Great hotel but wouldn’t stay again.
The hotel was huge — and with that comes a lot of perks, but also it can feel a bit empty and a little haunted. There are guards at the gate that check every car before entering the property, and if you leave, you have to go through a metal detector every time you come back to the hotel. That said, the staff are delightful, the spa is lovely, breakfast is great, the hotel hotel is very clean. I wouldn’t stay here again (and I wouldn’t pay full price for a room — we happened to have booked when there was a sale) but I wasn’t upset with our stay. I would recommend staying in something more boutique or culturally relevant.

Beautiful classical property. Fantastic grounds. Extremely clean and well maintained however the furniture while fine is definitely scratched up and aged. The concierge service was very disappointing. I was there for a very short trip and emailed a request to arrange a visit to the elephant sanctuary prior to arrival. We arrived late at night and on arrival, I was told that no one was aware of my request and that the trip was not arranged and that the night concierge would leave a message for the concierge to arrange first thing in the morning. The next morning, I again had to discuss my request with a third concierge who had not received any communication. Long story short, we ended up having to schedule the elephant sanctuary visit which was wet and muddy for our last day. This was extremely stressful as we had a 30 hour journey back to the US that evening.Check out time was 12 and the front desk's suggestion was that we check out at 7a before leaving for the sanctuary and then shower on our return in the gym. The level of service was not as expected.

This was our first time staying at a Shangri-La hotel, and unfortunately, it was a deeply disappointing experience. While the hotel grounds and property are decent, the service and attention to guest needs were severely lacking. First, we had requested and were promised adjoining rooms for our large family, but this was not honored. Instead, we were placed in rooms on the same floor, but far apart. Additionally, the rooms were not ready until 4:30 PM, well past the guaranteed check-in time of 3 PM. From there, things continued to go downhill. Room service failed to clean our room unless specifically requested, and even then, they didn’t change the sheets or replenish basic necessities like toilet paper, coffee, sugar, or water. It also became apparent that the hotel was severely understaffed and couldn’t keep up with the number of guests. Most of the staff did not speak English well enough to understand even basic requests. While they would often reply with “yes,” it was clear they didn’t understand what was being asked, and nothing would be done to resolve the issue. The front desk staff were unhelpful and rude, often behaving as though they were doing us a favor by addressing our concerns. The food quality was subpar, and to make matters worse, we became ill after eating at the hotel. Overall, this was an extremely disappointing experience. Stayed here for two nights for the second time. Nice property as one would expect from the Shangri-La. Nice room with the mountain view and very comfortable bed. Facilities are great, gym is big and has variety of equipments, enough of cardio and weight. There are also steam, sauna and jacuzzi. Overall, very nice facilities. Breakfast is great, nice options from Western to Eastern style. Location is OK but you need a car to go around. There is no restaurant in a walking distance. We rented a car and it was a perfect place for us. The only missing point is service. Check-in was slow, some staff was not efficient. Kate helped checking us in and out in the end and she was great. Gym staff were also not attentive. Steam room was not on. Many cardio equipments were left uncleaned.

Very comfortable and well located.
This is a very comfortable hotel, clearly well run, with excellent, large airy room with and large picture windows. The variety of foods for breakfast was impressive, with attentive and friendly staff. The hotel is well located, just 10 minutes walk from the old city with it's multiple temples. The night market is close too, and good restaurants within easy walking distance.

Unbelievable level of care and support
What an amazing place. First the location is great as it is right in the heart of the old city, near the night bazaar and many restaurants. The actual property itself is absolutely beautiful with well kept interiors and lawns, including private books and crannies. The breakfast was great with a lot of selections. The pool is great, especially if you have kids as it has a water slide and whole kids play area in the pool. Basically the place is definitely top tier. The only negative I would have to say is that it is a bit pricey compared to most hotels in Chiang Mai, and also that it's size can make it feel less personal and inviting than other hotels. that being said, one event sealed the deal for us and made a one night stay turn to 4. I lost my camera at an event off-site from, but booked through the hotel. I called them to ask if there was anything they could do (assuming I my camera was a loss). Patt from the hotel staff (who has been incredibly helpful throughout our visit) said she would call the golf course where I lost my camera. less than 40 minutes later she informed me that not only had they found my camera, but the course was going to drop it off at the hotel for me! I had my camera back the next day. I cannot begin to express how amazing the level of support made us feel, and how thankful and impressed I am with the staff at both the Shangri-La and the Gasson Panorama Golf Club. I will be singing their praises for years to come
