Enjoy a secluded lakeside retreat in down east Maine. Relax on the shores by yourself. No neighbors are within sight of the cabin. Spend your quiet time watching the water, paddling the canoe, enjoying nature, or resting in the rocking chairs on the porch. The rustic cabin looks down the full length of the lake and rests 15 feet from the water's edge. The cabin has one queen-sized bed and a cot.

HISTORY

The cabin was likely built in the 1930's to 50's and was part of a logging operation. The cabin enjoyed phone service for a while from the Narraguagus Telephone Company, which closed operations around World War II. The cabin phone was made out of wood and the line ran along the bottom of the lake.

The cabin was a hunting camp for a few decades. A few deer antlers still hang on the wall. At one point, the cabin had a bear skin rug.

A famous Maine Guide owned the property for a about a decade or so. In 1925, he was the youngest guide in the state. This person designed a canoe that is still in production today.

Prior to 1980, accessing the cabin involved parking a vehicle and driving a Model T about a mile and crossing a low part of the Narraguagus River. Then after parking the Model T, people carried their gear through the woods to the lakeshore. From there, people put their gear into a canoe and paddled across the lake. Later, after years of logging and new roads, today's access just requires 4 miles of dirt roads and 1/3 mile hike.

Fantastic time!
This was an awesome getaway! Exactly as described in the listing, and the lake was even bigger than I was expecting. Me and my dog saw only 2 families the entire week, and had plenty of room to hang out and roam around. Thanks!

Peaceful and Secluded
We loved our stay at the cabin and we were sad to leave. We enjoyed use of the kayaks and brought our paddleboard. The lake is beautiful and clean. Our dogs enjoyed spending so much time outdoors with us and going for their first swim. The cabin worked well for our family. It's simple, but that's what we were looking for. Spent a lot of time on the porch enjoying the lake view. Cooked over the campfire and played games at night. Christian met us the evening of our arrival and he was great to talk with. Highly recommend if you're looking for a secluded, peaceful, off-grid experience. We loved it and hope to go back next summer! Thanks so much Christian!

Perfect Cabin on a lake.
We stayed for 3 nights, and it was lovely. The cabin is small and rustic and has all the basic necessities. The view is incredible and the swimming on the lake was lovely. Christian, explained everything perfectly and we had a great time.

Absolute Gem! This place has everything you need. The hike to the cabin is about 10-15 min. Christian gave us a wagon to haul some stuff. The trail is not completely smooth, and the wagon tipped over a couple of times so next time, we will pack a little lighter. The cabin is stocked, and Christian gave us a 5 gallon of water that we used to make coffee and tea, wash some dishes and more. It was more than 2 people and 2 dogs needed. Bring your bug spray!! The place has lots of horseflies and mosquitos. Check yourself for ticks daily, we had two on us. But these are things that can be easily dealt with. The cabin is on the lake, there are no cabins in sight. We needed a reset from the world, and we got it here for sure. The wild animals visited us here including a hummin bird, a red squirrel, a duck family and we heard loons. We will be back for sure!

Worth it
Obviously this place isn’t for everyone who needs modern amenities, but the cabin and location were excellent. We didn’t see anyone on the lake the whole weekend. There was lots of leftover shelf-stable food, bug spray, sunscreen, and other essentials left over so pack lightly. The fire pit, charcoal grill, and propane stove all worked for our cooking needs. The site had multiple canoes and a tandem kayak (only a canoe paddle though) and the lake was beautiful. The only downside is the walk in was pretty brutal when carrying everything but we overpacked and the 95 degree weather didn’t help. If needed, there was a wheel barrow and a radio flyer cart to use for carrying luggage. We didn't have any luck fishing but Christian said it mostly is perch and pickerel if you were to catch something. We recommend this spot and would definitely consider re-booking another stay here!

Perfect getaway
Chris was a perfect host. Met us at the trailhead, no hidden information. This place was like being in the adirondaks in the 70's. Very remote, , quiet, no motor boats or people. Very rough terrain getting in to the campsite, but worth. It. Cones, & kayaks accesable at shreline. Our pup especailly loved i it. Freedom off lease after 2 days of walking the same trails. Max loved it. Hopefully we can go back next summer for a month. Thank you Chris. Place is outstanding!!!!!!

A very peaceful stay
My wife, our 2 year old pyr mix, and I chose this location for a peaceful retreat for a few days. It was really ideal. The rustic cabin sits on a windward facing point of Spruce Mountain Lake. The one room cabin would be relatively dark inside if not for the skylights, which bring in plenty of light. There's a nice breeze from the lake and very little sounds at night except for water lapping at the rocky shore and loons calling to each other around the lake. The cabin has a propane 2 burner stove but no power. Water was provided by our host, who met us there on our first day. We also brought our own water, food, lights, and other supplies which we toted in our folding wagon. The only bathroom is an outhouse, which was well looked after and didn't have any detectable aroma thankfully. The walk in from parking is about 1/3 of a mile on fairly rocky terrain. Our host, Christian, provides a wagon at the trailhead for use, a canoe at lakeside, firewood for the campfire (or presumably the small woodstove inside but we didn't need/ask about it), fresh water for drinking/washing, oil lamps, toilet paper, cards/cribbage games, and plenty of pots/pans for cooking. There are a lot of dry groceries stocked for anyone to enjoy. We had a really nice time. I took a dip in the lake and cooked meals over the campfire. On rainy days it was nice to sleep in and cook inside. Next time I'll pack less, knowing that Christian has provided most everything needed.

