Old Mills Farm is nestled in the rolling hills of southwest Virginia, halfway between Stuart, Va, and Mount Airy, NC. The farm is close to beautiful downtown Mount Airy, Primland Resort, Philpott Lake, Pilot Mountain State Park, Hanging Rock State Park, the Blue Ridge Parkway, the Dan River, and the historic Earle Theatre. Numerous recreational activities are within a short drive, yet the farm itself is wonderfully secluded. The house sits on 32 acres and is the perfect place for a romantic getaway for two or as a homebase for adventurers who want to explore the surrounding area.
The property has a large, secluded patio for grilling out or sunbathing, an old barn, an old tobacco barn, and two small creeks. There is plenty of room to walk around or watch the wildlife that is abundant in the area. We get lots of deer passing through at sunset, so bring your binoculars!
If you want peace and quiet, this place is it!
You will enter the house through a bright and spacious mud room that has a brand new washer and dryer and a storage bench that holds grilling accessories, charcoal for you to use, and outdoor games for you to enjoy. The wood panelling in the mud room came from an old pack house and is estimated to be 150 years old.
After the mudroom, you will come to a newly renovated and absolutely gorgeous kitchen with stainless steel appliances, new white cabinetry, and custom-made walnut countertops. The kitchen has an apartment-sized range, 2-slice toaster, Keurig coffee maker, dishwasher, refrigerator, and the best sink ever! The kitchen contains vintage Churchill Blue Willow dishware, vintage Revere Ware cookware, stemless wine glasses, corkscrew, cocktail glasses, basic bakeware, utensils, and paper products. You can choose to cook in our well-appointed kitchen, use our spacious patio to grill, or, if it suits you, drive to downtown Stuart, Primland Resort, or Mount Airy to eat out.
From the kitchen, you will move into a separate dining area that is furnished with a vintage Henry Link dining set. The dining room is light, airy, and serene, and features original hardwood flooring and French doors.
From the dining room, you will move into an adorable living room that retains the original hardwood flooring, a non-working fireplace with the original mantel, vintage Henry Link couch, loveseat, and rocking chair, antique and vintage accessories, a Smart TV, and numerous books and games to keep you entertained in case of bad weather. There are two original exterior doors located in the living room: one that leads to the front yard and one that leads to the east porch where you will be greeted by the sunrise each morning ... this is a perfect spot to sip some coffee (or wine) and enjoy your morning!
Next you will come to the master bedroom which has a vintage Henry Link wicker queen size bedroom set with a new, comfortable mattress, non-working fireplace with original mantel, and a Smart TV. Your bed will be freshly made will 100% cotton sheets and four soft pillows, ready for you to snuggle in and enjoy your evening.
Off of the bedroom you will find a spacious master bath with a large, custom-made metal vanity, a tub/shower combo with new faucet and rainfall and handheld showerheads, plenty of towels and toiletries, and a large walk-in closet. The walk-in closet contains a first-aid kit and a power outage kit, just in case.
Outside of the home there is a large, south-facing patio that receives the warmth of the sun year-round. This patio is secluded and the perfect spot to soak up the sun, grill out, or enjoy the fire pit. Charcoal for the grill and wood for your first fire will be provided for you so that all you have to do is sit back and enjoy life. (If you think you will want more than one fire, you may need to bring your own wood.) From the patio you have an excellent view of the surrounding fields and woods which burst forth with deer and other wildlife each evening right before sunset. Sit still and enjoy the view! Patio furniture includes a table and four chairs, two chaise lounges, and two adirondack-style chairs for the firepit.
The 32 acre farm has both open fields and heavily wooded areas, so if you are in the mood for a walk, there's room to take one. Or take a short drive to one of the many parks and recreation areas nearby!
The driveway is long enough for vehicles pulling an RV, boat, or horse trailer. There is also an external RV hookup (electricity and water only, no septic). Please inquire if you need to use the RV hookup as this is not included in the basic rental rate.
Outdoor security cameras in place (more details in the Welcome Guide).
If you have ever wondered what it would be like to downsize and live in 1,000 sf or less, come try it out at our place! Although the house is smaller than average, it has everything you will need.
This is a special place that affords guests relaxing solitude and the beauty of nature. If you are interested in spending a weekend living more simply, getting away from it all, or experiencing the outdoor activities in the area, we would love to be your host!
Once your booking is confirmed, we will ask for a copy of your driver's license to verify your name and age. If we do not receive this, sadly we will have to cancel your booking.
