yosemite is very convenient but leaving the crowd behind made it all worthwhile. Woul highly recommend Oaks Retreat. It's a terrific value.
