Pretty Charentaise villa with enclosed garden, private heated pool, sleeps 8 + 2

Chez Sibert has been professionally modernised to provide a comfortable, all year round holiday home. The traditional 150 year old house is designed to be cool in summer and warm in the winter, and well equipped for you to enjoy your stay. There is so much to do and see whatever the season.

The Charente-Maritime is renowned for its micro-climate. This provides long periods of sunshine, second only to the French Riviera. This usually lasts from March to October, with warm days at both ends of that season, and even the winters can be quite mild.
Situated on a small hill above the Charente valley in the ancient province of Saintonge, the property is surrounded by vineyards planted to get the maximum sun possible – these produce the grapes for the famous cognac and delicious local fortified wine pineau. The vines are edged by small woods which attract a variety of wildlife. For example from the garden you can see deer walking through vines in the morning, watch buzzards wheeling above, listen to the crickets, or a nightingale in the evening and hear the extraordinary call of a golden oriole. The garden catches the sun all day long, with huge expanses of sky to really appreciate the weather, bird life, or perhaps gaze at the stars at night. Close by, running through the wood, is evidence of the Via Agrippa roman road which ran between Saintes and Lyons.
This is a spacious property offering plenty of flexible accommodation and modern facilities for up to eight people - with space for two extra children - but it also works well for smaller parties wanting more room or a couple for a romantic getaway. Downstairs the spacious open plan living room easily accommodates everyone, with a large fire for cooler seasons, as well as a piano. Next to the living room is a separate snug with further seating. A large modern kitchen diner – the garden room – has patio doors leading out to one of the terraces and an outdoor eating area with barbecue. There is also a double downstairs en-suite bedroom as well as a cloakroom with another shower. Upstairs there are three good sized bedrooms, one is en-suite and depending on the size of the party, a second room can become en-suite. The pretty bedrooms have comfortable quality mattresses which can be configured as singles or superking doubles.
The attractive fenced garden is flat, offering views across the vines and plenty of different areas to relax in, whether you want sun, or shade. The secure pool area is a delightful private sun trap; the heated pool is 8m x 4m and a uniform depth of 1.5m. The pool is available for use from 1st May to 30th September. The flat lawns allow people to make use of the outdoor games and activities provided. Guests are welcome to help themselves to cherries, peaches and greengages from the fruit trees. The drive, within the garden, allows parking for at least three cars, and includes a shaded car port.
Even though the house is a traditional design, the property has been equipped for modern living including four fully modernised bathrooms, heating and double glazing. There is WiFi, Sky television, French television, charging sockets for mobile devices and a fully equipped kitchen with electric oven, induction hob and wine cooler.
The peaceful location is at the end of a no through road but is only 15 minutes from Cognac and 20 minutes from Saintes. Smaller towns offering bakeries and small supermarkets are even closer. All the towns have regular traditional French markets; Saintes has a market every day. Both Saintes and Cognac have local train stations; Angouleme is the nearest TGV station (now on the Tours to Bordeaux TGV expansion). There are also TGV stations at La Rochelle and Niort. The nearest airports are at Bordeaux and La Rochelle.
The local region provides something for all interests for example; kayaking on the river, or climbing through the trees at Fontdouce; cycling through local lanes; walks along two of the national long distance footpaths - GR4 and GR360;the history and cultural development of the Saintes area from well before roman times; the famous cognac business and tasting tours; a lively music scene including the annual Cognac jazz festival; the world championship motocross at St Jean d’Angely; Haras National de Saintes (national breeding stables) and the unique Poitou Charente donkey; not forgetting the fine restaurants throughout the area. The nearest coast is only 40kms, providing magnificent sandy beaches. The thriving historic port of La Rochelle, regional capital of Charente-Maritime, and bustling city of Angouleme, the regional centre of Charente, are both about an hour away.

Spacious rustic house in wonderful location
Chez Sibert provided the perfect space for our three-generation family holiday. Plenty of room to relax and spread out. The house is very thoughtfully child friendly and well equipped. The garden is huge and beautifully planted - and a lot more mature than shown in the marketing photographs. The local house managers, Donal and Amy, were super quick to respond to a couple of minor problems with some of the property's equipment and leaking swimming pool. It all made for a very relaxing holiday in a beautiful part of France. Cognac itself is lovely but we also enjoyed our day trips to Saintes and Angouleme.

Chez Sibert
We had a lovely week in your house. Thank you for the wonderful welcome pack. The pool was lovely and warm and the garden full of roses and birds. We had enjoyable trips to Cognac having a delicious evening meal in La Bistrot de Claude and a very good lunch at Le Grain de Sel. The weather was generally good and we enjoyed having our breakfast and lunch on the terrace at the front of the house.

Great stay in a beautiful and peaceful location
We had been looking forward to returning to Cognac for a few years. Penny and Tony's house didn't disappoint! Surrounded by vineyards, you couldn't hope for a more peaceful location. There was a large garden for our cocker spaniel and children to roam in and a very pleasant pool with all the necessary pool toys and inflatables provided. The house itself is roomy and the kitchen well stocked. Easy access to Saintes and Cognac by car and an hour from Chatelaillon plage. For those with electric cars charging was not a problem in the local area. We will definitely return!

