If you're lucky enough to spend some time at the Château de Ribourdin, you'll very soon realize how special it is, and how glad you are to have done so. Our host Matthieu was incredible. He and his family have owned and run the property for generations and you can feel the love they put into it. Matthieu is unique in his kindness and willingness to go above and beyond to make one feel at home. He honestly felt like a friend. (A friend who knew exactly when to be there when you needed him and let you have space and privacy when you didn't). Thanks to him making a dinner reservation for us in town, we had one of the best meals of our trip, and woke up to a delicious selection of locally baked breads and jams that Matthieu and his family make from their garden. Our room was spectacular, and the countryside views outside even more so. Also, the town neighboring town of Auxerre was one of the most beautiful we came across on our travels, which is only a short 10 minute drive away. It is full of history, as is the Château itself (which Matthieu is more than happy to tell you about on a tour of the grounds).
All I will say further, is if you want to have an authentic and truly special experience, I cannot recommend Château de Ribourdin enough. Our only regret was not staying longer, but we hope to one day return and rectify that.