Perfect 3 nights!
After discovering this place last year; I decided to come back and bring my parents as a retirement gift. They talked about how amazing it was almost the entire drive home (7 hours). The cabin is perfect secluded getaway. My dog loved lounging around on the porch watching the loons. My parents took the canoe out a few times and we all enjoyed swimming in the clear water. We went up to Lebec one day for lunch and went to Quoddy Head, Boot Bay, and Hamilton Cove. Such gorgeous places. I don’t normally like to go back to the same areas to stay, when there is so much to explore, but this cabin is an exception. It’s just such a special place! Thanks Christian!!!

Quiet Escape
My partner and I had an amazing time at Christian's cabin. The lake is crystal clear, and it's some of the best stargazing I've experienced on the east coast! The location of the cabin is perfect for taking day trips all around Maine—we went to Acadia and Lubec/Quoddy Head during our stay. There are plenty of supplies on hand at the cabin for cooking, bonfires, etc. Make sure you bring additional lanterns/headlamps as it gets extremely dark! Although it was not an issue for my partner and I, hiking into the cabin with gear/supplies may be difficult for some. The hiking path is clear with only one downhill area, but I wouldn't suggest carrying too much in one trip. As much as I want this cabin to stay a hidden secret, I absolutely recommend coming here if you love quiet and nature! :)

A living time capsule!
This cabin and property is a picture perfect experience of old time rusticity, seclusion, and natural wonder. The cabin is unpretentious and rich with historic authenticity. It is perfectly situated on the lovely and sparsely trafficked Spruce Mountain Lake. I didn't see hide nor hair of any other humans during my stay. (A rarity these days) Also, I had the pleasure of meeting Christian and spending some time chatting about the cabin. Thanks for sharing this very special place with us, Christian!

I cannot emphasize how perfect and quiet it is at the cabin. I didn't see another human my entire stay. The only noise is from the loons and the buzz of a very friendly hummingbird. Christian was amazingly helpful and made my stay happen even after getting into an accident just outside Bangor. We loved the property and will be returning the next time I need to unplug! Thank you!

Quaint Waterfront Cabin
We had a great time at the cabin along with our two dogs. We spent most of the days floating on tubes in the lake and swimming with the dogs. The cabin is cute and had everything you need for a long or short stay. This is the perfect place if you are like me and have dogs that don’t do well with other humans or dogs. There are no neighbors nearby. If you are staying in the summer I’d recommend bringing battery powered fans since the cabin can get warm on nice days. Christian was a great host and made sure we had everything we needed.

An enjoyable retreat
My boyfriend and I stayed for three nights with our dog, Duke. We live in a busy area off of a busy street, so it was nice to have some peace and quiet. Perfectly Rustic
If you are looking for a chance to truly enjoy some of the natural beauty that God created, this cabin is the spot for you. As the listing notes, this is a place for those who seek to step away from the buzz of everyday routines and experience a more rustic way of life. Our trip included an evening canoe ride through a thickening fog over the lake, a beautiful morning of fishing on the glass-like water, nights filled with the calls of loons, a warm afternoon soaking in the cool water, and a relaxing time staring at the flames of our campfire. Christian was beyond flexible and responsive, making us feel cared for and comfortable. The cabin was well-stocked and was exactly as it was described in the listing, with an overall feeling of roughing it a little without sacrificing all of the comforts of home. This stay will always be one of the most memorable parts of our trip around Maine. Thank you, Christian!

Peace and Solitude
I was looking for a place to escape the modern world and this property hit the nail in the head. Completely isolated from any nearby neighbors allowing you to enjoy the natural world as it was. Christian was an awesome host to work with and very accommodating. I had originally booked 3 nights and ended up extending my stay an additional two because I didn’t want to leave. He made that happen for which I am truly grateful. Nestled in a pine grove right on the waterfront allowed you to wake up every morning with a view of the lake from the front windows. The short hike from the road adds to the experience of stepping out into the wild. The greatest part was the fact that my Siberian Husky Max was able to enjoy the experience with me and I’m not so sure who loved it more. We spent an afternoon exploring the lake in one of the two canoes available and were graced by the majestic loons that live in the area. Every night we had a nice fire going which we cooked steak dinners on with the cast iron pans provided. A lone loon sang its song well into the night which is an experience like none other. Acadia/Bar Harbor has always been on my bucket list and was only an hour ride south. I can’t say I can check it off the list because there is so much more to explore. Without a doubt I will be returning to this little slice of heaven. Thank you for sharing it with us Christian!