Chez Sibert is set in the most peaceful of settings amongst the vineyards and countryside. The house is the most fully equipped holiday home I have ever stayed in with everything you could possibly need and more. A real home from home. The kitchen/dining area is spacious and very well laid out. The bedrooms with ensuites were all clean, the beds very comfortable and arranged perfectly. The heated pool was brilliant with sun loungers for everyone. A real gem to find.

Great visit
We stayed for 2 weeks during August and had a great holiday. The house was comfortable, clean and very well equipped. The kitchen had everything, and much more, to make cooking easy. The pool was nice and the grounds were great for chasing the sun or shade. We visited Cognac, Saintes, Pons and Jarnac all of which were lovely. The local doctor in Burie was really helpful when a member of our party feel ill. I would have no problem with a return visit or recommending this property..

semaine federale 2019 cognac cycling festival
wish we had spent more time at the villa. Our primary purpose was to participate in the cycling festival but the villa was a welcome relaxing evening respite from the exertions of the day. In other circumstances ,had we not been cycling , it's doubtful we would have left the villa at all, so welcoming and luxurious did we find it. Every wish had been catered for ,nothing left to chance, everything we we might need had been provided. the owners truly had thought of everything. And what a setting! In amongst the vines in its own grounds, a truly bucolic setting to die for. Highly recommended for anyone seeking a holiday let in "La France Profond"

This property is really lovely and exactly what it said on the tin!.
Lovely pool and lovely interior, comfy beds and gorgeous garden. All exactly as we expected from the website and super directions. Tony and Penny were extremely helpful owners and also gave us lots of useful info and links before our stay about possibilities for activities. They even sent us a text reminder about the rubbish collection which was most helpful. Even in the blazing heat-wave there were enough shady spots to be comfortable! The instruction manuals were a bit daunting and I was surprised to read that we were to "leave the property exactly as we found it" ( or words to that effect) as we assumed that there would be cleaners coming in between 10 and 4 on departure day. ( which there were) . In fact, what we think was meant is that we were to return all items to their correct place where we had found them. This is quite understandable, but the wording had me quite unnecessarily concerned. I loved the region and the Roman amphitheatre at Saintes is well worth a visit. A great place to stay.

A perfect family holiday
We had a fantastic time at Chez Sibert. It was brilliantly equipped: with two families and a week we still didn't get round to using half the games! The swimming pool is a great asset, especially if you have as warm a week as we did. And the kitchen / dining area is a great space in the evenings. Lastly Tony and Penny were really helpful and responsive (even advising us on wine ...)

Picture perfect French home
We have been holidaying in France for nearly 40 years, and this is by far the most perfect place we have stayed. Bringing grandchilden and a dog there is everything to keep them entertained and safe. The house is fantastically appointed with everything you could possibly need, and more. We will most definitely be coming back.

Beautiful French farmhouse that feels like home from home.
A lovely traditional French house, very comfortable, loads of room, surrounded by a pretty garden with a SUPER heated pool. We loved the peace and quiet and the beautiful countryside. The garden has lots of seating which means you can sit in shade or sun any time of the day, when it was hot the dense cool shade of the chestnut tree was most welcome. Penny and Tony have provided everything you can possibly need, from kitchen utensils and equipment (never had an ice cream maker in a holiday home before!) to lots of swimming stuff like noodles and balls. We particularly enjoyed the table tennis table under the shade, but didn't get round to croquet. It's obvious that this is really their holiday HOME. The Charente is a lovely area, Saintes is a beautiful town and of course Cognac is nearby. We enjoyed one of the free concerts at the Blues Passion festival in the beautiful gardens, great entertainment. A super fortnight.

S U P E R B !
This house is absolutely fantastic! We have never stayed anywhere so well equipped before - from ice cream maker to pool inflatables to bags for supermarket shopping via swingball, Dyson sweeper, perfect showers, pestle and mortar (which we used a lot with the herbs growing in the garden!) to the gorgeous swimming pool. The beds were comfy and indoor and outdoor seating was also very comfortable so lounging around was a breeze! It is a peaceful, isolated spot perfect for total relaxation but only a short drive to Cognac which is a lovely town or Saintes which is equally nice. A lovely couple came in to change the beds and treat the pool once a week and were available for any help needed. The pre-visit details pack was informative and the welcome package and folder were great. We needed to visit a doctor for swimmer's ear and information was in the folder, we needed to get our pet's passport stamped etc and the information was in the folder - the owners have truly tried to think of every eventuality and have been very successful in doing so. Thank you for allowing us to use your house - it really is quite something and we have had a wonderful holiday. I've run out of superlatives - this really is a fabulous house and venue for a holiday.

Beautiful, very well equipped vacation home
We had a great time, the property is very well equipped with everything from cooking equipment to games and books for adults and children. Tony and Penny have made sure that everyone is ready to relax and have a good time from the minute you arrive. The welcome present with fresh bread, cheese and drinks was a great way to greet arriving guests. They are also easy to stay in touch with for any needs before and during the stay, although it is hardly necessary. The guest folder contains everything one might need information about, from waste disposal to local businesses, restaurants and anything in between. The area is quiet, in the middle of local wineyards and a beautiful forest where we went for our almost-daily jogging before relaxing at the nice pool area for the rest of the day. The pool is great, nice and warm. The kids stayed in there all day long. Occasionally we had to get them out of there to make sure they ate and drank, but if they were allowed, they would have stayed in the pool every minute of the day. We would definitely recommend this place to anyone that is looking for some quiet, peaceful relaxation with family and friends in a beautiful area!
