One staff person, the night clerk, was reluctant to provide answers to how the elevator worked. The first night we arrived my husband, 74, could not understand how to access the elevator. When he went to the desk, she was very upset that he had peeked his head into the open office door. He apologized and asked how to use the elevator. She refused to step out from behind the desk and explain. He could not understand what to do. Finally, another guest arrived in the lobby and showed us how it worked. The next night the same thing happened to two elderly guests, she wouldn't help them, and we arrived just in time to help show them how to use the elevator. When I returned to the lobby to get hot water for my tea, I noticed the water was lukewarm. The clerk was at the desk, so I mentioned it to her. She responded she was not permitted to replace the water until 10pm (it was 7pm at the time). I am not sure what your directions are to the night staff, but we have found most desk clerks are happy to demonstrate how the hotel equipment works and go out of their way to assist guests.

Disappointing Stay. Room was not clean.
I only stayed only one night. Receptionist was glum. I was disgusted when I arrived and I saw the desk had a very large sticky mess/stain on it that had not been cleaned by housekeeping. I moved the desk lamp and saw a ring of liquid under the lamp so obviously not only was the desktop not wiped down, but the lamp had not been cleaned underneath either. It made me wonder what else hadn’t been cleaned. The hotel room was ok but walls had some scuff marks and chipped away paint so it made the room look rundown. The bathroom shower had a bottle of shampoo and shower gel but NO conditioner. I expected both shampoo AND conditioner and being a girl with long hair I need both for my hair so that was not good. Also, the smoke detector I’m guessing kept blinking at night when the lights were off and that kept us up. Phone was extra dirty so obviously not cleaned. And the nightstand had a HUGE crack entire length of the top adding to the impression the room was rundown and no maintenance. The bed had tiny bed pillows instead of larger ones and the top quilt was white but textured and extra scratchy. All these items made for a night of very little sleep. I had requested extra blankets and pillows when I booked but did not receive either. It was only one night but I can say I probably would not stay at Hampton Inn again if I needed a clean room and a good night’s sleep. Above all I expect my hotel room to be CLEAN upon arrival and it was not.

Staff was very friendly and helpful, both front desk and breakfast buffet. Liked that there was real oatmeal with assorted toppings for breakfast. No lunch/dinner on site; Skyline Chili and Graeters nearby for Cincinnati food experience, along with other possibilities. Since Harrison Ave. is very busy I don't recommend walking to eat. Pool was fine, though a wall clock would be helpful (can't wear a watch swimming). Ask staff how to use EV charging ($15/stay, universal charger), as they have to start it going. No recycling, unfortunately. Good experience overall.
