We were to stay here on a two night visit to Santa Teresa. We arrived at the beginning of the rainy season, so we expected rain. Just as we arrived at the property, a torrential downpour took place. That did not deter us, as we had been in Costa Rica for a week and were accustomed to it. The unit was really bare bones, but we were willing to live with the dirty blankets, the door that barely locked, the haphazard kitchen with only one pot, the sulfer smell coming from the bathroom, etc, because we only planned to stay for 2 nights. We unpacked our things and my husband started cooking chicken noodle soup for my daughter because she wasn't feeling well. Suddenly, the power went out. I looked around the building and saw that the unit we were in, was the only one that lost power. (In addition, the AC power was still on) So, I looked for the breaker, and found it was a little intimidating - dark, covered with cobwebs, wires everywhere, not sure if it was safe to even touch). So I contacted the property manager. She said oh power goes out all the time here... Then I explained that the other units had power... and she sent her repair man. He drove by and saw the lights on - when and reported everything was fine. Well it wasn't fine because we had raw chicken, a sick child, and we found that the toilet would not work because it was on a water pump attached to the electricity. I asked that she send the repair man back, and she said that he would come, but it would be later. After about an hour, we decided there was no way we could stay with no power and no water - so we packed our things and went to one of two properties in the area that had an opening. We ended up throwing all of the food we bought out, because we didn't know if we would have a kitchen. We spent significantly more money and our children were exhausted and hungry. At the time when we left, the property manager told me to cancel the reservation and if she could get it rebooked, she would refund us. But I could not cancel the reservation on VBRO's site, and their customer service said the only way to do it was on her end. She refused to do it, saying she would get in trouble with VBRO and told me to just figure it out. The property manager has thus far 4 months later, continued to refuse to refund our rental fee. We had a wonderful visit to ST - even with this hiccup. Buyer Beware of this property. If you rent it - know what you may be getting yourself into.
